Jiang Xiaobai had not expected to wait an entire afternoon; it was nearly four o'clock when Gu Xi finally called him.
"Grandma, do you still want to go to the county town?" Jiang Xiaobai's tone was laced with reproach.
Gu Xi apologized, "I got busy and totally forgot about the time. I'm at the village committee. Come here, and let's hurry."
Jiang Xiaobai rushed to the village committee and immediately left Nanwan Village with Gu Xi. They walked to the town and then drove towards the county town.
When they reached the county government, it was already five in the afternoon, and it was pitch dark outside.
"Maybe everyone has already left work."
Before he finished speaking, Gu Xi suddenly shouted, "Jiang Xiaobai, stop that car!"
Jiang Xiaobai floored the accelerator and blocked an old black Audi that was just leaving the county government.
"That's County Mayor Wu's car!" Gu Xi told Jiang Xiaobai, prompting him to understand why they had to stop this particular car.
