Chou Long, carrying Li Shengnan on his back, ran wildly without choosing his path. Unknowingly, he ended up by the side of a river. There was no way forward, and he feared being caught by Jiang Xiaobai if they turned back. Clenching his teeth, Chou Long carried Li Shengnan into the water.
Dense clouds covered the night sky; the stars and moon were dim, the scattered starlight was nowhere to be seen. Chou Long's vision was pitch black, he had no idea how wide the river was, nor how deep the water, so he could only fumble his way across the river by touching the stones.
Halfway through, at the deepest part, the water only came up to his chest. Chou Long was overjoyed, thinking that his gamble had paid off.
After reaching the shore, Chou Long was nearly at the brink of collapse; he dropped Li Shengnan on the riverbank and himself fell onto the shore, gasping for air. He was already injured, and carrying Li Shengnan for so long had severely drained his strength.
