Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Fishing Spots

Lu Qing, with a trail of little ones following behind him, arrived at a river just outside the village.

The river wasn't very wide; the widest part stretched about ten meters.

However, while it wasn't wide, it was quite deep. The deepest spot could easily submerge an adult, which is why the village adults strictly forbade children from playing in the river.

Lu Qing naturally adhered to these teachings.

So, upon reaching the river, he immediately turned to the children trailing him and said seriously, "You all must not get close to the water or play near it, understand?"

Though Lu Qing looked a bit frail, he was already fourteen or fifteen years old, which, in the eyes of these kids, made him half an adult.

None of the children dared to disobey him, replying obediently, "Got it, Brother Lu Qing."

Seeing that the little ones agreed, Lu Qing turned to Little Yan and said, "And Little Yan, you need to behave as well. Don't go near the edge either. Just stay up here and keep an eye on the wooden bucket so the fish don't escape, alright?"

"Okay~" Little Yan responded sweetly, then asked, "Brother, when are you going to start fishing?"

"Don't rush. Let me check first; fishing isn't as simple as picking any random spot."

*This was Lu Qing's hard-earned wisdom from experience.*

*Fishing, if one wanted to do it well, required several crucial steps.*

*For instance: choosing a spot, chumming the water, calibrating the float, and preparing bait. Every single step could significantly affect the likelihood of catching fish.*

*Among these steps, none were as important as choosing a fishing spot.*

*A good fishing spot often directly impacted the chance of success in catching fish.*

*After all, even the most skilled housewife couldn't cook without rice. If the spot selected was poor and the water beneath was barren of fish,*

*then even the most accomplished fishing expert would exert their expertise in vain—ending up with an empty net.*

In his past life, Lu Qing had been a seasoned fishing enthusiast, someone quite knowledgeable about the craft.

Naturally, he was experienced in picking fishing spots.

Although now he found himself in the Otherworld,

*the laws of nature often shared common ground across different worlds.*

*The fish of this Otherworld likely didn't diverge much in their habits either.*

*Which got him thinking—could he use his past-life expertise to find a good fishing spot and maximize the effectiveness of today's outing?*

Chumming the water wasn't an option, however. His household barely had enough to eat, let alone extra food to attract fish.

After ensuring the little ones stayed put under a large tree, Lu Qing began steadily walking along the riverbank, scanning the water's surface.

Before long, he spotted a location that seemed promising.

Grabbing a wooden stick, he pushed down the overgrown grass at the riverbank to clear the path, then moved closer to examine the spot.

It was a curved bay where the current was gentle, lush with aquatic plants—a potentially excellent fishing spot.

After observing for a while and feeling somewhat satisfied, Lu Qing was about to turn back to get his fishing rod when a strange grey light suddenly appeared in his field of vision.

*This grey light was something Lu Qing had grown all too familiar with; he must have seen it countless times today.*

His body froze in place as he quietly watched the water's surface.

The grey light gradually took form, creating a one-meter-wide spiral ripple on the water's surface.

Soon, a line of text emerged:

[Ordinary Fishing Spot: A gathering place for small fish. Seems like a decent location for fishing.]

The spot marked by the grey light was precisely where Lu Qing had originally picked as a fishing spot.

Lu Qing was taken aback, then a surge of joy swept through him.

*His superpower actually had this kind of functionality? It could even detect fishing spots?*

Simultaneously, a hint of pride rose in his heart.

*Predictably, his knowledge of picking fishing spots was reliable enough to earn the superpower's recognition.*

With this unexpected discovery, Lu Qing wasn't in a hurry to start fishing anymore.

He continued to walk along the riverbank, this time deliberately employing his superpower to search for fishing spots across the water.

Before long, along this stretch of river, he located two more fishing spots.

What delighted him even more was that one of them wasn't emitting grey light—it was radiating a faint white glow.

[Ordinary Fishing Spot: A prime route for fish schools searching for food. Might yield a decent catch here.]

[Primary Fishing Point: A place where wild fruits often fall, attracting certain large fish who favor such treats.]

[Fishing here might lead to rare and intriguing catches.]

There were three descriptions: one for the grey-lit spot and the other two for the white-lit spots.

"Indeed, the grey light and white light represent different tiers of the same concept. Grey light corresponds to Ordinary Fishing Spots, while white light signifies Primary Fishing Points," Lu Qing muttered to himself.

*And from the descriptions, it was evident that even higher-tier fishing spots existed.*

*He just didn't know if this little river outside the village contained that level of fishing spot.*

After pinpointing these three spots, Lu Qing stopped searching any further.

The three fishing points already covered the cleaner stretch of river outside the village.

Beyond this area, the vegetation on either side of the river grew increasingly dense, making the path harder to traverse.

Without the aid of tools to clear the area, it wasn't just fishing that would be difficult—even approaching the riverbank would be a challenge.

He wasn't in the position to undertake such an effort at the moment.

Besides, these three spots were already more than enough for his current needs.

*What he needed to consider now was which spot to fish at first.*

After thinking it over, Lu Qing ultimately decided to start fishing at the first spot he had discovered.

The reason was simple.

*Based on the superpower's description, the waters at that spot mostly contained small fish.*

*The fishing rod he'd crafted was rudimentary at best,*

*and he wasn't sure whether the hemp line's durability could withstand much tension.*

*If he rashly went after big fish and the fishing line snapped, he'd be left in despair.*

*After all, the leftover hemp at home couldn't produce more than a few suitable lines.*

*Most critically, he had only one fishing hook to his name. If he lost it, fishing would be impossible.*

So playing it safe with small fish was the better choice.

Having made up his mind, Lu Qing began heading back toward the large tree. He found the little ones obediently waiting for him and gave them a satisfied nod.

Actually, Lu Qing hadn't wandered far—he stayed within their line of sight, afraid these mischievous kids might scatter the moment they couldn't see him.

"Brother, you're back!"

Seeing Lu Qing return, Little Yan joyfully ran to greet him.

"Mm, I'm back."

"So, did you decide where to fish?"

"I did. Let's head there now."

Hearing that Lu Qing had chosen a fishing spot, the children instantly perked up.

The more energetic one stepped forward to carry the wooden bucket: "Brother Lu Qing, let me help you with this!"

Lu Qing didn't refuse. This group of kids ranged between eleven and eight years old—prime energy-filled ages. A little exertion would do them good.

Soon, the group arrived at the spot Lu Qing had picked.

"You all stay up here and just watch me fish. Don't go too close to the water, understand? Ah Hu, you're the oldest, so help keep an eye on them."

Ah Hu was the oldest among the group of kids.

At twelve, he was old enough to understand responsibility.

"Got it, Brother Lu Qing!"

Seeing the kids nod obediently, Lu Qing gave a satisfied smile, grabbed his fishing rod and bucket, and walked down the slope toward the fishing spot.
