Tie San, the Daoist practitioner, followed a heterodox path. In the past, he had a junior brother who had caused too much killing and found his final calamity difficult to overcome. Later, taking his disciples with him, he converted to Buddhism at Shaolin Temple, where he became a monk, confessed his sins in front of Buddha, and vowed to repay the debts of vengeance over nine lifetimes. Ultimately, he was able to die a peaceful and natural death.
