The air in the narrow corridor was stifling, every breath laced with the damp scent of mildew. Mia stared at the solid wall in front of them, her heart pounding in her ears. Trapped. The word echoed in her mind, each repetition growing louder.
Caleb cursed under his breath, his gaze darting around the enclosed space. "There has to be a way out," he muttered, his fingers tracing the edges of the wall as if searching for a hidden mechanism.
"There isn't," the masked intruder said with a low chuckle. "That's the beauty of it. They always lead you to a dead end."
"Shut up," Zoe snapped, her knife gleaming under the dim light as she stepped closer. "Unless you want me to make sure you don't need to talk again."
The intruder raised their hands in mock surrender, their smirk hidden behind the mask.
Mia's pulse quickened as the sound of the drone grew louder. It was close now, its mechanical hum a chilling reminder that time was running out.
