Chapter 18 - Elements

Elen lowered his hand with an annoyed look on his face. "This old man really doesn't have anything better to do all day, always causing trouble for students who are enthusiastic to learn."

Edward twitched his mouth upon hearing this. Since Elen was so good at his studies despite being mischievous, he couldn't even refute what he just said.

Alex also smiled. "Fine, fine. Ask the question you were going to ask, but this has to be the last question on this topic for now, alright?"

Elen nodded with a smile. "Okay, my question is simple. I've heard a lot about different royal families. If we all are people who have evolved over time into a common new species, why are they considered special?"

Alex looked at Elen deeply. "Little friend, you really are different. I don't think you're capable of catching this small detail from my story."

"What do you know? This is just the start. If you give him a few more chances to ask questions, he might even ask you to decode the working of the universe itself," Edward said while stroking his beard.

Alex smiled. "The answer to your question is simple. If others are descendants of common people from different worlds back then, royal families are the real descendants of gods themselves."

" since they are the descendants left behind by the gods in this world, these people have a high chance of awakening their god bloodlines and this might give them some advantages in cultivating divine essence compared to others."

Elen nodded, although he still had many doubts regarding this topic. Since Alex had said this would be the last question, he didn't ask any further.

but he had already noted Edward's name in his little account book. If he didn't cause any trouble for this old man, he wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully.

Edward looked at Elen, who was smiling sweetly at him, and felt a chill down his spine. "This brat is definitely plotting something against me again," he muttered to himself.

Alex continued his speech after once again looking around at the students in the hall. "Well, that was my advice to you all. Don't feel discouraged if you awaken only a single element or fail to awaken any. Just focus on yourself and keep moving forward. You can also become great people with hard work and dedication."

"Now, let's move on to the next topic: Elements. So, who can tell me about the two main types of elements?"

Joshua raised his hand. "Elements can be primarily divided into basic and advanced."

Alex nodded. "Yeah, you're correct. Elements can be divided into basic and advanced, but there's one more subclass in it that you missed, my friend."

"Taboo elements," Joshua said immediately.

Alex smiled at his quick response. "Correct. Now let's start our explanation, even though most of you might already be aware of it."

"Basic elements consist of fire, water, earth, wind, dark, and light elements. Among these, dark and light elements fall under a subcategory called basic taboo elements."

"First of all, these elements are called basic elements because they can give birth to other elements when certain conditions are met. Elements born from the basic elements are thus called advanced elements."

"Fire gives birth to the advanced element of lightning, water gives birth to ice, wind to aetherion, earth to wood, darkness to the advanced taboo element of space, and light gives birth to the advanced taboo element of time."

"Are you clear so far? Any doubts about what I've said?" Alex asked the students. When he saw no one raising their hands, he continued.

"Now let's move on to taboo elements. Taboo means something that is forbidden. The name itself is a little overbearing, right? Can anyone tell me why the elements of darkness, light, time, and space are considered forbidden?"

A little girl with two cute bands on her head raised her hand and said, "It's because they're more powerful than all the other elements."

Alex nodded. "Yeah, you can say so in simple terms. Except for aetherion which is considered a semi-taboo element because of its special characteristics, other elements like fire, lightning, earth, wood, wind, water, and ice are things that naturally exist in this world of Celestia and are very close to nature."

"But the taboo elements like darkness, light, space, and time are not something humans were ever supposed to control. These are forbidden powers that only gods were able to wield in ancient times."

"Also, just as our little friend mentioned, they are more powerful compared to other elements."

Another boy raised his hand when Alex paused. "Senior, why is aetherion considered a semi-taboo element?"

"Well, you have to know how aetherion is formed before I answer that question. When wind magic interacts with the different elemental divine essences at high altitudes, the divine essence becomes highly purified, giving birth to the aetherion element."

"The reason why it is considered a semi-taboo element is because of its unique characteristics of buffing or blessing other elements, which is not a characteristic of the wind element or related to it in any way."

"And due to this characteristic, aetherion is categorized as a semi-taboo element. After all, blessing someone is also a power unique to gods, right?"

Elen raised his hand with a frown on his face. "Why consider it a semi-taboo element and not a complete taboo element? After all, it is similarly powerful and unique like the taboo elements, right?"

"Well, there are two reasons for that. First, the basic element from which aetherion is born is not a taboo element. And secondly, in a sense, aetherion is much closer to nature, unlike the true taboo elements."

" You can simply see aetherion as an element that uses the wind element as a filter to remove impurities from other elements, thereby strengthening them or simply put, blessing them."

"The concept of aetherion is still too advanced for students at your level. You'll naturally learn more about this element as you progress to advanced classes." Alex said with a smile.
