Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

The room was quiet, save for the faint hum of divine energy radiating from Samuel's body. The young angel lay motionless, a faint white halo encircling him, glowing softly as though alive. Around him, the light pulsed in rhythmic waves, growing brighter with every moment. It was mesmerizing, almost hypnotic, but Ramiel's sharp eyes didn't waver.

Her feathered wings twitched with unease as she watched the scene unfold before her. She stood at the far end of the chamber, her golden armor catching the light and reflecting it in ethereal patterns across the walls. Her once-calm expression betrayed a rare flicker of uncertainty.

"Ramiel."

The voice echoed in her mind, ancient and powerful, forcing her to her knees. She gasped, the overwhelming presence making her entire being tremble. A swirling golden light descended into the room, coalescing into the radiant form of an archangel. His mere presence shifted the air, commanding reverence without uttering a word.

"My lord," Ramiel whispered, bowing her head low. Her fiery red hair spilled across her shoulders, a stark contrast to her gleaming armor.

The archangel's voice was calm, yet its weight carried infinite authority. "You've been assigned to oversee Samuel, but his path is delicate. Do you understand the gravity of this task?"

Ramiel hesitated for a moment, her emerald eyes flickering with doubt. "I do. But there is something about him… something I cannot yet fathom. The light that surrounds him—it's unlike anything I've seen. What is he meant for?"

The archangel's golden gaze remained fixed on her. "That is not for you to know yet, but you must keep a close watch. His destiny teeters on the edge of something far greater than you or I. Do not falter."

Ramiel nodded solemnly, though a knot of apprehension tightened in her chest. "I will not fail, my lord."

The archangel turned his gaze toward Samuel's unconscious form. "The light he has absorbed is shaping him. It will soon solidify—observe and ensure his transition is seamless. Should anything go awry…" His words trailed off, leaving an unspoken warning lingering in the air.

As quickly as he had appeared, the archangel dissipated into a burst of golden light, leaving Ramiel alone once more. She rose to her feet, her jaw tightening as she studied Samuel. "No pressure, right?" she muttered under her breath, her voice tinged with sarcasm.

Hours passed, the glow surrounding Samuel intensifying. The halo around his body began to shift, its once-fluid form hardening into a translucent shell. Ramiel watched in awe as the light took on the shape of an egg, its surface smooth and radiant.

"What in the heavens…" she murmured, stepping closer. She reached out hesitantly, her fingertips grazing the glowing shell. It was warm to the touch, pulsating faintly like a heartbeat.

Samuel's body was now fully encased, his features obscured by the brilliant light. The egg seemed alive, almost sentient, as if it were nurturing something deep within.

Ramiel frowned, her mind racing. This was no ordinary transformation—whatever Samuel was becoming, it was beyond her understanding. She thought of the archangel's warning, her unease growing by the second.

Then, the egg began to crack.

A faint fissure appeared along its surface, spreading like lightning across the shell. The glow intensified, filling the room with blinding light. Ramiel shielded her eyes, her wings instinctively flaring out as the energy surged.

When the light finally subsided, Ramiel cautiously lowered her arm. Her breath hitched as she took in the sight before her.

Samuel knelt on the ground, his body glistening with the remnants of the shell. His skin shimmered faintly, as if infused with the divine light he had absorbed. But what caught her attention were his wings—four of them.

Two large, fully grown wings stretched out behind him, their feathers pristine and glowing with a soft golden hue. Beneath them were two smaller wings, barely half-formed but pulsing with potential. Samuel's eyes fluttered open, revealing a brilliance that hadn't been there before.

He looked down at himself, confusion and awe mingling on his face. "What… what happened to me?"

Ramiel crossed her arms, her expression a mix of relief and exasperation. "You hatched, apparently. And now you have four wings. Care to explain how that works?"

Samuel blinked, clearly disoriented. "I… I don't know. The last thing I remember is absorbing the light. Then everything went dark."

Ramiel sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Of course. Why would you know anything? That would make my job too easy."

Samuel looked at her, his expression softening. "You've been watching over me, haven't you?"

"Yes," she replied curtly. "And now I'm apparently babysitting an anomaly."

He chuckled weakly, though his smile quickly faded as he noticed the seriousness in her gaze. "Is something wrong?"

Ramiel hesitated before speaking. "You're… different, Samuel. This isn't normal, even for an angel. Whatever you've become, it's tied to something much larger. And I've been ordered to keep a close eye on you."

Samuel frowned, his wings twitching slightly. "Larger? What does that mean?"

"I don't know," Ramiel admitted. "But I intend to find out."

For a moment, they stood in silence, the weight of their situation settling over them. Samuel flexed his wings experimentally, the smaller pair struggling to mimic the movements of the larger ones.

"This is going to take some getting used to," he muttered.

Ramiel allowed herself a small smirk. "You think?"

As she turned to leave the room, she paused, her expression softening. "Get some rest, Samuel. You're going to need it."

He nodded, watching as she disappeared through the doorway. Left alone, he stared at his reflection in the smooth, shimmering surface of the egg fragments.

"What am I becoming?" he whispered, the question hanging in the air like a prayer unanswered
