Cedric felt the weight of the virtual helmet settle on his head, and in a flash, the cozy cafe and Gelian's reassuring smile vanished. Darkness blanketed his vision, accompanied by a faint, echoing silence. Just as he wondered what was happening, a soft but powerful voice cut through the silence, surrounding him.
"Open your eyes… Open your eyes…"
A faint, glimmering blue light pierced through the dark, revealing a figure lying in what looked like a pool of strange, luminous liquid. Cedric's pulse quickened as he realized he was witnessing the start of his journey in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He watched, captivated, as the figure—Link, the hero of this story—stirred from his deep slumber, blinking as he took in his mysterious surroundings. Cedric held his breath, the scene feeling more real than any story he had ever read.
Link's movements were deliberate, as if he could feel the weight of his own limbs, and Cedric could feel the tension as he took each step forward, entering a small, ancient room. There, a strange, glowing device awaited him—a Sheikah Slate. The symbols on its surface glowed with a mystical blue light, and Link lifted it from its pedestal, examining it with curiosity.
"This… this is unreal," Cedric whispered, so immersed that he barely heard Gelian's voice through the headset.
"Enjoying it?" Gelian's voice held a hint of amusement.
"It's like… I'm really there!" Cedric marveled. "This is more than a game. It feels… real."
He barely had time to catch his breath when the Sheikah Slate guided him toward a stone door. The room was suddenly flooded with sunlight, and Cedric gasped as he saw the world stretch out before him. The sight was magnificent: rolling hills, ancient ruins, a landscape that looked both beautiful and dangerous.
As Cedric took in the breathtaking view, a system alert flashed across his vision:
System Alert: Welcome, Cedric Hale, to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
With a grin, Cedric took his first few steps into the open world, feeling the crunch of grass beneath his feet and the wind that swept through the trees. He felt so real in this world that he almost forgot he wasn't really there.
It wasn't long before he encountered his first challenge—a group of small, goblin-like creatures called Bokoblins. They stood around a campfire, laughing and swinging their crude weapons. Cedric's heart pounded. He'd never seen anything like them before, and he hesitated, suddenly unsure of himself.
"What do I do?" he muttered, gripping his control device.
"It's just a game, Cedric," Gelian's calm voice broke through. "Even if they 'kill' you, you'll revive back at the starting point. Trust me, you're safe."
Cedric swallowed, nodding. "Right… just a game." With his nerves slightly steadied, he gripped the control device, ready to make his move.
He approached the Bokoblins with his makeshift stick raised, trying to focus on his plan. But the second they noticed him, they charged, howling and waving their weapons. Cedric's heart raced as he swung his stick wildly, missing his mark and stumbling backward. The creatures closed in, and in a panic, Cedric tried to dodge their strikes, but one managed to land a hit, knocking Link to the ground.
Before he could react, the screen went dark, and Cedric felt a jolt of shock. A small scream escaped him as he realized he had "died," only for the game to reload, putting him back at the starting point.
"What… what just happened?" he whispered.
Gelian chuckled softly, a reassuring sound. "See? Just like I said—you revived at the starting point. Now you can try again."
Cedric took a deep breath, feeling both embarrassed and amused by his reaction. He couldn't believe he had screamed over a game, but the thrill of it, the adrenaline, was exhilarating. With renewed determination, he gripped the control device and marched back toward the camp, ready to face his foes again.
This time, Cedric watched the Bokoblins closely, observing their movements. When one of them lunged, he dodged to the side, swinging his stick and landing a satisfying hit. He grinned as the creature stumbled, then struck again, landing his blow with more precision. The remaining Bokoblins attacked, and Cedric dodged, parried, and attacked until the last one fell, scattering its crude weapons and loot across the ground.
A sense of triumph surged through him as he caught his breath. He couldn't believe he'd done it—his first victory. A small grin spread across his face.
"I… I actually did it!" Cedric said, his excitement bubbling over.
"Not bad," Gelian's voice sounded amused. "You see? It's all about persistence."
With a sense of newfound confidence, Cedric looked back at the screen, seeing the scattered spoils of his victory. For the first time, he truly felt like he was part of this world, and he couldn't wait to see what other adventures lay ahead.
As Cedric continued on, exploring the vast landscape and following the Sheikah Slate's guidance, he knew this was only the beginning.
