Chapter 54 - 53rd entry

Season: Autumn

Weather: the autumn heatwave continues.

Day of the week: Tuesday

Date: 16th April, 2024

I spent all of today in interviews and meetings with the police detectives and other related people. The Captain came to meet me too and seemed relieved to see that I was fine. He still caught me up in a big bear hug and told me to take care of myself. He asked me to stay in touch after exchanging mobile phone numbers with me.

The dark shadow lord also came into the precinct for interviews and meetings. He didn't just give me a hug, but a kiss on the cheek as well. He was his usual larger than life self that could melt into the shadows with the snap of his fingers.

"You'd better look after my girl," he pointed a finger at Deaglan. "If she's in danger again or if you make her unhappy, I'm taking her home with me. She was engaged to me first."

"You guys were kids at the time," Deaglan protested. "It doesn't count. Besides, I'm going to marry her. As soon as she says yes, we're going to get a marriage certificate. I'm not going to wait to organise a big wedding, just in case someone comes to interrupt us."

"Then call me as a witness. I want to be there so that I can threaten you to the point you wet your pants before you exchange vows," Umbrey laughed. "Dinky-di, show me how tough you can be as a man."

"Guys, I haven't even known Deaglan for a month and you're already talking about marriage?" I complained.

"If he doesn't marry you, I will," Umbrey turned his nose up. "And if neither of us two do, Llewyn or your Stony Boss might step in. And if none of us marry you, I'm sure there'll still be someone else. You're a real gem. A treasure, my little bunny. We have to snatch you up before someone else does."

"This doesn't make any sense," I grumbled to myself.

Boys and men had never paid any attention to me before. It had always been Bezel that got all the attention. So I still couldn't fathom how and why any men would be attracted to me. I was nobody. Nothing. Plain. Ordinary. What had happened or changed such that they had suddenly noticed me now?

The reality that there were people who cared about me was still creeping in. I hadn't gotten to the point of love yet.

Slow down, guys. I'm not there yet. I'm not ready. Slow down.
