Late at night.
Returning from a mission, Kurenai had just entered her room when an unsettling chill ran down her spine.
She instinctively heightened her senses, but within moments, a shadowy figure appeared before her. Without a second thought, she threw several shuriken.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
In the blink of an eye, her shuriken missed their target. Just as Kurenai was about to charge forward with a kunai in hand, the masked figure formed a single-hand seal.
Genjutsu: Infinite Darkness Jutsu!
In the next instant—
Kurenai found herself plunging into darkness, her entire field of vision swallowed as though someone had stripped away her sight.
"What is this?"
Her expression shifted drastically. "A Genjutsu?"
Though the room was dim, Kurenai was an elite ninja, battle-hardened and possessing the keen eyes of a seasoned warrior.
Yet suddenly, her surroundings were so dark that she couldn't even see her own hands—it had to be Genjutsu. And Genjutsu was her specialty.
"Release!" She formed a seal, focusing her chakra to dispel the illusion.
But—
Nothing changed.
The blackness remained, shrouding her sight entirely.
"How…how is this possible?"
Kurenai was shaken. Although her years of experience had honed her skills, she was still young and couldn't help feeling a wave of panic as cold sweat trickled down her back.
She tightened her grip on the kunai, remaining vigilant. "Could this be the Second Hokage's A-rank Genjutsu, the Infinite Darkness Jutsu?"
"Hehe, Kurenai-neechan…did I scare you?"
Just then, the shadowy figure lifted his disguise.
With a snap of his fingers, the darkness vanished, restoring the room to normal.
Stopping just short of more teasing, the figure revealed himself to be Kiyoshi, his mischievous smile breaking Kurenai out of her tense state.
"Kiyoshi?"
Relieved but annoyed, Kurenai gritted her teeth, glaring at him with both frustration and a touch of anger. "Why is it you?"
"I waited up late for you, Kurenai-nee. You were taking so long, so I thought I'd have a little fun, hehe…"
Kiyoshi jumped forward, hugging Kurenai and planting a playful kiss on her cheek.
"Don't be mad so mad neechan."
"I almost had a heart attack because of you!"
Kurenai rolled her eyes.
The scare had left her drenched in sweat, and if it weren't for her familiarity with him, she might've suspected someone else using a Transformation Jutsu to trick her.
But his easy, affectionate manner was unmistakably Kiyoshi.
"How did you learn the Infinite Darkness Jutsu of the Second Hokage?" she asked, surprised.
Internally, she couldn't help but laugh wryly. She had once been praised as a rare Genjutsu talent in the village. Yet tonight, she had been outplayed by an eight-year-old.
The Infinite Darkness Jutsu was no ordinary illusion. It was an A-rank jutsu that robbed the target of their vision, creating an advantageous battleground.
Most shinobi couldn't even dispel it. But this only highlighted Kiyoshi's astonishing talent in Genjutsu—he had managed to master such a high-level technique.
"This Genjutsu was in a scroll Grandma gave me yesterday. She said it was a gift from her mother, when she got married."
Leaning comfortably against Kurenai's back, Kiyoshi spoke freely.
"Senju Toka? The legendary Genjutsu master?" Kurenai's eyes widened in shock.
When she was young, she had heard her father mentioning a powerful Genjutsu master from the Senju clan whom even the Uchiha held in high regard—Senju Toka.
Her illusions were so powerful that even the Uchiha's Sharingan had difficulty seeing through them.
"So that's your great-grandmother."
Realization dawned on Kurenai, though she quickly regained her composure.
With a swift motion, she pulled Kiyoshi off her back, her gaze fixed intently on him.
"Wait, are you saying you learned the Infinite Darkness Jutsu in just one night?"
"Yep…"
Kiyoshi nodded, recalling his training with the wood clones the previous day. "It's a powerful A-rank jutsu—but its difficulty was no joke."
Compared to B, C, and D-rank Genjutsu, A-rank techniques demanded much more effort. Each one took significant energy to master.
Especially the sound-based A-rank Genjutsus, which he had only barely managed to grasp in a single night. He'd still need more practice to wield it effectively.
"…"
Kurenai stared at him, her expression darkening.
Looking at Kiyoshi's casual, somewhat smug expression, she felt a twitch of annoyance.
She knew he was gifted, but this was almost unfair.
An A-rank Genjutsu, mastered in one night. The Genjutsu talent she had once prided herself on felt like nothing in his presence. It was…a bit of a blow to her pride.
"Here, Kurenai-neechan. This is for you."
Noticing the slight defeat in her expression, Kiyoshi feigned innocence and handed her a scroll like it was a precious treasure.
"This is…"
Seeing the scroll he offered, Kurenai's eyes widened.
"It's a gift for you, neechan."
