Chapter 50 - Can't risk

Austin and Matt left the house very early in the morning because of the morning meeting he was having with the share holders. Inside the car on their way to the company Matt brought out his iPad. Austin, I need to review your schedule for today. You have a morning meeting with the share holders and afterwards, you are free until lunch.

However, there are two conflicting commitments. You are scheduled to meet to meet with Mr. Thompson for contract renewal discussions and also with Mr Jenkins for the signing of the distribution agreement... How come? Could we reschedule one of these meetings? I already tried Mr. Thompson is available only today at lunch break for the contract renewal before he leaves the country, mean while, Mr. Jenkins is not flexible with his schedule. Both meetings are critical, and postponing either one could have significant consequences. Yes Matt this is putting us in a very difficult position.

I don't know if it would be possible for you to attend to Mr Thompson's contract renewal first, and then meet with Mr. Jenkins after ward? I can facilitate the meeting with Mr. Jenkins and ensure everything runs smoothly while you are with Mr. Thompson, and then you can meet Mr. Jenkins afterwards. That not a bad one let give it a try.

Mitchell went to the office, where she was happy to see her old coworkers, Seb, Jade and Nicole were excited to reunite with their former colleagues, and the office was buzzing with celebration.

As lunchtime approached, Mitchell mentioned she needed to pick up her twins from preschool. "Why don't we grab lunch together?" she suggested. Nicole and Seb agreed, but Jade declined, citing lunch plans with her parents.

After the morning meeting with the shareholders, Austin returned to his office to tackle some work. Once he'd made progress, he headed out to meet Mr. Thompson for the contract renewal. Following a productive discussion and the signing of the contract, Austin rushed to meet Matt, who had been urging him to hurry.

The group headed out for lunch, and Mitchell, Seb, and Nicole enjoyed a peaceful meal until Maxwell, Mitchell's son, interrupted. "Momma, I need to go to the bathroom!" Nicole quickly offered to take him, leaving Mitchell, Madison, and Seb to continue their lunch.

Matt had been struggling to keep Mr. Jenkins occupied, and the latter was growing impatient. Austin hastened to the restaurant, pushing open the door to reveal a face he hadn't seen in four years – one he'd often longed to see.

As he stood there, frozen in surprise, Matt's voice crackled over the phone. "Austin, are you still there?" Austin snapped back to reality, responding, "Yeah, I'm on my way – heading to the private room." Matt's relieved tone came through the line: "Oh, thank goodness!"

The atmosphere was lively, with laughter and conversation flowing freely, until the door swung open and Mitchell's eyes met those of Austin, the person she had longed to see for so long. She froze, unsure how to react, as he seemed equally surprised.

The surprise was short-lived, as Austin quickly put his phone back to his ear and muttered something before walking past Mitchell, as if he hadn't seen her.

Madison's eyes widened as she lifted her head, and in a flash, she saw her brother's face on a grown-up body. "Mama, isn't that Papa?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. "Momma, isn't that Papa going there?"

As Austin walked to the private room, he thought to himself, "So it's true, she's back... and she has a daughter. And her husband... he seems quite familiar." He couldn't help but feel a pang of surprise. "She has really moved on," he thought.

Austin shook his head, refocusing. "Focus, Austin, focus," he muttered, taking a deep breath. With newfound composure, he stepped into the private room.

Austin immediately met with Matt. "Thank God you're here!" Matt exclaimed. "This man is such a pain in the butt!". Hearing Matt's remark, a slight smile appeared on Austin's lips. He nodded at Matt before sitting down with Mr. Jenkins.

At the table were their Mitchell was having lunch went quite when Madison finish speaking. But Seb couldn't help but make a remark. "Wow, I'm not gonna lie... Austin is really, really handsome and even more mature. Ah, Madison, your dad is something else!".

Momma, can we please go talk to Dad? I'm sure he'll be happy to know about us. Momma, please? I think he didn't see us. Let's go meet him!.

Madison, sweetie, we can't, okay? Why, Momma?" Madison asked.

Because, baby, doesn't know about you and your brother. And so you know he saw me, let's just eat our food and leave this place, okay?... No wonder he doesn't know about me and Maxwell! Then let's go and tell him! Let's tell him about us! No, Momma, please! Let's go meet him!.

I said no already! Why are you being so stubborn, Madison? We can't, just eat your food. I don't want to eat; I've lost my appetite. I'm going to go look for Maxwell, Madison said, getting up from the table. She went in the direction of the bathroom, sad not looking back at her mother.

When Madison was out of sight Seb turn to Mitchell and said, "Mitchell, don't you think it's time to let your ex know he has kids? The twins need their father at such a young age. They really need a father figure in their life.

Maybe you can invite him out, have a peaceful talk, and decide together how to go about it. What do you think?

Seb no, no, no! That's never going to happen, okay?" Mitchell replied, visibly upset.

It can happen, Seb said calmly. "I think it's for the best.

Mitchell's emotions escalated. "I'm starting to regret coming back. I should have just stayed in the state. Oh my God..."

Seb attempted to soothe her. "Mitchell, calm down, okay? It's just a simple talk. Don't get all worked up over nothing. If you're not ready to tell him, then it's okay."

You can't just say it's a simple talk. You don't understand. What if he decides to take my babies away from me? What will I do? He's wealthier and more powerful than me. I'll be helpless. I just can't risk that.
