Chapter 17 - Killing a monster

Luan stood up and walked towards one of the trees in the area, then picked up his blade.

Of course, the monster could've tried to stop him, but there was an aura around Luan that made it think twice about what it wanted to do.

The human felt… different.

What he thought as an utter weakling before, was now giving it a faint sense of danger.

It was faint, but it was there all the same.

This hadn't happened before.

Therefore, it decided to be cautious.

Luan picked up his austere blade with a grin as he clearly felt the movement of mana in his body.

Before, he had only vaguely felt the miniature cores in his body, but now, he could 'see' them very clearly.

There were nine miniature cores that connected to different parts of his body– his brain, spine, lungs, muscles, bloodstream and his limbs.

When he was absorbing mana earlier, he had filled all mine cores to the brim, but now, the cores in his lungs and his bloodstream were empty.

Totally empty.

In his moment of desperation, Luan had managed to move his mana and use it the way he wished due to the fact that the mana in his cores were pure.

He felt that if the mana in his miniature cores was coloured, he wouldn't have been able to do what he did.

He wouldn't have been able to heal himself.

As he stood in place, he felt the mana in his body move according to his wishes.

'So this is how mana is used… I feel so powerful already, and I'm just a beginner…

'I can't help but admire the people who have managed to use mana for years. They're practically invincible to children like me.'

Luan raised his head and met the gaze of the monster that had made him despair and gain an epiphany at the same time.

Then, he moved.

He felt the mana in his legs rotate and flow unimpeded as his speed reached new heights. Any other person would take a while to get used to such speed, but the mana in the other parts of his body worked perfectly in tandem.

Mana flowed to his brain, enhancing his reactions and perception. This, in turn, made the speed Luan was running at seem perfectly normal to him.

In an instant, Luan had reached 15 metres near the monster.

At that point, Luan paused before shifting his weight and jumping to the side.

A split second later, numerous spikes of earth erupted from the ground with the intent to turn him into a pincushion, but he was already moving once more.

Once his foot landed ten metres from the monster, he felt the ground sink beneath his feet, making him lose his stable footing.

He tried to jump, but felt the ground harden over his legs, making him stuck in place.

A frantic expression appeared on his face as he tried to free himself to no avail, making the amusement that had previously disappeared in the monster's eyes to return.

It walked slowly towards Luan, making sure that it hardened the earth around his legs as it walked forward.

Then, it stopped right in front of Luan, who had an expression of fear mixed with regret and resentment on his face.

The monster looked at the two spots where it had pierced Luan before smirking.

The human may had healed itself, but it was going to use this to show the human what absolute strength was…

By piercing the same places.

This time, it also wouldn't rele… sse it… slow… l…y...…?

Luan grunted, breaking free of the earthen floor that stuck him in place. Then, he flung his sword downwards before abruptly stopping, causing blue blood to splatter on the ground.

He gingerly made his way to the headless lump of silver meat whose neck was still spewing out a fountain of blue blood and stepped past it, not wanting to be drenched.

After ten minutes, when he had sheathed the austere blade and dried his tunic, the blood finally stopped.

Luan inspected the hulking mass of meat that would most likely feed him for months, but fell into a dilemma when it came to how he would transport it.

He looked around for a while before his eyes fell on the vines that hung from the tall trees.

Then, he cupped his chin.

'A makeshift basket shouldn't be hard to weave within three hours. Also…'

He kicked the corpse, causing it to topple over.

'...it isn't even half as heavy as before.'

Luan climbed the nearest trees and sliced two vines off them before turning the sliced vines into flat strips that still retained their tensile strength.

Then, he got to weaving.

Flashbacks of his mom hitting his head in order to teach him what he was doing appeared in his mind, causing him to chuckle.

Eventually, he finished what he was doing two hours later.

He cut the monster boar into the same proportions as the one he killed before, then proceeded to cut everything in half again.

He flung the basket over his shoulder and proceeded towards the temple.

In two hours, the temple where he had spent his day came into view, then he entered, dropped the basket containing the monster's meat.

After checking and confirming that there were no anomalies, he walked into the recovery pool and…

He fell asleep.
