At the edge of the forest area, where the rugged mountain terrain met the dense underbrush, stood a boy, tall and lean. His sharp features were framed by tousled dark hair, and his piercing red eyes scanned the horizon with an intensity that belied his age. This boy is Theros Nightcrest, One and only heir of Nightcrest family.
Theros leaned against a boulder, his gaze fixed on the distant mountains as a chilling wind swept down from the peaks. The announcement from the system echoed through the mountain range: Student Samuel Drakewill has claimed the first, second, and third kills.
A slight smirk touched Theros's lips. Samuel never misses a chance to make an entrance, he mused, shaking his head. There was something almost predictable about Samuel's behavior like, his hunger for dominance.
"Seems he's already getting started," Theros murmured to himself. He knew Samuel's style well. Flashy, efficient, and relentless. Samuel liked to make a statement, and that was that whoever you are however powerful you become if you are at his rank or a rank above, you will always be beneath him.
As the system notification faded, Theros turned his attention back to the map interface in his mind's eye, noting where Samuel's location could be, they'd often discussed strategy, but he'd always had to steer Samuel away from recklessness, only for Samuel to charge in anyway, as if the opponent is nothing but a toy for his amusement. Theros, however, preferred something subtler—analyzing every movement and knowing exactly where his steps would lead before, he took them.
He glanced around. The mountain terrain was littered with the occasional twisted tree and jagged rock formations, and the sharp shadows cast by the afternoon sun hid potential ambush points. His next move would be to get to Samuel—because where Samuel went, something interesting always happen.
This is Samuel we're talking about; he will kill more than 30 student the time I reach him Theros thought.
As he was more than halfway through where he could see Samuel in distance 'playing' with group of four student, and saw two students trailing after him Hm... these fools think they can get a chance to kill him if they follow him if they know that he could already sense them they will be scared as shit.
"Thinking of going after him?" he asked, closing behind them.
One of them, a boy with a hastily drawn sword, looked startled. "Who are you" after looking at Theros he spoke again "Maybe… it's not like he's unbeatable, right? I mean, he's just a guy."
"Sure, he's just a guy who took down three people just in few minutes after the start of test and he probably kill more while you are following him, did you both seeing any scratch on his body. You might want to think twice about running into his path."
The other student, a girl with a wary look in her eyes, narrowed her gaze. "And you? You are Theros Nightcrest Aren't you on the same level as him?"
Theros smiled faintly, shrugging. "Maybe or maybe not. But I know enough to pick my fights wisely." He met her gaze, voice dropping to a low murmur. "And I know Samuel well enough to stay one step back."
They exchanged a look before running away, as they were about to ran away swiftly appear in front of them and swiftly kill the girl with his spear seeing this the boy ran away in other direction but before he can go far Theros throw his spear which hit the back impaling him.
After killing both of them he turned his attention back toward the direction of Samuel, "he killed them all, and from the look of it he already guesses that I was coming that why he didn't kill those two he was saving them for me" after saying this Theros move toward Samuel and reached him.
"Theros," Samuel greeted looking at him. "Here to watch the show?"
"More like here to stop you from killing everyone and disqualifying everyone," Theros replied dryly, crossing his arms. "Three kills already at in just few min, and probably you would have killed more 30 no 40 more.
"57" Samuel said. "Wow I am not even surprise at that, happened to when you say to grandma that you will do this at ease?"
Samuel's smirk at Theros. "Where's the fun in that? You know me—I don't do 'easy.' Besides, these students could use a lesson or two in real combat."
Theros sighed, the trace of a smile flickering on his face. "You know, not everyone sees this as a fun game to most getting in academy is everything and your recklessness can take that away this chance from them.."
Samuel waved him off, glancing back at his map. "Reckless? That's your problem, Theros. You pity other too much." He chuckled. "Sometimes, all it takes is a little fear to make them understand who's at the top and they forgot about their goal, and they never try again so it better if people like them don't attend the academy."
Theros shook his head. "Maybe. But don't come crying to me if you end up on the wrong side of grandma mana blast because you decided to take it too far."
Samuel's laughter was deep and genuine, "yes man last time was pretty terrifying I almost died."
Theros watched him with an amused expression. Despite Samuel's arrogance, he could see the determination in his friend's stance—the drive that propelled him forward. It was part of what had always set Samuel apart, even from the other prodigies at SOL Academy.
"Fine," Theros said, relenting. "But I'll stick close. Just in case you run into someone who might make it… interesting and you don't disqualify them."
He nodded. "Suit yourself. Let's see what kind of 'interesting thing' we can find."
Together, they set off into the forest, side by side—one calculating, the other relentless.
