Chapter 9 - GRATEFUL

Present Time.

"My Lord. The members of the kitchen staff are agitated and I am even more agitated than they are.

Please you have to let them make the meal. They feel like they will be fired" Falkur said as he followed Lord Kamaz.

Kamaz had told him to get the kitchen staff away from the kitchen as he needed to make pasta for Zeda. She requested pasta after he had insisted on having her eat and pasta she will have. But he couldn't trust anyone…not even those that have worked with him for close to ten years.

He removed his coat and placed it on Falkur's demonstrative outstretched hands before he folded the sleeves of his shirt to make prominent his long and slender fingers accompanied by lightning veins.

Next he took one of the neatly folded cream coloured aprons and wore it over his black shirt and black pair of trousers.

It was a contrast to his attire but that was not his concern at the moment.

Another colour apart from black on him looked weird because for over five centuries, the only colours of apparel that his skin had welcomed were dark clothings.

"You trust every staff member that cooks for you or you would have fired them long ago.

My Lord, why don't you allow them to cook for her? They are considered one of the best in the nation!" Falkur pressed.

There was no way he was going to let his Lord cook. Especially when the person is just a girl that was probably in her early twenties.

"I do not care if they are the best Falkur.

I want to personally select and examine every ingredient that will be needed for this meal. Only the finest of the fine quality will be served to her and I do not trust any other soul other than myself to have eyes that will be keen enough to pick them.

I will prepare the meal and serve her." Lord Kamaz said firmly.

" Do you mean to serve her yourself my Lord?" Falkur asked. The socket of his eyes as round as saucers.

"Of course I do" Kamaz replied without missing a breath as he tied the apron behind him

Falkur's voice lowered. "I do not mean to ask you a question now My Lord. But is she…is she The One?" He asked.

After a heartbeat, Lord Kamaz turned around to face him.

"Yes she is."

Falkur left the kitchen and sent to their quarters, the worked up kitchen staff that were lined against the wall outside the kitchen entrance.

"No one is getting fired and you did nothing wrong.

You may go to your rooms. Now!" He commanded and the lot of them scampered off.

As he stood outside waiting for Lord Kamaz to finish preparing the meal, his mind reeled back to how they had rescued those children.

'The Shadow' as he is known returned one hour after the Miss had fallen asleep again with a file that contained everything relating to her.

They had been able to deduce the current circumstance she was in that she looked so terrified about.

Apparently she had lived by the grace of some men that had sponsored her all her life and it was known that these men were seeking for her to pay them back everything they had spent on her.

It was just how their shi**y organization worked.

Men that have more money than they know what to do with. Vile and evil inventions become their creativity!

Aaron, The Shadow and Korah had been sent to the site where the children were being held captive.

The exact location of the men -those who had ordered for the kidnap of the children - have still not been found but the men who were present and had killed three of the children, were carried away in a van.

Their deaths will be too gory for Death itself.

One hour and fifteen minutes later,

The meal was ready and Lord Kamaz placed it on a plate.

Falkur allowed himself into the kitchen.

"This is where I must stop you My Lord. I'll take it to her myself with you before me. I cannot have you pushing a cart of food around the mansion My Lord" Falkur said, worried lines deepening on his face.

After a moment of thought, Kamaz agreed.

***************

As Falkur lifted the lid covering the pasta, the mouth watering aroma swiftly wafted the air and into Zeda's nostrils.

She couldn't help but inhale it and her stomach grumbled its disapproval of not having the meal inside of it already.

The loud sound from her belly caused a slight expression to show on Kamaz' face, different from the straight face Zeda has seen his face possess.

While Falkur stifled a smile.

Zeda's face flushed in embarrassment, the tip of her ears reddening.

"You should eat up now and rest," Lord Kamaz urged.

"Alright Sir" Zeda said.

Zeda was waiting for Falkur and Lord Kamaz to get going but the both of them kept on standing like they had no plans of leaving the room.

Falkur could not leave until Lord Kamaz had ordered him to or until Lord Kamaz left while Lord Kamaz was waiting to know if the food was to her liking.

"Uhmm…I'll like to eat now Sir" She said.

"Yes carry on" Lord Kamaz said, oblivious of the inference to her words.

Falkur got the hint but knowing how dense Lord Kamaz could be in matters such as this one, he walked over to him.

"Lord Kamaz, the young Miss will not feel comfortable eating with us standing before her." Falkur said in a whispered tone.

"Then I will sit while you may take your leave," Kamaz suggested in a small voice.

"No my Lord.

She would be more comfortable being alone for now. She would not like anyone else to be here" Falkur finally pointed out clearly.

"You mean she would not want to see me. Like she would want me away?" Lord Kamaz asked, sneaking a peek at Zeda who was yet to move on the bed.

She had still not reached out to the food.

Falkur was dumbfounded. It was t as deep as Lord Kamaz was making it sound.

"She is still very cautious about her environment and despite how good you have been to her, it is normal for humans to act that way when something new is introduced in their lives." Falkur explained.

Kamaz wasn't happy that he would have to leave her side now but if that is what she wants, he knew he had no choice but to leave.

"We'll take our leave now." Lord Kamaz said.

As he turned to go, Zeda said in a soft voice. "Thank you Sir" She said gratefully.
