I turned around and made my way outside hotel. I stood beside my car and my hands were all sweaty. I was a little angry but I tried to control myself. I didn't want my anger to get the better of me. What the heck was Henry doing? I had never seen so much love in his eyes. Even when we dated, he never looked at me with such passion.
I picked my phone from my navy blue trousers and went to my contacts. My hands were trembling and sweaty, I pressed the search button on the large screen. I searched for Darien and clicked on it. I tightened my eyes and placed it on my ears.
The call was still forwarding and my legs were shaking. I was just waiting patiently for him to answer but he didn't.
"Darn!" I was about to cut when he picked.
I widened my eyes and placed them in my ears. "Hello!" I sounded very happy.
"What?!" His dry tone was as expected.
"Hmmm...I need a favor." I furrowed my brows and was still shaking my legs.
He sighed. "What?" His voice still sounded the same.
"Could you please help me do a background check on someone?" I squeezed my brows and let out a sigh.
"Not again Piper." He continued sighing and he sounded frustrated. "Don't you know you are making me misuse my job position."
"One last time Darien." I pulled my brows together and pleaded with passion.
"Who?" He reluctantly said.
"Thank you, thank you." I felt so relieved. "I'll send it via WhatsApp, please also find where she is currently working."
He cut the call without saying a word. I looked at my phone and eyed it like I was seeing him. It was going to take him hours.
------
It was already early in the morning and I hadn't seen it yet. I had not even received a call from him. I went to my WhatsApp and I checked it but he still had not replied.
I rolled my eyes and was still waiting impatiently. I closed my eyes for a while and when I opened it, he had sent it already. The smile on my face could tear my face. I clicked on it and what I saw completely shocked me.
SUSAN
I looked at the dressing mirror and analysed myself. I wore a casual white flare gown. I left my hair down and did simple makeup. My gaze went to my lips, my cheek became red. The kiss was amazingly breathtaking.
Had we started dating? I mean, what happens after a kiss? I covered my face and had a huge smile. I couldn't believe I had a boyfriend. That word just seemed weird to say. I had been a workaholic all my life, when most people had office relationships, I normally cringe. It just sounded nonhuman.
I received a phone call, snapping me from my thoughts. I walked to my bed where I had placed it. It was an unknown number. I picked it nonetheless.
"Hello."
"Good day ma'am." Her voice was very tiny, indicating she was a female.
"Yes?" I raised a brow.
"Sorry for disturbing you but this is the hotel receptionist talking." She spoke politely and continued. "A woman is asking of you "
"Me?" I pointed to myself like she was there.
"Her name is Piper. She says you are close."
Piper? Why would she be looking for me? "Send her in." I commanded.
"Okay ma'am." She cut the call.
I dropped my phone on the bed. I furrowed my brows in confusion. Why the heck was she looking for it? I just sat on my bed and waited for her patiently.
After a while, I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in." I flatly said.
The person opened the door and I saw Piper. She packed her brown hair in a ponytail, wearing a navy blue jumpsuit with black high heels .
"You must have been fluttering, right?" She gave a smile, still standing at the door.
"I guess?" I raised a brow at her.
She walked slowly and eyes were scrolling through my room. "Do you know the relationship Henry and I had?" Her voice seemed sly.
I wandered my eyes around, making sure I wasn't the only one in the room.
She chuckled a little, making out eyes to meet. I was feeling somehow now. I couldn't guess her intention and for some reason I wanted to know their relationship.
"We are dating." She gave a sly smile.
'are'. I squeezed my face in annoyance. I hoped I heard her wrong. She as stating to get on my nerves.
"It's going to be hard to believe, but," she paused and she gave a serious look. "We dated for four years without breaking up but we just got distant."
"What are you saying?" I rolled my eyes and I could feel my blood boiling.
"You can ask him if you don't believe me." She looked at me confidently. "There are a lot of things you don't know about, Susy. I can't lie, we don't act like a couple." She sighed, "but, we are. We got distant for a very long time and we haven't had the time to come back strong."
"Stop talking bullshit Piper." I glared at her.
"I'm serious!" She blurted, giving a serious face. "These days or I mean, since you came, he has been acting really strange. He looks at you differently. I have known him for a while now and I see passion in his eyes."
"I think you should leave." I faked a smile, directing my eyes towards the door.
"I will but keep this in mind, there seems to be something you really don't know." She gave a steaif
