Chereads / Crowned in Shadow / Chapter 3 - Lost and Alone

Chapter 3 - Lost and Alone

We stumbled through the endless maze of trees to find a safe place to sit and rest. I tried to return to the World Tree but couldn't find it.

Maybe I ran too far from it.

The day was about to end, and we were in the middle of a dark forest lost and no place to stay the night.

We were venturing through the maze of trees when I heard a roar and the little guy in my arms also gave a similar but way less fearsome roar before I could understand what was going on we were surrounded by two who looked like the bigger version of the little guy.

One of them had darker fur maybe she was a female and the other was a muscular beast in its own league. They were more fearsome than the snake we face. Perhaps they were the little guy's parents.

I thought to myself

please be his parents...please.

because I knew we couldn't escape from these guys if they attacked us.

They were circling us rumbling and growling as if warning me. The little guy in my arms started moving, his eyes lit with hope and happiness, and he let out a soft growl.

The massive creature with the darker fur fixed its glowing eyes on him, its gaze sharp and deliberate. Slowly, it raised one powerful paw and gestured downward, the motion purposeful and clear.

I hesitated, realizing it wasn't an attack but a sign—a command to place the cub down. The weight of her silent authority was undeniable.

I slowly and carefully bent down, keeping my eyes on the massive creature, and gently placed him on the ground. After that, I stepped away.

As I stepped away, both of them quickly gathered around their cub. They started sniffing and licking him, and the mother was licking his wound.

When looking from afar they looked like a happy little family. The little guy was with his family which made me happy as well as a bit sad knowing that I'll be alone again.

He looked at me and tried to come to but couldn't, his parents stepped back as if they were permitting me to come near their cub, I went to him and sat down held in my arms one last time petting him, I felt sad that he was leaving me the little time we spent together made as close.

His parents purred letting me know it was time for them to go. I said goodbye, and his mother grabbed him with her mouth put on her back and they left.

After they left I was alone once again. It was past afternoon so I had to find a place to spend the night because I didn't want to be exposed to the dangers of this world after seeing the beasts I have today I am not sure I want to stay in this forest.

I started walking toward the East. Because I read somewhere that " You will always find people in the direction the sun rises from".

Some time had passed since I had started walking it was getting darker and louder I could hear animal noises and see birds going to their nest, and I still couldn't find a safe place Its all that Danmed snake's fault if he hadn't attacked us I would've been near the world tree and spend the night there, come to think of it something really weird happen today with me it happened to time first when I punched that snake and second when I threw the stone at him which pierced through his eye.

Have I gotten stronger? I don't seem to get tired either because, with the amount of running, I did today I shouldn't be able to move but I think I can run a marathon right now, and my body its a bit more muscular than it used to be I was fit in my old life and quite strong too but I wasn't strong enough to through a stone that could pierce through a snake that big. Maybe I'll get a chance to test if I got stronger or not.

The sun was about to set and still hadn't found a safe place to spend the night. The noises of the beasts living in the forest were getting louder and louder. So I started running as I was running through the forest the cold air hitting my body made me feel free and being almost naked helped a lot.

I ran for quite some time and then I found a tree that had some interesting fruits that I had never eaten before so I climbed the tree and started to pick the fruits. I didn't have something to put the fruits in so I started eating them on the tree.

The fruit had a bittersweet taste on the outside but its middle part was creme which combined with the outer bittersweetness made it taste really good.

As I was eating I completely lost track of time it was almost night. the trees blocked the little light that was coming from the sun it was dark and cold. I was a little afraid of getting down the tree but if I stayed I would've fought a cold. I got down and started to look for someplace to take shelter in and spend the night.

After a few minutes, I saw a hollow tree that was big enough for me to stay in for the night. then I gathered dry leaves from the ground and spreaded them in the hollow tree to make it easy for me to sleep. I got into the hollow tree and recalled all the things that happened to me.

It was a cold night but the dry leaves helped a lot. I laid down and thought of how peaceful my life was before all this happened I don't know when I fell asleep but I slept like a baby that night maybe I was more tired than I realized.
