Chapter 24 - Chapter 23: Tank Battle

Wei Tianyang closed his eyes, discerning the scents in the air.

Rain was falling from the sky, dispersing every scent and blurring the olfactory network into a mess. But he still caught the odor of the armed personnel.

It was the pungent body odor unique to Caucasians.

Still, it had to be said that they were very professional, keeping noise to a minimum as they moved and, unlike those plainclothes guards from Tiantai Pharmaceutical in town, refraining from whispering to one another.

They advanced silently and quietly. If Wei Tianyang hadn't been able to smell them, it would have been difficult to detect their positions through sound alone.

He turned onto his side and recognized his surroundings—he was lying in Grandpa Liu's house, except this small bungalow was left with only two walls, its roof long reduced to rubble.

He turned his body, and the rustling sound immediately drew the attention of the armed personnel.

Almost at the same time as he turned, bullets tore through the rain curtain and struck the pile of stones before him.

His backpack, which had risen slightly above the cover while he was turning, was punctured by bullets, and he felt something inside it break.

The shooting didn't last long. They didn't dare to come close; after all, they were facing a character who had single-handedly dismantled the entire Heavenly Fallen Objects Shelter. However, these people didn't show any sign of fear.

Wei Tianyang didn't hear gunshots or the sound of magazines being changed, so he couldn't tell what the enemy was up to, but this was his only chance.

He picked up a stone and immediately got up, taking a quick glance through the veil of rain.

He couldn't see the shooter, only a tank parked on a distant hillside.

The next second, gunfire rang out again. He heard shots from both left and right simultaneously, and the tank was slowly turning its gun barrel.

It turned out that after the ceasefire, the bastards had relocated to create a pincer attack on him.

Wei Tianyang retreated backward, but something struck his left shoulder, causing him to stagger.

He instinctively raised his right hand to block and in an instant, three bullets hit his palm, with three consecutive impacts throwing his body violently backward. He clumsily took cover behind the wall.

Before Wei Tianyang could get up, the tank opened fire.

A shell flew over, and then, Grandpa Liu's little house with only two remaining walls was completely reduced to a pile of ruins.

Wei Tianyang lay on his side under the pile of stones, his face covered in mud and ash.

The rain intensified, making scents even fainter, and he checked his injuries.

A rifle bullet had hit his left shoulder, tearing the flesh apart. At first, it had felt numb, but now the pain was so severe that he couldn't lift his arm.

The palm of his right hand had been hit by bullets, yet it hadn't sustained any substantial damage; as if the moment of impact had vanished.

He hadn't yet fully mastered his superpower, and all he could do for now was to try to locate the shooters.

These people were very professional.

They didn't have superpowers, but their mode of operation demonstrated a very high level of professional competence—they were silent, swift, precise, and lethal.

They were real killing machines.

Even with his superpower, he lacked any combat experience and was firmly suppressed by the opponent's professional team coordination.

He glanced up briefly, and bullets rained down like a storm, hitting debris and scattering it. The gunfire rhythmically attacked from all directions. He couldn't identify their positions by sound, and through the screen of rain, all he could see was a desolate expanse of overgrown weeds amidst the ruins.

He possessed brute strength but had no idea where the target was.

"Brother!"

Wei Tianyang was startled, actually hearing the childish voice of a little girl. Following the sound, he saw her standing in front of a broken wall.

"Over here!" The little girl shouted loudly from behind the wall.

He instantly understood!

Wei Tianyang crouched low, crawling behind a pile of rubble, striving to get closer to the wall that wasn't too far away because as soon as he stood up, he would be swept by various snipers; he could only reduce the distance first, and then resolve the fight with a swift strike!

The little girl was like his drone, updating Wei Tianyang with the latest positions of the armed personnel behind the wall as they moved—all by simply shouting out loud. Even without looking up, Wei Tianyang could roughly judge their locations by the sound.

He was now very close to the wall, only about four or five steps away.

And the sniper had no idea that Wei Tianyang was just a wall away from him.

Taking a deep breath, Wei Tianyang planted his hands on the ground, bent his left knee, and took the posture of an athlete at the start of a race.

The little girl stood in front of the wall, nodding at him.

With a powerful thrust of his thighs, he shot out like an arrow released from a bow.

His right fist clenched, the little girl ducking as he swung, and the next second, Wei Tianyang's right hook punched straight through the wall.

Large chunks of cement and stone, wrapped around the poor soul hidden behind the wall, flew more than ten meters out.

"Quick! Find the next one!" Wei Tianyang whispered intensely.

The little girl let out a "Hmm!" and ran off with nimble steps towards the exterior of their cover.

Meanwhile, his actions had revealed his position, as the distant tank had already aimed its cannon at him.

Cursing inwardly, he turned and dashed towards the back of the slums, where the ruins were denser. Although no obstacle for a tank, they provided better hiding places and made it harder for the gunmen to spot him.

The little girl wove through the ruins, occasionally stopping in front of a wall, which meant one thing: someone was hiding behind it.

Gunfire from the tank sounded behind him, armor-piercing rounds turning the already fragile and ruined bungalows into rubble. Wei Tianyang dodged and, guided by the girl's indications, took out snipers until they reached the drainage ditch by the slums.

Further ahead, there was no more cover. He turned around and heard the terrifying roar of the tank engine.

The tank crushed debris and broke through stone in a wild charge, only about twenty meters from him.

At his wit's end, Wei Tianyang noticed smoke grenades hanging on the bodies of the dead gunmen...

Clouds of smoke suddenly rose from all over the slum, completely obscuring Wei Tianyang from the tank's view and disorienting it.

Wei Tianyang circled around a few bungalows from behind, reaching the tank's flank.

In the dense fog, the tank's cannon was still aimed forward...

Where were they firing?!

Disable it first, make it unable to move!

In an instant, Wei Tianyang sprinted to the side of the tank, his fist striking the drive wheel.

Black corroding patterns appeared quickly on it, while the tank crew inside remained oblivious to the fact that someone had just punched their wheel. They kept rotating the turret, attempting to blast a way out.

Within a few breaths, pieces of the drive wheel were missing, and the tracks collapsed. The tank tried to engage again but could only spin in place.

He climbed up the undercarriage, onto the turret, and smashed the barrel with several punches, bending it into an L-shape.

The tank crew finally sensed something was amiss, opened the hatch, and emergede with a handgun to check. Looking up, they saw Wei Tianyang towering above before they could raise their weapon, the dark fist already crashing into their face.

The tank soldier's head shattered, the remaining part turned black and disintegrated, the body thumping down into the cockpit.

He turned and climbed the turret, reaching for the round top hatch.

The next second, the hatch suddenly flipped open, catching Wei Tianyang off guard.

An officer with a fierce expression climbed halfway out and pointed a sawed-off double-barreled shotgun at Wei Tianyang's abdomen.

"Go to hell! You motherfucker!"

A gunshot rang out.

Wei Tianyang flew backward.
