VINCENZO'S POV
"Fuck!" I cursed surveying the carnage in front of me.
The floor was littered with bodies, the walls splattered with blood. The bodies of those I had given shelter and sworn to protect.
This place was a safe haven for people I had saved so how did this happen?
This was bad for my ranks, it would lead to problems.
I ran a hand through my hair angrily, sighing heavily as I did so. "Hasten up, Castillo!" I barked at the man who was sitting in the corner, a laptop on his lap while he furiously tapped buttons on it.
"On it, boss" He called out.
Henry stepped beside me and whistled. "Damn… they really let loose"
"How many?" I asked.
"We had 18 People here and we're looking for the other bodies. We've got 12" Henry reported as we both watched the men check around the bodies, pulling them to a heap at a corner.
"Natasha and Samantha?" My mind went back to the girls I had brought here just a few days back.
"Samantha is dead" He informed, nodding towards the pile of dead bodies. "We haven't found Natasha yet"
I took a heavy sigh and struggled to calm myself down.
"So what now boss?" Henry inquired, looking back at me.
I shot him a venomous glance. "What happens now is that we find whoever did this and make them pay!" I hissed angrily.
"There's not much leads" Henry noted.
"Well, we'll find something, anything" I was livid, angry, confused, and most of all, I felt regret. This shouldn't have happened to the people who were under my care, goddamn it, it made me feel weak, I couldn't protect them.
"Boss" I heard Castillo's voice and I walked up to him.
"Find anything?" I asked almost immediately itching to know what was happening.
He turned the laptop to show me an empty feed. "Wiped clean" He muttered.
I felt a fresh wave of anger again. Not that too.
"Well do something about it!" I yelled at him.
"Sir, there's nothing much I cㅡ" He opened his mouth to say when I grabbed his collar tightly, feeling his pulse throb under my fingers.
"Don't test me, Castillo. Don't" I growled, pushing him back roughly.
He quickly bowed and continued his work.
"Take the bodies out and bury them" I ordered, my voice loud and clear.
My men immediately went into action, they started hurling the bodies out to a truck that would go to the nearest field to be buried but I would have to find a way to break the news to the people who were under me.
If they wanted to leave after, they were free to go after all, I couldn't protect their loved ones.
Henry was right beside me as always. "If the feeds have been wiped, doesn't that mean we may have to get the others out of the other havens before something like this happens again?"
"And go where? No, I'll tighten the security there. If my father did find out about this…" I stopped refusing to think much about it.
"I did say it was best to not involve the Cavalieri" Henry shrugged.
For a moment, I didn't bother to answer him, I just stared blankly into space. "Is there anyone still in custody?" I suddenly asked.
I just needed a way to vent out the anger in me and maybe getting someone to play with tonight wasn't such a bad idea, I desperately needed to draw blood from someone.
"Yes, a few" He confirmed. "Do you want me to get one in the room?" He asked.
I thought about it for a split second and sighed. "Don't bother. Call the Garots and tell them to be at the hall in the mansion." I took one last look at the room which was once spotless and I sighed.
Fucking hell.
I drove back to the mansion, my anger still simmering. As I stepped out of the car, I could feel the weight of my responsibility bearing down on me. How could this have happened?
I stormed into the mansion, my presence commanding attention. My men snapped to attention, but I barely acknowledged them.
"Where are they?" I barked.
One of the guards replied, "They're waiting for you in the hall, sir."
I nodded curtly and made my way to the hall.
As I entered, I saw the gathered faces of the Garots, one of the best troops I had and the families of people I had sworn to protect. I didn't bother with pleasantries.
"Sit down," I ordered, my voice cold.
They obeyed, their eyes filled with concern. Surely they must have gotten a whiff of what was happening.
"I'm sure you're all aware of what happened at Gamma Haven," I began, my tone detached. "We were breached. Twelve bodies have been found so far."
Gasps and whispers filled the room, but I continued, unmoved.
"The contract between us has been breached. Your safety, which I guaranteed, has been compromised. You're free to leave, effective immediately."
Fear etched on their faces, but I didn't soften.
"However, if you choose to stay, we'll tighten security and prepare for retaliation. We'll find those responsible and make them pay."
A few nodded, resolve in their eyes, while others looked uncertain.
"I won't sugarcoat it," I added. "Staying means putting yourself at risk for no reason but finding out who killed your loved ones. Leaving means abandoning the protection and resources I provide."
A murmur of discussion broke out among the group. Two opted to leave, but to my surprise, most decided to stay.
I nodded, a small, cold smile on my lips.
"Very well. We'll regroup and strategize. Henry will coordinate the new security measures."
I could see the unshed tears in their eyes, the weakness in their movements at the news but all I could feel was anger. Anger that someone was threatening my power. Anger that someone had crossed their boundaries and it affected me.
I walked out of the hall and went straight to the main mansion where I knew Adriana was.
Right now, I needed to steam off and she was the perfect distraction I needed.
