"So this is why you shut yourself away in here," Anna said, her voice laced with bitterness. She had not meant for it to sound that way. The last thing she wanted was for him to see how deeply she was hurt.
"Lady Anna, I do not see how it concerns you if I decide to hide in my room or not," William replied harshly not caring if he hurt her. She had hurt him badly that fateful night—the night he had seen her in the arms of another man.
"You say it is not my concern if you decide to hide in here or not, but it is my business to keep you safe.. to protect you and you take it for granted."
"I do not need your protection in my chambers," William replied, silencing the girl at his side with a gesture as she began to speak. Her opinion was unnecessary—this was a matter strictly between him and Anna.
