Chapter 2 - Put in a good word for me Mr Beckett

Claire excused herself to go meet the doctor, She approached the reception desk and asked to speak to the doctor.

"Can I help you?" the receptionist asked looking at Claire.

"I'm here to see Mrs Ryder's doctor " Claire said.

The receptionist looked at Claire again scanning her worth.

"Oh, okay. Let me check with the doctor"

A few minutes later, the doctor was informed about Claire and he asked that she should be sent in.

''Ma'am..!, you can go in now but , I need to note down your name ", the receptionist told her.

"Claire Beckett" , Claire muttered walking towards the doctor's office.

Claire walked into the doctor's office, determined to help Charlotte and her mother. She was greeted by the doctor with a warm smile.

"Hello, Miss Claire. How many I help you," the doctor said, gesturing for Claire to take a seat.

"Eemmm, I would like to get Mrs Grace transferred to the Beckett's hospital", Claire responded .

"Wait , what ? , the Beckett's hospital , it will be impossible to do that"., the doctor muttered with a hint of sarcasm.

"Of course, Doctor. It's more than possible, I'm a Beckett" Claire replied, sitting down in the chair opposite the doctor's desk.

The doctor checked his laptop , and it was clearly written as Claire Beckett,

He quickly pulled out a file from his desk drawer. "I will have the transfer papers for Mrs. Grace's move to Beckett's Hospital ready in a jiffy".

"And please forgive my manners, I never knew you were a Beckett, what would you like to have "Tea or coffee" , the doctor apologized already in his feet.

"Never mind", Claire smiled, feeling a sense of entitlement to her name .

The doctor excused himself and returned in a few minutes.

"Is everything ready", Claire asked turning her head immediately she heard the door open.

The doctor nodded, handing Claire the file. "I've included all the necessary paperwork in here. Once you've signed and returned it, we can begin the transfer process."

Claire took the file, scanning the contents quickly. She nodded, satisfied that everything was in order.

"What of the total bill she accumulated since her stay here ?", Claire asked

The doctor smiled. "That's very kind of you, Claire. The total amount is $10,000."

Claire didn't hesitate. She pulled out her checkbook and wrote a check for the full amount.

"Here you go," she said, handing the cheque to the doctor.

The doctor took the cheque and smiled. "Thank you, Miss Beckett.

"Is there anything else I need to do?" she asked the doctor.

The doctor shook his head. "No, that's everything. I'll take care of the rest. We'll get Mrs. Grace transferred to Beckett's Hospital as soon as possible."

Claire stood up, smiling. "Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate your help in this matter."

The doctor smiled back. "It's my pleasure, Claire. We'll do everything we can to help Mrs. Grace recover."

"Please do put in a good word for me to Mr Beckett".

As Claire left the doctor's office, she felt a sense of hope. She knew that Mrs. Grace will be in good hands at her father's hospital, and that Charlotte would be relieved off the surgery fee.

Claire made her way back to her Mrs Grace's ward, Avery & Andrew looked up at her, a hint of curiosity in their eyes.

"Claire, dear, how did it go?" Andrew asked, his voice hopeful.

Claire sat down beside Mrs Grace, taking her hand in hers.

"It's all taken care of, Andrew . I've arranged for her to be transferred to Beckett's Hospital, and I've paid off the surgery fee."

Andrew's eyes widened in surprise,

"Oh, Claire, thank you. Thank you so much, Charlotte would be so excited to hear this"

Claire smiled, feeling a sense of warmth in her heart. "It's okay, Andrew she will be in good hands at Beckett's Hospital, and Charlotte will be relieved to know that she is receiving the best care possible."

Mrs. Grace smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "Thank you, Claire. You're a true friend to Charlotte."

Claire squeezed her hand. "We're not just friends, Mrs. Grace. We're family. And we take care of each other."

Charlotte pushed open the door to her mother's hospital room, expecting to see her mother lying in bed, surrounded by the usual beeping machines and sterile hospital decor. But instead, she was met with a scene that made her heart skip a beat.

