VINCENZO'S POV
"What the hell is going on out there?"
Salvatore's voice was sharp as another round of gunfire exploded outside. What exactly was happening outside? I had no time to waste thinking about it.
I moved toward the door, intent on going out.
Master LaRosa lunged.
Everything happened in a blur—his shoulder slammed into Salvatore, taking him down hard. The sound of their bodies hitting the floor was muffled only by Salvatore's curse as the old man wrenched the gun from his grasp.
Before I could react, LaRosa spun, lifting the weapon to me before he fired and for a split second, I was certain that he had aimed at me but then the bullet tore through the wooden door just as my hand reached for the handle.
I froze.
LaRosa kept the gun raised, his breathing heavy, his eyes burning with a fury I hadn't seen in years. "Don't be an idiot, Vincenzo," he growled. "You walk out that door, and you're dead."
