Chapter 162 - Chapter 1444: Falsely Connecting to the Infinite Sea

"The Great Dao of heaven and earth, reflected in a single thought. However, a projection is merely a projection. Utilizing the Dao's power in reality isn't easy."

"Connecting to the infinite ocean, with its endless energy supply, makes it possible."

The projection of the Dao provided the theoretical framework, while the infinite ocean provided the power.

"Either one alone grants power far beyond the ordinary. Combining the two…"

Clad in the immortal skin, his divine sense reflecting the Dao, Li Fan looked at Supreme Bliss City, feeling he could reduce it to ashes with a wave of his hand.

It wasn't an illusion.

"I have a feeling I've barely scratched the surface of the infinite ocean's potential."

"The infinite ocean rivals even the Great Dao of heaven and earth…"

Li Fan narrowed his eyes, summoning immortal spiritual energy to his fingertip, his consciousness immersing itself in the wondrous infinite ocean.

Unfortunately, the fragmented memories within the immortal skin only contained the previous owner's experiences, not their techniques or divine abilities.

"I wonder if devouring the skin with the Azure Underworld Pearl would allow me to extract those techniques?"

"After all, they were a Nameless Immortal…"

Though fleeting, the thought lingered, and he made a mental note to try it later.

Another year passed quickly.

Li Fan grew increasingly familiar with the immortal spiritual energy within the skin.

But then, he encountered a bottleneck.

No matter how many times he wore the skin, seemingly transforming the immortal spiritual energy into his own, the moment he removed it, his familiarity reverted to the previous level, unable to progress further.

"It seems I was too optimistic. Scholar Zhu wouldn't have lent me the immortal skin without some form of restriction."

Li Fan chuckled, but he didn't abandon his pursuit of immortal spiritual energy.

"If heaven won't give it to me, I'll take it myself…" A glint flashed in his eyes.

Within the Xuanhuang World, Li Fan's true body stroked a stone tablet—the key to ascension from the Immortal Realm's Ascension Platform.

Though merely a replica left by the Profound Heaven King, a faint power still lingered.

"If I'm not mistaken, this tablet contains the method for newly ascended immortals to connect to the infinite ocean and obtain immortal spiritual energy."

"However, it requires authorization from the Immortal Realm."

"Even the Profound Heaven King, despite ascending, couldn't obtain immortal spiritual energy from this tablet. The one who controlled the Ascension Platform had already perished. Without the Immortal Realm's guidance, it was useless…"

Li Fan called this tablet the [Dao Key]. Only a corresponding True Immortal inscription could activate its true function.

"Besides the inscription, another method is likely needed to unlock the connection to the infinite ocean."

Li Fan pondered.

His divine sense projection in the Shuo Star Sea donned the immortal skin. A wisp of immortal spiritual energy, channeled through his miniature Dao Net, instantly reached his true body.

However, having traversed the Star Sea, it was significantly weakened, its faint starlight now a milky white.

Moreover, without the immortal skin, Li Fan's true body wasn't its master.

The moment it arrived, the immortal spiritual energy thrashed like a wild horse, trying to escape.

Li Fan focused his mind, using his hard-earned familiarity with the energy as a reins, barely managing to control it.

The surrounding formations and the immortal spiritual energy from the Dissociation Disc aided in subduing it.

After much effort, he finally gained control.

"Now, I'll use this immortal spiritual energy to disguise myself."

"And access the infinite ocean through the Dao Key."

Though his goal was clear, achieving it wouldn't be easy. Even the Profound Heaven King had failed.

The first challenge was activating the tablet.

Using formations as tools, Li Fan divided the immortal spiritual energy from his divine sense projection into millions of fragments for experimentation.

Simply touching the tablet with the energy only produced a faint glow, then nothing. It seemed to be waiting for Li Fan's next move.

Recalling the process of using the Dao Key to help the Xuanhuang World ascend, he knew a True Immortal inscription was required.

"Could it be the Transformation of Immortal and Mortal inscription again?"

With a thought, he used a fragment of immortal spiritual energy to inscribe the character on the tablet.

A powerful energy surged from the tablet. But after searching for a suitable target and finding none, it dissipated.

Eliminating this option, Li Fan continued experimenting, testing all the True Immortal inscriptions he knew.

It didn't take long.

Unfortunately, none worked.

"It must be an unknown inscription."

Li Fan frowned.

Unable to access the infinite sea himself, he turned his attention to Scholar Zhu.

Directly asking was out of the question. It would not only expose him but also potentially alert the Governing Council.

His divine sense projection, while continuing to familiarize itself with immortal spiritual energy, waited for an opportunity.

Soon, only seven days remained before the Immortal Hunter recruitment.

The Governing Council's announcement stated they were recruiting twice the usual number, sparking both excitement and apprehension throughout the Shuo Star Sea.

The increased recruitment meant a higher chance of acceptance.

But it also meant heavy losses during recent Immortal Hunts, highlighting the inherent risks of the position, despite its immense power.