There, sitting around her mother's bed, were Claire, Avery, and Andrew. They were all smiling and chatting, and her mother looked more relaxed than she had in days.

Charlotte's eyes widened in shock as she took in the scene. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Andrew stood up and turned to her, a warm smile on his face. "Hey, Buttercups! We were just discussing the plans for Aunt Grace's transfer to Beckett's Hospital."

Charlotte's eyes darted to her mother, who was smiling at her, tears shining in her eyes. "Transfer? What's happening?"

Avery stood up and walked over to her. "Claire arranged everything, Charlotte. Your mom is going to get the best care possible."

Charlotte felt like she had been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "But...but how? I don't understand."

Andrew put a hand on her shoulder. "Claire took care of everything. She's going to make sure Aunt Grace gets the best treatment available."

Charlotte looked at Claire, who was still smiling at her. She felt a wave of emotion wash over her - gratitude, relief, love.

"Claire...thank you," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.

Claire opened her arms and Charlotte fell into them, tears streaming down her face.

"We're family, Charlotte," Claire whispered back. "We take care of each other."

Ethan sat in his class, trying to focus on the lecture, but his mind kept wandering to the hospital .

He wanted to know how they were doing, But every time he thought about calling Avery or Claire to ask, his ego got in the way.

"What if Avery ask me why I'm concerned?" he thought to himself. "What if she announces it to everyone that I called to check up on Charlotte ?".

Ethan shifted uncomfortably in his seat, feeling restless. He checked his watch for what felt like the hundredth time, willing the hands to move faster.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. Ethan jumped up from his seat, grabbing his backpack and shoving his books inside.

"Perfect," he thought to himself. "Now I have the perfect excuse to call Avery."

He pulled out his phone and dialed Avery's number, trying to sound casual when she answered.

"Hey, Sister Avery. What's up? I just got out of class, it's already school over and I was wondering where you might be."

Avery's voice was warm and friendly on the other end of the line.

"Hey, Ethan I'm good. We visited Charlotte's Mom at the hospital".

"Claire arranged for Mrs. Grace to be transferred to Beckett's Hospital, and she's going to get the best care possible."

Ethan felt a surge of relief wash over him. "That's great , send me the address and i will come pick you up", Ethan blurted out not wanting to be direct.

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Ethan wondered if Avery was still there.

"Don't worry brother, Claire is with me we will be back soon ,just go home without me " Avery said finally. "Thanks for calling Bye Ethan ."

Ethan smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. Maybe his ego had been standing in the way, but at least he had finally made the call.

"Okay, Avery!! no problem," he said, trying to sound casual. "I'll just go home alone then."

"Yeah, okay. Take care, Avery."

As he hung up the phone, "it seems like everything is under control." He muttered to himself

He shrugged and slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed to his car.

After a few minutes the luxurious Beckett's hospital ambulance pulled up in front of the hospital, its sirens off but its lights flashing.

The hospital staff quickly mobilized, bringing out a stretcher to transfer Aunt Grace to the ambulance.

Charlotte watched anxiously as her mother was carefully lifted onto the stretcher and wheeled out of the hospital.

She felt a sense of relief wash over her as she saw the state-of-the-art ambulance, knowing that her mother was in good hands.

As the hospital staff transferred Aunt Grace to the ambulance, Charlotte turned to Claire. "Thank you again, Claire. I owe you one."

Claire smiled and hugged Charlotte. "You don't have to thank me, Charlotte. We're family. We take care of each other.

Charlotte nodded, feeling grateful for Claire's kindness. She joined her mother in the ambulance, holding her hand as the paramedics hooked her up to monitors and IVs.

As the ambulance doors closed, Claire, Avery, and Andrew waved goodbye. "We'll see you soon, Charlotte," Claire called out.

Mr. John, Claire's driver, pulled up in the sleek black Bentley car, the remaining three hopped in and he drove off.

Andrew alighted off at the bus stop, Mr. John drove Claire and Avery to the Landon's house. The two girls chatted excitedly in the backseat, discussing their plans for the weekend.

When they arrived at the Landon's house, Claire and Avery got down with a smile. "Thank you Mr John." They echoed in unison walking into the house .

