Chereads / To Bring Down The Skies Above / Chapter 2 - Brutal Escape (1)

Chapter 2 - Brutal Escape (1)

"Ugh"

Feeling groggy he pulls himself up from bed sitting up, still fatigued from last night.

He knew he shouldn't have hit the man but he wouldn't stop, Ivor had only just wanted to drink himself into the night again and leave all his expenses to the bill.

But how was he meant to enjoy any of that with the constant cheers from the group beside him and the constant bickering from the bartender. So why not just settle it like any man should, why with their hands of course.

Blurry… Still couldn't see that we'll and damn the hangover does not help at all, and why's it so noisy. Bringing his hands to his eyes, he worked at them to rub his fatigue away.

Everything seemed to be a daze, nothing a quick swig of beer couldn't fix, he reached into his back pocket trying to find his favourite flask. He patted around and frowned upon not finding it, that had taken it from him.

"Oy, Sucram!"

His voice between an angry yell and a jolly call to a friend. Upon hearing no response from the skinny man he shook his head, he always found it would always somewhat alleviate the aftermath of drinking till unconsciousness, and maybe the noises would just finally stop.

He walked to the elf seeing his pale knuckles gripping the bars eagerly, moving his head to see better? Ivor couldn't understand what he could be so excited about, it's a god's damn prison with barely anyone in it!

"Now what's got yer so excited."

Ivor's hand rested on his shoulder and Sucram turns to him.

"Look! Look! Just stay quiet for now aye."

Ivor seemed serious for the first time, or maybe that's just the booze still getting through him.

"Ah that's what the noise was…"

Just ahead of him the dragonborn seemed to be hunched over the girl, he knew that those soldiers sealed her fate by putting her with that beast.

Looking to the left he saw one of the guards rushing to them and Ivor could only chuckle.

"Those arseholes actually do care!"

The guard quickly fumbles with the keys before unlocking the door, throwing it open as he steps into the cell but before he can do anything Eldes rapidly turns around revealing Marcelline on the floor as she lunges at the man's feet.

She grabs his foot as in the mere second it happens the dragonborn puffs out smoke as he runs into him, their difference in weight sending the guard out the cell into the bars of the next.

Within the next moment, from what he could see a pair of arms appeared behind him as they grasped his head pushing it forwards then slamming it back into the bars before they turned their head snapping his neck in the process.

Eldes who seemed to not hear this rushed out and grabbed the corpse by the waist before body slamming it. His scaly hand was raised above the man's head but it stayed there, his authoritative voice ringing out instead.

"He's already dead?"

Smoke exits his nostrils as he exhales deeply standing upright now as he turns towards where the mysterious hands appeared from.

"You sure are a slow thinker, all that smoke must've clouded your head huh?"

Alice remarks with a smirk. Well Sucram couldn't see her, but from her tone he was sure she was a bitch.

Sucram watched Marceline open Alice's cell but didn't open his.

"Hey! Aren't you guys gonna open mine!"

He yells at the group pressing his faces between the bars looking at them desperately.

Marceline looks at him, her hand scrunching in annoyance, she flips her middle finger in his direction. No one even gives him a thought as they busy themselves, Eldes stretching muttering to himself, Alice searching the corpse pulling out a set of keys and a sheathed sword which Marceline takes.

"If you don't open these doors I'm gonna yell for the guards ya know!"

"Keep it down"

Alice snaps back, throwing the keys in his direction. Sucram catches it with ease bringing the set to his face searching for their key. But he quickly resorts to just trying them all.

"Stupid…"

Ivor snatches the keys from his hands and shoves Sucram to the side, picking a random key before sliding the key into the keyhole as he pushes the door open.

Sucram gritted his teeth as he trailed behind him.

"Come on man! That was just lu-"

Upon taking the first step out of his cell he catches his first glimpse of Lyra.

The world seemed to slow around him. She leaned back against the cold stone, her posture casual yet captivating. Her dark hair swayed with an invisible breeze, catching the flickering orange light that danced across her face. Every detail about her felt spellbinding, like some enchantment woven just for him, so perfect, so tantalising. The way her pants hugged her slender legs stirred thoughts he could barely contain, each one more intoxicating than the last. Lyra lifted a hand, her fingers delicate yet powerful; he knew those soft hands held the skill to craft miracles, to wield strength beyond measure.

"OI CUNT!"

Sucram's world suddenly crashed down on him, as Alice pushed on his head.

Lyra pushed herself off the wall and walked to the centre of the group, stepping on the deceased without a care before subtly kicking it's head.

"Two volunteers, one to see what's on the left and the other side too."

"This guy riiight here!"

Ivor responds to Lyra by placing an arm around Sucram.

"You see this guy was telling me, he's a great pickpocket, notorious for hiding in plain sight too! Ain't that right?"

Sucram was surprised but still quickly answered Ivor's claims

"Yeah… Yeah!! I'll volunteer!"

"I'll go to the otherside, but first. Lyra, why only us two?"

Marcelline quickly assigned the position to herself taking a few paces towards Lyra as if to intimidate her.

But damn Lyra took no time so she does not care, Sucram could only see how badass this girl must be.

"One person might be able to hide or slip out if they're spotted, but a group? I'd expect a losing fight if it's not deep in this corridor."

Marcelline

Herself and Sucram quickly move to their respective ends of the corridor as the rest slink back into a cell waiting for them to report back.

She notices that her side has a barred window sill above the door leading to the outside. She decides against opening the door lest someone spots it open. She runs and jumps off of the wall, grabbing the window at her peak jump pulling herself up to it.

She sits on the space there peeking outside. It seems to be a courtyard bounded by a 20 foot wall. It's hard to tell with the heavy snow and the night, but from the moving torch light there's definitely guards on the wall.

"All i can see is a single corridor on my end, where it leads to i wouldn't know" Sucram says turning his head back to the group

Clank! Clank! Clank!

A series of unsynchronised footsteps could be heard coming towards the cell block from both sides of the door

"Shit shit shit.." Marcelline spots torchlight rapidly approaching Sucram's door as she hears guards nearby

Sucram quickly scurries into a cell to hide while Marcelline ready's her short sword while hanging on the window.

"He's been in there for a bit, just what is he doing in there?"

A guard spoke heard beyond the door. Both doors open at the same time with 2 guards at each, as they enter the pair of guards below Marceline freeze upon seeing their comrade lying dead.

The other pair of guards stop Marcelline above them and pull at their weapons as they prepare to alert the others of her escape.

Seeing this Marceline's quick to press her advantage. She leaps down to one of them, skewering one through the nape and as soon as she hits the ground, she spins and pushes the other with a kick.

Seizing this opportunity, Alice pulls out from her cell and rushes the guard delivering a devastating drop kick.

Clank!

the guard is sent backwards into the cell bars, the impact leaving a noticeable dent in the chest piece. Before the guard can pick himself up Alice grabs him by the neck and begins to pummel the guards face, leaving his face completely disfigured.

The rest of them begin to rush towards Marceline and Alice, weapons at the ready. Just moments before they could reach their goal Eldes bashes out of his cell running into one of the guards from the side and knocking him into the other.

Eldes breathes in deeply, fumes bellowing from his mouth as he unleashes a breath of fire, cooking them as they scream in great agony. But only for a moment as he grabs one by the head smashing it against the stone just before kicking the other's ribcage in.

Staring at the charred corpses Marcelline could only feel discomfort "ugh those screams are gonna haunt me for a while" she grimaces looking away from the bodies.
