Lynn's hands trembled as she picked up the glass of water she had been offered. Her mind still reeling from the earlier encounter with the pompous jerk of a customer. Who would have thought that because of him, she would be sitting in this restaurant waiting for the manager to return so she could know her fate?
She couldn't believe she had spilt coffee all over him, and then he had the nerve to be so rude! She had been working at the coffee shop for three years, and she had never had a customer complain like that before.
As she dropped the glass of water, Lynn's thoughts drifted to her financial struggles. She was barely making ends meet, and her rent was overdue. She needed this new job and fast. Why was the manager taking so long to return? It was only adding to the anxious state that she was in... Maybe she should have stayed at the coffee shop and begged some more till Mr Thompson forgave her.
But what could she do? She had no skills, no experience, and no connections. Only hope, hope was the only thing she could rely on.
Just then, the manager, Rachel, approached her, and Lynn abruptly stood up, anticipating what her fate would be.
"Lynn, is that right?"
"Yes ma'am," Lynn responded, her hand holding the helm of her shirt till her knuckles became white.
"We are a bit short on workers now, and you walked in just at the right time. If you just fill this out, you can start tomorrow, " Rachel said and handed a document document to Lynn.
Lynn's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
Rachel nodded. "Yes. Welcome aboard, Lynn."
Lynn's heart skipped a beat. could this be the answer to her prayers? She would finally be able to pay her rent on time if she calculated her wages right. She took the documents from Rachel and gasped when she saw how much she would earn. it more than she earned at the coffee shop. "Thank you so much ma'am...thank you so much..." Lynn said, feeling beyond grateful for the opportunity. Even though she still had a lot of debts, at least she still would have a place to sleep.
Rachel smiled. "You have a great attitude. Plus, I think you'd be perfect for the job."
Lynn felt a surge of excitement. Rachel, who she had just met, must be God sent. she was very nice and Lynn couldn't be more glad
"I'd love to do it!" Lynn exclaimed, unable to hold in her excitement.
Rachel smiled. "Great! I'll train you over the next few days. And, Lynn?"
"Yes?"
"Try to stay out of trouble, okay?"
Lynn nodded, feeling a sense of hope she hadn't felt in weeks.
As she left work at that restaurant, Lynn felt a sense of determination. She would make the most of this new opportunity, no matter what challenges lay ahead. She would prove to herself. Maybe if she worked hard enough, she could get a promotion and raise them she would start to pay her debts little by little. She just hoped dearly she didn't encounter any more customers like early that day. That would mean she had a streak

Lynn walked home after her last shift on edge, and her senses heightened. She stopped in her tracks and turned to look behind her only to be met with an empty alley. She took in a sharp intake of breath and continued walking, her heart hammering in her chest.
She had been feeling uneasy all day as if someone was watching her and now it felt like someone was following her. It didn't help that she had no cash to take a taxi or ride a bus...
As she turned onto her street, she noticed a figure standing under the streetlight. Tall, imposing, and shrouded in shadows. Her heart almost leapt out of her chest when the figure started to move. She was going to get mugged! Today was her unlucky day!
Lynn's heart quickened as the figure stepped forward out of the shadows, revealing a gaunt face with sunken eyes. He smiled, but it was more of a grimace. She could feel the hair at the back of her neck rise in fear.
"You're Lynn," he stated, his voice low and gravelly.
Lynn nodded warily, and the grip she had on her bag tightened. "Who are you?" she said in a Shaky voice. She could hear her heart drumming in her ears.
The stranger chuckled, a dry, mirthless sound which added to her fear. "Someone who knows your secrets."
Lynn's instincts screamed at her to run, but her legs felt rooted to the spot. She understood why most people in movies couldn't run when they were in danger. What she was experiencing was a paralysing fear.
The stranger took a step closer, his eyes glinting with an unsettling intensity. "You're connected to him, Lynn. More than you think."
Lynn's mind reeled as the stranger turned and walked away. leaving her shaken and confused.
Who was that? And what did he mean by "connected to him"?, Her face was etched with total confusion and fear. She started on her heels and left the alley in case he came back.
As she rushed into her apartment, Lynn couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was spiralling out of control. Who the hell was that creep?...
