Chapter 28 - Bad memory (part2)

After arranging the dishes, the nurse looked at Charlotte's face, who still refused to look at her. From afar, she noticed a faint redness on Charlotte's cheeks, which made her feel worried.

"Miss Smith, are you okay?"

She asked hurriedly.

"She's fine,"

Leonid replied calmly instead of Charlotte as he prepared to leave, putting on his jacket while lifting his silver hair and placing his phone into his pocket.

"I'll leave now, but I'll come back tomorrow to take you home."

Leonid approached Charlotte and pinched her cheek gently.

"Are you listening to me?"

"Hmph."

Charlotte puffed her cheeks and pursed her lips after Leonid pinched her. Her chestnut hair fell to the side of her face as she lowered her head, staring at the stack of dishes.

Her cheeks were still red, and her eyes sparkled with embarrassment.

Was what was happening to her normal in a relationship? Also, was Leonid's confession genuine, or was he still teasing her?

"Stop pouting."

Leonid gently tapped Charlotte's plump lips with his fingers and added,

"That doesn't suit you, alright?"

After the light blow she received unexpectedly, Charlotte flinched and narrowed her eyes; feelings of embarrassment were replaced by feelings of annoyance.

She opened her mouth, almost biting Leonid's fingers that were on her lips, but Leonid pulled them away just in time, effortlessly.

The nurse widened her eyes at the free romantic scene, but she remained silent with her steady smile.

"Your memory is getting worse, darling~"

Leonid furrowed his brows and sighed, looking at his fingers before pointing downward.

"The food is on the plates there, not on my fingers."

Charlotte's face burned with embarrassment because of Leonid. No matter what they did, he always ended up being the rational one.

And how could he call her "Darling" so casually? That just made her blush even more!

"I know! I know well, so stop saying my memory is bad."

"Oh my…"

Leonid sighed coldly and patted Charlotte's head, applying some force with each pat.

"Please take care of her,"

Leonid said calmly to the nurse, as if Charlotte wasn't struggling with the strength of his hand each time.

"She's a bit spoiled, as you've seen before, so be a little lenient with her, but there's no need to spoil her further."

"As you wish, sir."

For some unknown reason, the nurse slightly bowed her head, ready to accept Leonid's orders, no matter how bossy. Perhaps it was the sense of fear she felt towards the man.

"Goodbye for now."

Leonid bid her farewell, ruffling her hair before leaving, finally granting her some peace.

"Miss Smith, I'm counting on you to eat your food. I'll now go assist the other patients."

"Hm…"

Charlotte ignored the nurse, who quickly left, and combed her chestnut locks before starting to eat.

Today, could she describe herself as someone in a relationship with a man? What about Leonid? Did he call himself a man in a relationship, or was he still single?

Inside the CEO's office, Kaiser lay on the couch, completely at ease after his head was bandaged. Thankfully, Alex had unparalleled medical skills.

Had Alex studied medicine before? Kaiser imagined Alex wearing a doctor's coat, then shook his head.

"How could a thick-glasses nerd become a doctor? That's impossible~"

However, if it weren't for Alex's hands and expertise, he'd still be bleeding.

Kaiser sighed and stared at the ceiling. From morning until evening, Charlotte hadn't called him.

Was she feeling better? In fact, according to Kaiser, the fever shouldn't last more than five hours. However, as for Charlotte, he isn't sure.

He thought to himself, then lifted his phone off his chest and sent a text message to Charlotte.

Kaiser: [Hey~ You haven't called me? Are you okay now?]

After confirming that the ban was no longer in place, Kaiser turned off his phone and tossed it back onto his chest.

Moments later, while still staring at the ceiling, his phone buzzed, and he quickly grabbed it.

Charlotte: [I'm fine.]

Kaiser raised his red eyebrow and smiled, but his smile faded as he read the next message.

Charlotte: [My neighbor took me to the hospital for treatment.]

"That bastard."

Kaiser muttered, cursing Leonid, and replied to Charlotte's message.

Kaiser: [Do you need anything? I can bring you whatever you want, no matter what it is.]

Charlotte hung up her phone and thought, even though Leonid had forced her to leave, she described it as if he had taken her with him graciously.

Her phone rang as she received another message. She opened the front screen and her black eyes lit up as she looked at Kaiser's message like a precious jewel.

She dropped the spoon from her hand and wrote a quick reply.

Charlotte: [Really!]

Charlotte: [Can I ask for anything at all?]

Kaiser: [Of course you can. Just tell me what you want.]

Charlotte: [You're not teasing me, right?]

Kaiser: [Definitely not.]

"Oh my God!"

Charlotte shouted, holding her phone between her hands.

"He's a real angel! A true, kind-hearted saint!"

