Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

MELISSA

As per the intel I received from the spy, there was a secret soiree scheduled to take place in a renowned venue exclusively frequented by underworld gangs and families. Additionally, an auction was on the agenda with Vincenzo Grant slated to make an appearance.

If I can just get a chance to get closer or alone with him, I would kill him.

Finally tightening the last strap of my gown, I was ready to leave. I made sure to dress for the 'occasion' so I could blend in.

A call came through my phone.

"Your invite is ready." Said the caller.

"Good," I responded curtly.

Getting into the gala was only by invite and I had gotten someone to get me one, whatever way he did that.

I grabbed my bag and stepped out. I arrived at the garage and drove out of the mansion. As I drove through the night road, I tapped my thigh, where a small dagger was strapped. The same goes for my other thigh and practically every secretive position I can strap a weapon to.

After half an hour of driving, I pulled into the parking lot of Black Hall, joining other exclusive vehicles.

Stepping out of the car I didn't hesitate to approach the entrance with confident steps. Walking slowly and with caution might trigger suspicion as everyone in this place is highly on alert. Not everyone here was friends.

"Pass." The grumpy bouncer that was stationed at the entrance requested. I showed him the white card embroidered with a red patch insignia.

With a nod from him, I was allowed passage.

I have been to this place twice but it still looked breathtaking as always. I was stuck gawking at the magnificent chandeliers and exquisite art display. It took a while before I remembered myself and focused.

I had to keep my eye on the price.

"Now where is that Don?" I muttered, my eyes doing a scan around the other well-loaded people.

Not a sign of him. "Shit!" He must still be on his way, I hope so.

In the meantime, I will try to make myself inconspicuous.

I grabbed a drink and walked to an empty table.

The Hitlers may be the greatest mafia group in the underworld of America …well, until the Grants popped up about a year ago, but only a few people knew of my existence as Capo Antonio's daughter.

I guess Father is ashamed to have me. I plan on changing that fact.

Downing the drink, I glanced at the increasing crowd but still no sign of Vincenzo anywhere.

"One glass of tequila!" A gruff voice said next to me. I shifted on the stool, I recognized that voice. Deciding to take a peek at the person, my jaws almost tore apart to see Cade.

"Hello, princess." He smirked without turning to me.

"What are you doing here, I can handle this on my own." I half yelled, feeling angry about their poking already.

"Oh, I'm not here for you." He corrected as the bartender arrived to serve his drink.

"You're not?" I asked as soon as the bartender disappeared.

"No. I'm here for a deal with the Davinos. I wasn't even aware you were coming to this destination." He said, gulping down his drink.

"I see, well stay out of my way, Case." I threatened and he chuckled.

"Just be careful, princess. The Grants are people to meddle with, especially Vincenzo Grants." With that, the underboss of our family was out of my sight.

I sighed, taking in his last words. I would have to be very careful, stealthy, and precise. No room for mistakes.

A small commotion drew my attention to the entrance of the hall. I sat up in anticipation as the crowd at the entrance slowly cleared.

And there he was, the man I who brought his family out of the ashes, the new boss of bosses, the most feared Don…oh why am I even praising the enemy?

I watched as Vincenzo Grants, flanked by the finest bodyguards I have ever seen, walked towards another part of the hall. His skull face mask added to his menacing aura. I guess that was a V.I.P. section. Nothing the Grants Don can't afford.

I can't get into the V.I.P. section. Heck, I even forged an invite to get into this gala. I would just have to wait for the auction to begin.

And that didn't take long anyway, after an hour, we were all moved to another hall. This one had chairs and a stage arranged. I made sure to sit somewhere near the back roll but I didn't see Vincenzo anywhere. "Where's this motherfucker now?"

Silence descended in the hall as the moderator mounted the stage to announce the items up for grabs that night.

"Ten million dollars for this exclusive NFT art! Can I get a fifteen?" The auctioneer's voice faded into the background as my attention was solely on finding Vincenzo.

"Seventeen million dollars!" I looked at the man who declared only to see it was Cade. My eyes thinned on him. He was flanked by men I knew, men from our mafia. I thought he said he was just here for a deal. Why does it feel like he is here to watch me?

"Thirty million!" The auctioneer yelled excitedly. My gaze went up in the direction of where he was grinning.

Who would spend so much…

"Art NFT gone to Vincenzo Grant…"

I glared at the Don who was seated behind a wall of glass above us. He was bidding from a fucking V. I. P section! Does he always have to be treated so specially?

That made me confirm that Cade was here for me. Our mafia group was at the top of the chain. Even the Grants haven't been able to outshine us. So why won't an underboss from the top mafia family in America be able to afford a V.I.P. section of a building he helps in its construction?

Suddenly, Vincenzo turned his gaze to me. It was so sudden, that I gasped out of shock. His mask was truly menacing as it made chills run down my spine. It was over just as it came.

Just then, he stood to his feet and walked out of the V.I.P. section. This was my chance, he wasn't with any bodyguard, and I could easily take him out without getting so close.

With one glance at Cade who was also locking me with his gaze, I stood up and followed Vincenzo Grant.

My fingers instinctively tapped the daggers on my body as I made my way into the dimly lit corridor the Grants Don went through.

The walls were white and it gave off an eerie feeling. The clicking of my boots was the only sound there. I could hear my heartbeat like it was a separate part of me.

As I rounded a corner, I slid my Glock out of the holster under my gown. Taking caution, I pointed the gun forward as I proceeded.

Where has the motherfucker gone so quickly?

A small shriek rented my ears and I turned around with alert. There was no Vincenzo. I sighed, losing my guard and dropping my hands to my side.

"I might as well just…ah!" As I turned around again, I was immediately greeted by a skull. Face.

My screams were muffled by a large hand. My gun hand rose to shoot the assailant but my wrist was gripped and smashed onto the wall, causing me to drop the gun.

His body pressed against mine as his skull face looked down on me. I swear I could see a smirk through that mask. My heartbeat was vibrating now as my eyes darted around in

panic.

"You want me, princess?" His gruff voice spat.