They girls filled Ethan in on the details of Mrs Ryder's transfer to Beckett's hospital, they three chatted for a while longer before Claire left for her house .

Meanwhile as Mrs Grace was be admitted into the Beckett's hospital on special request from the sole heir of the hospital "Claire Beckett"

Mr. Beckett's phone rang, breaking the silence in his office. He picked it up, answering with a crisp "Go on."

"Sir, I'm calling to inform you that we've received a request from your daughter, Claire, to admit a patient to our hospital. The patient's name is Mrs. Grace, and Claire has requested that we provide her with the best care possible."

Mr. Beckett's expression turned thoughtful. "Ah, Claire did that ?".

"Yes, sir," the informant replied. "Claire was very insistent that we admit Mrs. Grace to our hospital, and I must say, she was quite persuasive. We've arranged for Mrs. Grace to be admitted to our hospital immediately."

" Provide the best doctor and keep me updated on her condition."Mr Beckett ordered hanging up the phone.

He leaned back in his chair, feeling grateful that Claire has decided to give the Beckett's hospital another chance since her mother died there.

As Claire arrived at her house, she was greeted by her father, who was sitting in the living room going through a file.

"Hey Clara, how was your day?" he asked, putting down the file.

Claire smiled realizing it was her since he's the only one that addresses her by Clara,

"It was good, Dad. You're home ?"

Her father nodded, smiling. " Yes, Clara. I have a business deal within the country, so I cut short my tour at Hong Kong ?"

Claire who was feeling happy that her father was home was dumbstruck that a business deal was his reason for coming back, her happy face immediately crumpled up .

"Okay then , Dad. I will just head to my room."

Her father nodded ,his gaze fixed in the files again.

"Okay then, good night", he muttered without sparing her a glance .

Claire trudged up the stairs, feeling a mix of emotions. She was happy that her father was home, but she couldn't help feeling disappointed that he hadn't come back because he missed her or wanted to spend time with her. It seemed like his business was always his top priority.

As she entered her room, Claire flopped down on her bed, feeling a bit deflated.

"Nanny does he always has to be so clueless", Claire asked immediately she felt Nanny Carezza's had caressing her hair.

"You must be exhausted, just go to sleep Love'', Nanny Carezza diverted from the question.

Claire smiled, feeling happy that atleast her Nanny understands her "

She drifted off to sleep, feeling grateful for Nanny Carezza's presence in her life.

Meanwhile, Mr. Beckett was still in the living room, going through his files with his secretary.

He couldn't help but think about his daughter and how she was growing up to be a compassionate and kind person.

He felt proud of her, but he didn't know how to show it. He was always busy with work, and he didn't want to compromise his business dealings. But he knew he had to find a way to connect with Claire, before it was too late.

The next day, Claire woke up with a start, feeling a sense of urgency.

She threw off her covers and rushed out of her room, wearing her favorite pair of fluffy unicorn pyjamas. Her hair was tangled and messy, and her eyes were still half-asleep.

She ran down the hallway to her father's room, hoping to catch him before he left for work. But when she burst through the door, she was greeted by an empty room. The bed was made, and there was no sign of her father.

Claire's face fell, and she felt a pang of disappointment. She had been looking forward to talking to her father all morning.

Just then, Nanny Carezza appeared in the doorway, a warm smile on her face. "Good morning, Claire! I see you're looking for Mr Beckett."

" Good morning Nanny,"

Claire nodded, feeling a bit deflated. "Yeah, I wanted to talk to him. Where did he go?"

Nanny Carezza's expression turned sympathetic. "He had an early business meeting, sweetie. He left a few hours ago."

Claire sighed and trudged back to her room, feeling a bit grumpy. She flopped down on her bed and checked her phone, hoping to see a message from her father.

And then she saw it - a brief text message that read: "Hey Clara, gone for the day. Won't be back until tonight. Love you."

Claire's face scrunched up in frustration. She hated it when her father did this - just leaving without even saying goodbye. She felt like he was always putting business first, and she was starting to feel like she didn't matter.