She was deeply grateful to have a wonderful friend like Kaiser. At this moment, he felt like a saint to her.

Inside the CEO's office, Kaiser waited patiently for Charlotte's reply, leaning his elbow on his thigh as he sat on the couch.

He tapped his cheek with his finger, assuming Charlotte was probably jumping for joy now.

Charlotte: [I want ice cream, please.]

"Ice cream? As expected, she's a simple girl who never changes."

Kaiser laughed and replied to Charlotte's message.

Kaiser: [Alright. Send me the list of ice cream flavors you want, and also don't forget the hospital's name and your room number.]

Charlotte: [Okay, I'll do that right away!]

After replying to Kaiser, Charlotte immediately began working on her ice cream list.

In fact, Charlotte had wanted ice cream from the moment she woke up, but asking Leonid for ice cream seemed like an impossible idea, especially since he was treating her as if she were still a child with a bad memory.

"Chocolate, and more chocolate, please~"

Charlotte smiled as she typed the ice cream flavors she wanted. Suddenly, she stopped typing, realizing something important.

Kaiser asked for the hospital name and room number, and that was a huge problem.

Why? Because, first, she didn't know the hospital's name. And second, she didn't know her room number either.

Inside the CEO's office, Kaiser prepared to move out. Since Charlotte had requested ice cream at this hour, it meant everything was fine.

He opened his office door and walked out, calling out,

"Alex, I'm leaving now."

Kaiser stopped in front of Alex's desk and said urgently.

"Lock up the company doors and keep the key. I'll see you tomorrow morning~!"

Then, he headed toward the elevator.

"Young Master, where are you going?!"

Alex stood up, asking in concern. He was still worried about Kaiser because of the head injury, but Kaiser ignored him completely and left via the elevator.

After being ignored, Alex sighed and shook his head. He made his way to the executive office to close the door that his young master had left open behind him.

Inside Hospital Room 261

Charlotte sighed, buttoned up her coat, and put on Leonid's sunglasses. Thankfully, Leonid hadn't taken his belongings with him.

She walked toward the door, brushed her hair, and took a deep breath before stepping out into the hallway. The first thing Charlotte noticed was the medical staff and patients walking at varying paces.

Gathering her courage, Charlotte stepped outside, pulled out her phone, and took a picture of her room number.

"I'll send this picture to Kaiser…"

She whispered to herself as she pressed 'send' and closed her phone. Looking around, she started walking toward the reception area.

Leonid's sunglasses kept sliding down her nose, but she persistently adjusted them every time to avoid locking eyes with anyone.

"Where's the reception desk in this hospital…?"

Charlotte muttered to herself in a low voice, stopping suddenly in the hallway when she spotted the reception desk.

It required going down an escalator and heading to the main hall, which served as the hospital's front lobby.

"Ex.. Excuse me."

Charlotte whispered softly, trying to speak to the receptionist, but the tall man with the long neck didn't notice her.

"Can he really not hear me or see me at least? Sir…"

Charlotte blinked and stared at the simple-looking man's face. Her sunglasses slipped again, and she quickly adjusted them with her middle finger, saying,

"Excuse me…"

She repeated the polite call, but the receptionist continued to ignore her and even turned to chat with his colleague.

"Hey, I'm talking to you… sir."

At that moment, Charlotte began to hate this place, the staff who ran it, and the high table that made her look short.

"How dare he ignore me? That's not nice at all!"

Charlotte clenched her teeth as she began walking toward the main gate. She shouldn't have relied on anyone from the start when she could easily read the hospital's name on the sign outside.

Just moments before stepping out the main gate, Charlotte felt strange, like a prisoner about to escape from jail.

It was ridiculous to think that way, yet it felt real at this moment.

"This is good."

Charlotte took a clear picture of the name and then walked back inside with quiet steps. She could now relax after sending Kaiser the room number and hospital name and later enjoy some ice cream.

She adjusted the sunglasses she was wearing and headed toward her room. On her way, Charlotte stopped and looked around, as if someone was watching her.

At times, she would even turn around to glance behind her.

Strangely enough, she could hear slow footsteps close behind her, yet whenever she turned to look, there was nothing there.

Charlotte crossed her arms and ignored her intuition. Surrounded by patients and medical staff, she felt there was nothing to fear inside the hospital.

In truth, the only thing she should fear now was the doctors themselves.

After entering her room, Charlotte quickly closed the door behind her, then headed to the bed to get some rest before Kaiser arrived.

Half an hour later, Kaiser arrived at the hospital carrying a bag of groceries. After parking his car, he headed to the gate and went to room 261.

When he arrived, he stopped and knocked gently on the door before immediately entering.

"Kaiser~!"

He was greeted by Charlotte, who was happy to see him.
