"Excuse me, doctor. Why can't she get blood from the blood bank?" The doctor gave the person who asked this question a once over, yet he still answered in utter condescension.
"There are real emergencies in the hospital at the moment. A fatal accident occurred earlier today, and there have been a lot of casualties. The victims are top priority. I don't have the luxury of time to waste on a person who couldn't keep her legs closed and later opts for an unsafe abortion."
The doctor didn't hesitate in the slightest, but rather made it clear that Roxanne wasn't his priority. An adulterous wife losing blood because of an unsafe abortion wasn't part of his worries.
Clearly, he would gladly wait to pronounce her dead when she finally crossed over to the other side.
"Since when do doctors have the right to judge their patients so blatantly? Tsk!" The stranger didn't hold back in attacking the doctor's poor ethics, causing him to bite his tongue unconsciously. The doctor didn't dare to retort, because he knew he would be digging his own grave if he did. Not just that, but he would be creating a problem he may not have the muscles to solve. The stranger wasn't factored in his calculations, anyway.
Noticing the doctor didn't have any plans of responding to him, the stranger asked carefully, "What's her blood group?" The doctor felt that the strange man finally asked something meaningful. He had no qualms about responding, anyway.
"O negative" Upon his response, Erin, Mace, and the stranger, all blurted out in shock,
"What!"
"What!"
"What!"
Everyone knew that O negative blood type was the rarest, and it wasn't usually available on demand. If anything were to go wrong, Roxanne's life could be in danger.
"I'm glad you understand the essence of the blood transfusion. Any other questions?" Upon taking in their reactions, the doctor could tell that everyone present was aware of the gravity of the situation.
"May I know the tests you already run on her?" The stranger asked once again, making Erin and Mace perk up their ears. They also wanted to know what informed the doctor's decision, as he was confident about his diagnosis. They didn't remember anyone carrying out any tests on Roxanne since they arrived. D
"None. I don't need to run any tests to know she's having an abortion." That said, the doctor walked away, caring about nothing that the group had to say next. After all, Roxanne has already been abandoned by her husband and backer, Sebastian Sinclair.
"Shit!"
With their attention now on the stranger who kept questioning the doctor, they thought he could come up with something, but he rather cussed out loud, startling Erin and Mace.
With the stranger rushing into the room, they followed suit, only to notice that Roxanne was just lying weakly on the bed, with no one attending to her.
Even her bloody white dress was still on her body. It was safe to say that no attempt was made to save her life since they arrived at the hospital. However, the two aides noticed the doctor spending so long in the ward that they thought he was doing something to save her.
"It's weak, but I can feel a pulse." The stranger mumbled to himself, as the two aides of Roxanne watched him move around her body with so much familiarity.
"Bring the chopper to the Saint City General Hospital in the next sixty seconds." The man then threw his phone onto the bed as he tried to keep Roxanne alive till his people arrived.
It was as if Mace and Erin were tasked to be the timekeepers, but in exactly forty-five seconds, they heard the stranger's phone ring, and the conversation that played out didn't go unheard either.
"Come to the emergency ward with the oxygen mask and... Be discreet." As he finished dishing out the order into the phone, he turned to Mace and ordered, "Check from the front desk. I want to know if she has been recorded into the system."
Mace didn't like the command he was given, but he rushed off to do the man's bidding. He could tell the stranger had no ill intent toward his boss.
"Boss!"
A few men in black suddenly rushed to the ward with a stretcher and an oxygen mask.
The stranger's expression was unreadable, but the men who arrived could tell that he was at the point of exploding.
Suddenly, the movable oxygen mask was connected to Roxanne, and a few injections were administered at once.
Many items were brought out in the span of a few seconds, but none of them made any sense to Erin. She was no doctor, but she could tell that there was something strange about the devices being connected to Roxanne's body.
"Move her!" The stranger ordered as soon as Roxanne was strapped to the stretcher. Everything happened within a span of about two minutes, and Erin couldn't help hanging her jaw in an 'O' shape.
The stranger's movements were nimble and mind-blowing. Erin had never spotted any doctor being so fast, yet so precise.
"She hasn't been booked." Mace spoke from behind the group of men in black, and the stranger nodded without saying another word.
Everyone was soon in the elevator headed for the rooftop, and that was when the snobbish doctor from earlier arrived with a group of interns, only to see Roxanne being moved without informing anyone.
"I want you all to experience first hand how a person's body transitions from immediate death to what we'll see later. This patient is already gone, and she's just left with the doctor's declaration. I'll leave a few of you to monitor the body for the next few hours before we transfer her to the morgue..."
The group could hear the doctor's words from afar, and this caused the veins on the stranger's forehead to pop out in anger. Hence, when the group got to the elevator and saw the team heading their way, no one bothered to speak to the doctor.
"Where are you taking the patient?" The doctor looked scared and panicked, and those emotions didn't go unnoticed by all the people there. Even the desperation he tried to hide in his voice was picked up by their sharp ears.
"She's already dead. You should know better, shouldn't you?" The stranger had a beautiful smile on his face which could charm any lady. However, the men around him could tell that it was merely the calm before the storm.
The doctor didn't dare to refute the stranger's words. He also knew better than to drag the issue any further. What made him more unsettled was that the men in black covered the patient's face, hence, he couldn't see anything apart from the people holding the stretcher.
"Go home." The stranger's words were brief, but Erin and Mace knew the words were for them.
"You can't just…" The stranger's sharp look quickly silenced Mace, who unconsciously swallowed all the grievances in his heart.
If he said anything, the snobbish doctor would know Roxanne was still alive. However, he didn't wish to allow the man and his companions to take Roxanne away. What would they tell the boss?
Then again, if the men didn't take Roxanne, they were certain she wouldn't make it. Even at that point, Sebastian wasn't picking his calls.
"Tell your boss she's dead." Those were the stranger's final words before the elevator door closed.
"Boss, the madam is dead." Mace texted, waiting for a response afterwards, but nothing came.
After hurrying away from his students, the doctor locked himself in his office and spoke undertone, hoping to avoid every prying ear.
"Madam, it's done. I'll issue her death certificate soon."
