Chen Ke was on a plateau that also had a path leading downwards, albeit significantly narrower than the one overhead—so much so that it wasn't actually a path. One had to sidle along, pressing against the wall with great care to barely squeeze through.

Taking advantage of the daylight, Chen Ke peered into the pitch-dark cavern. After igniting the Fire-igniting Broadsword and throwing it into the cave like a torch, the illumination revealed a whole other world within—a labyrinth of stone pathways.
Feeling no danger, he tossed the sword inside first, then crawled in himself, using his hands and feet. He picked up the burning broadsword and carefully began to explore the stone paths.
