Valtor's eyes widened in shock. Niel had arrived far sooner than anticipated.
Before Valtor could gather his thoughts, Niel burst forth with raw speed, crashing into him. The force sent Valtor flying across the hall.
Valtor's back slammed into a wall, cracking it. Amidst the chaos, he ensured Alawis remained in his grasp.
Niel knelt beside Alawis, supporting her battered body. Her eyes flickered open.
"I knew you'd come," Alawis whispered.
Niel's gaze filled with anguish. His voice cracked. "I'm sorry I didn't come sooner."
Alawis shook her head weakly. "You're right on time."
A faint smile crossed her lips before she lost consciousness.
Niel hugged her tightly. Desperation fueled his actions.
He attempted to summon Thrakos, but there was no response. Next, he called for Khaos.
Khaos appeared, bloodied and battered. He bowed. "I'm sorry, Lord. I failed you."
Niel didn't spare Khaos a glance. "Take her somewhere safe."
Khaos nodded and gently took Alawis from Niel.
As Khaos lifted her, Alawis murmured, "It's not your fault. Don't blame yourself."
Niel's heart felt like it was being squeezed. He repeated, his voice trembling, "I'm sorry."
He kissed Alawis's forehead. Khaos vanished with her.
Niel's gaze turned to Valtor, who struggled to stand.
Valtor's eyes locked onto Niel's. Hatred and anger mingled within.
"You shouldn't have come here," Valtor snarled.
Niel's response was icy. "You shouldn't have touched her."
The air thickened with tension.
