"You saw nothing. Whatever you saw- I was not crying. If you tell anyone about this I'll ruin your commoner life and bully you till you decide life is not worth living anymore." She grips onto my shoulder weakly, just enough to scare me I think.
I nod, choosing my next words and actions carefully.
I stare at her face, makeup ruined and looked like she was crying in here for hours."..."
"...?"
I reach over to my pockets and she eyes my hands as it travels over there. The silence between us was heavy, it doesn't help that our position was tight and if anyone saw us in here they would think... something else was going on.
"I... just... wanted to give you this, milady." I give her my handkerchief and she eyes it suspiciously. "I couldn't help but hear your crying, I just wanted to return the broom. I promise, I won't tell anyone about what happened today."I softly smile at her and soon she relaxes taking the handkerchief that I offered. The villainess says nothing, and I understand that might still be shaken up. I move over to the broom that fell to the floor placing it back where it should be.
She sat back into the corner of the storage room, even if the floor was dusty she sat down.
I wanted to accompany her, so I sat down next to her saying nothing. I waited for her to talk but she first fixes herself before looking away rather guiltily.
"He loves you more than me."Finally she talks to me.
"Who, milady?""Don't play dumb. The crown prince has been eyeing you all this time or are you daft?" She insults me as tears started running down on her cheeks again. "You know what he told me today in private? That he wanted to announce to the public that what we have is over. He's going to propose to you this week at the academy's banquet."
"Uh-huh." I replied, casually knowing what was going to happen. At this point I was always two steps ahead from the plot of the book. I know what to do in order not to trigger the events that will make the love interest fall in love with me but it seems fate still wants us to get together."Why is that your only reply? The crown prince is in love with you- that is... that is everything any other girl could dream of." She tells me and I urge myself to not let out a chuckle.
I place my back against the wall, staring at the villainess who I am sure have her purpose set out to only love one man by the book. "Well it's not my dream, milady. Have you ever thought how I felt?"
She blinked rather confusedly, "...you are not interested in him?"
"Yes, I am not interest in him." I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony. The villainess looked beautiful even in ruined makeup and all of that messy strips of hair being loose.
I held out my hand to tuck out her hair behind her ear, hoping that maybe just once- I could tease the villainess before I move on with my plan. "I'm more interested in cute crybabies sitting in storage rooms."
"You-!"Her reddened face as expected was a treat to see.I immediately apologized but at least she no longer looked sad. "I'm kidding. Still you need not to worry, I don't like him. If he plans on announcing his feelings towards me then I will reject him."
"But- he's the crown prince.""And he cannot force me to love him."
"Just like you cannot force him to love you. It may not be my place, milady but truly I know you deserve better than him." I take something out of my pocket giving it to the villainess. I was hoping to save it for later but she could use it more than me. "When I feel sad I eat candy, the sweetness just melts some of your problems for a while. I hope you can find someone else who will truly love and care for you till you're old and grey.""...I-""I have to get going, milady and I promise what happened today. I will only keep it to myself."
I got out of the storage room without looking back, I hope that our paths cross again... this time not as enemies but just as friends in the future. When I run away from the plot that is.
...I was busy doing one of our assignments, being a commoner in a new world put me in a lot of struggle- the family of the heroine became my own and decided I would look after them for her sake.
Tap! Tap! Tap!But a shadow walks over to me and the moment I look up, the villainess was standing there surrounded by her lackeys- laughing and it looked like they were poking fun of me."Hey, you."
"...yes, milady?""Come with me."Everyone else who was in the room was looking over with curious eyes, seeing that I have no problem with it I decided to follow- but... seeing that this is the villainess I don't know what to expect. Especially right after what happened at the storage room, I did promise to keep quiet.
I was surprised at where she took me.Back to the storage room where I first saw her crying, but the thing is- the place was no longer dusty. Everything inside was furnished, new wallpapers were added and even a tea set- what in the world happened?
"Milady- um... what did you call me out here for?" I ask her, hiding the nervousness that I was feeling but I was met with an offer I could never refuse."How much... can I pay for your time for a day?"
