AWakening
The sun had barely risen over the college campus, casting a warm glow over the bustling quad. Students hurried to their morning classes, chatting with friends or sipping coffee. Ethan Wright, a 20-year-old junior, walked among them, lost in thought.
As he navigated through the crowd, Ethan's mind wandered to his strange visions. They had started a few weeks ago, vivid dreams that felt more real than his waking life. He saw himself standing amidst flames, feeling an intense heat coursing through his veins. The images haunted him, leaving him restless and unsettled.
Ethan's gaze drifted to the art studio, where Emily often spent her mornings. He hadn't mustered the courage to approach her yet, but he couldn't deny the connection he felt. Her paintings seemed to capture the essence of his visions, as if she understood the turmoil brewing within him.
With a deep breath, Ethan pushed open the studio door. The scent of oil paints and turpentine enveloped him, transporting him to a world of creativity. Emily stood at her easel, lost in her art. Her dark hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and her eyes sparkled with inspiration.
"Ethan," she said, sensing his presence. "What brings you here?"
Ethan hesitated, unsure how to reveal his true intentions. "Just admiring your work," he said, gesturing to her latest piece.
Emily's painting depicted a phoenix rising from the ashes, its wings spread wide. Ethan felt a shiver run down his spine; the image resonated deeply.
"You see something in it, don't you?" Emily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan's eyes locked onto hers. "I feel it," he replied, his voice filled with conviction. "Like it's calling to me."
Emily's expression softened. "I think it is," she said, her words dripping with mystery.
As they stood there, the air thickened with tension. Ethan sensed Emily knew more about his visions than she let on.
Suddenly, a loud explosion shattered the tranquility. Flames erupted from a nearby trash can, spreading rapidly. Panic set in as students scrambled to escape.
Ethan's heart pounded. His visions had become reality.
"Emily, get back!" Ethan shouted, pulling her away from the inferno.
But Emily didn't flinch. Instead, she raised her hands, and a gentle breeze extinguished the flames.
Ethan stared at her, awestruck. "How did you...?"
Emily's eyes locked onto his. "You're not the only one with secrets, Ethan Wright."
And with that, she turned and vanished into the chaos.
Ethan stood frozen, his mind reeling. What did Emily mean? What secrets did she hide?
As the flames died down, Ethan realized his life would never be the same.