Regardless, becoming an Immortal Hunter was the ultimate aspiration for young cultivators. Countless individuals applied.

Within Supreme Bliss City, Li Fan received a message from Scholar Zhu.

"In seven days, as promised, I will recommend you for the selection process."

"However, as agreed, I must first test you!"

Li Fan straightened his clothes and entered the City Lord's Mansion.

He pushed open the door, but instead of finding Scholar Zhu, he stepped into nothingness, falling into an endless abyss.

Surrounded by darkness, he plummeted downwards, occasionally glimpsing points of light embedded within the abyss's walls.

Scholar Zhu's booming voice echoed in his ears.

"The Immortal Hunter trials prioritize comprehension of the Dao Net."

"The points of light you see represent Dao Net commands. Try to replicate them."

"This is the first trial. If you fail…"

"You'll never leave!"

Scholar Zhu's cackle reverberated through the abyss.

Li Fan ignored him, focusing on the flickering Dao Net command lights.

The endless fall continued, flight and levitation techniques inexplicably useless.

Each command flashed by too quickly to observe and replicate.

Fortunately, Li Fan possessed a miniature Dao Net projection within his divine sense.

Like a screen, his divine sense captured the fleeting lights. If a corresponding command existed within his Dao Net, it would flicker in response. If not, it would be ignored.

He didn't need to consciously identify and replicate the commands. His miniature Dao Net did it for him, its speed and accuracy far surpassing his own.

With each successful replication, Li Fan felt a sudden tug, slowing his descent.

As more lights were replicated, permanently illuminating the abyss above, his fall finally stopped.

The darkness receded. He found himself on a desolate plain, a figure standing before him.

Though unfamiliar, the figure's aura felt familiar.

It was Scholar Zhu!

"The second trial tests your martial prowess," Scholar Zhu's voice echoed.

"Immortal Hunters hunt True Immortals."

"Are you… capable?"

Before the words faded, Scholar Zhu pointed a finger at Li Fan.

"True Immortals wield the Great Dao and command infinite power."

The boundless plain curled inwards, trapping Li Fan within.

It wasn't just the ground rising, but all the laws of heaven and earth, converging upon him, as if he were facing the entire world!

Li Fan's expression remained unchanged. He didn't don the immortal skin.

Instead, countless arms sprouted from his back, each rapidly writing something.

With each completed inscription, a point of light appeared before him.

Gradually, these points formed a net.

Li Fan pressed his hands against the net, plucking its strings like a musician.

With each pluck, a section of the encroaching plain vanished.

The relentless plucking continued, tearing holes in the collapsing world until it posed no threat.

He returned to the dark void, facing Scholar Zhu.

Scholar Zhu stared at the miniature Dao Net before Li Fan, a thoughtful expression on his face.

"With your current strength, joining the Immortal Hunters is more than sufficient."

"However… I still need to test your limits!" He sneered.

Dark clouds, accompanied by thunder, surged from the void, enveloping Li Fan.

Within these black clouds, he saw countless imposing figures.

"These are my former servants."

"Let me see what you can do."

Scholar Zhu vanished.

Grotesque figures, like a tidal wave, emerged from the black clouds, charging towards Li Fan.

He stood motionless, seemingly frozen in fear.

The immortal creations showed no mercy.

Just as they reached him…

"Disperse!" Li Fan commanded softly.

The countless figures froze, then, along with the black clouds, vanished into nothingness.

Scholar Zhu reappeared, staring at Li Fan in disbelief.

"I, too, once commanded countless servants. What do you think, Scholar Zhu?" Li Fan smiled faintly.

As he spoke, more dark clouds gathered, figures swirling within.

They were the immortal servants he had just dispersed!

But now, they served Li Fan, turning on Scholar Zhu.

"Insolent!" Scholar Zhu roared.

The void seemed to buckle, as if struck by an invisible force, annihilating everything within the affected area.

A series of sickening crunches echoed as countless beings were crushed.

The creatures attacking Scholar Zhu were quickly eliminated.

But compared to Li Fan's effortless dispersal, his method was crude.

Li Fan didn't summon more servants, simply smiling at him.

"Interesting. Very interesting."

"I believe you'll surprise them."

"You may go."

After a long stare, Scholar Zhu finally spoke.

Li Fan's surroundings shifted. He returned to the City Lord's Mansion, standing before the unopened door.

He bowed slightly, then turned and left.

"Trapped within Supreme Bliss City for so long, how could he still command these immortal servants?"

"If he hadn't summoned them, I wouldn't have seen through the illusion."

"It's merely a realistic illusion, similar to an Eternal Remnant. Against such an illusion, even a powerful being like Evil Su Bai wouldn't be a match for me, let alone a crippled, mortalized True Immortal."

Li Fan sneered, returning to his residence.

His next step was infiltrating the Immortal Hunters and uncovering the Shuo Star Sea's deepest secrets.

"That trial was essentially a clash of wills and Dao comprehension."

"Though I gained the upper hand with the [Transformations of Truth and Falsehood], his ability to crush with invisible force shouldn't be underestimated."
