Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Let Her Go

Gabrielle stared at Ansel, the wind blowing strands of hair in her face. He stared back at her, seeing blood stained on her dress. His veins ran cold.

"Ansel," She called out.

"Gabrielle," He called back out to her.

She took a step forward, quickly being grabbed on the arm by Zander.

"Let go out me," She shouted, trying to fight out of his grip.

Zander looked ahead, seeing Ansel and his men sitting at the bottom of the hill.

"Well it looks like you found us," Zander laughed, tightening his grip around her arm.

Ansel gritted his teeth, fire filling his eyes.

"Let her go," He roared.

"I don't think so, Your Majesty," Zander taunted, holding the broken bottle up to her neck, "I think I have something you want."

"If you hurt her, I'll kill you," He shouted, drawing his sword, "Let her go now."

"Oh Your Majesty, I struck a nerve didn't I," He laughed, digging the bottle into her neck.

She yelped, tears filling her eyes.

"If you know what's good for her, you won't follow us," Zander smirked, pulling her closer to him, "Now let's go, I have plans for you," He ran away with her, as she cried out for Ansel.

"Follow them," Ansel shouted, riding towards Zander and Gaberille as some of his men dismounted, running up the hill and the rest of his men followed behind him.

Zander made his way to the other side of the bottom of the hill to his brothers, gripping tightly on to Gabrielle's arm.

"Let go of me," She shouted, continuing to try to fight out of Zander's grip.

"Don't make me hurt you," Zander warned, pointing the broken bottle in her face.

He looked at his brothers, gritting his teeth.

"The guards are onto us, we need to move," Zander commanded.

"Listen, I don't think this is a good idea…"

Shoooo

An arrow flew, shooting Brucer in the chest, stopping him in the middle of his sentence.

Brucer's eyes widened, as he fell to the ground, he gasped for air.

"Brucer," Dom shouted, watching as Brucer reached out towards him.

Zander looked towards the hill, seeing the Royal Guards running towards them, he looked back at Dom.

"Leave the dead weight," Zander shouted, running away, forcing Gabrielle to run beside him.

Dom took off, following behind Zander, leaving Brucer to die.

"How could we leave him," Dom quavered.

"Oh shut up," Zander huffed, "He was dead weight anyways. The Royal Guards did us a favor killing him. He was always arguing with me, he was going to slow us down."

"But Zander, he's our brother, how can you,"

Zander turned around, looking at Dom.

"How many times do I have to tell you to shut up? Brucer was not our brother. He was a betrayer like Auggie and Vincent. Brothers have each other's back like how you have mine. Now come on. We have to get out of here. We can't let the guards take our prize away," Zander ordered, running away with Gabrielle, Dom trailing behind them.

Ba doom ba doom ba doom neeeeeeeeigh

They felt the ground rumble.

Zander looked behind him, seeing Ansel and his guards riding in the distance, starting to catch up.

"We have to lose them," Zander shouted, continuing to run.

"How," Dom yelled.

Shoooo, shooo

Arrows flew over their heads.

"Stop," Ansel bellowed.

Zander and Dom continued to run, dodging the arrows that were continuously shot at them.

Shoo shoo ARGH

An arrow pierced Dom's side, making him drop to the ground.

Zander looked back, seeing Dom looking up at him.

"Zander, help me," Dom cried out, reaching out to him.

Zander smiled, pulling Gabrielle closer to him.

"Thanks for the distraction," He laughed, continuing to run, dragging Gabrielle behind him.

Tears filled Dom's eyes, as he watched Zander disappear with Gabrielle in the distance.

Shoo

A Guard shot another arrow, hitting Dom in the back.

Dom face planted on the ground, his vision blurring, as he watched horses running around him. He shut his eyes.

Zander continued to run, coming across an open area, trees far off in the distance.

'There's nowhere to run,' His eyes widened.

He looked behind him, seeing Ansel and his men moving in.

He grabbed Gabrielle tightly, putting her in front of him. He held the broken bottle up to her neck.

Ansel and his men slowed down, surrounding Zander and Gabrielle, circling around them.

"Release her now," Ansel demanded.

"After you killed my brothers? No, you owe me, Your Majesty. I kept her safe for four days and you repay me by killing my family? I think you owe me," Zander snarled.

"I killed your family? No… Your foolishness did," Ansel scowled, dismounting off his horse, "Now let her go, or I can't promise you that your demise won't be horrifically painful."

"Threatening me while I have your supposed love," Zander grinning, digging the bottle into her neck, "It sounds like you don't care about your love. I think you were right. His Majesty does love Hattie over you."

Tears filled her eyes as she looked at Ansel, watching as veins popped out of his temple.

"You have three seconds to let her go or I'm breaking a knee cap," Ansel warned.

"You're mighty brave," Zander laughed, gripping her face, forcing her to look at Ansel.

Zander kissed her cheek, staring into Ansel's eyes, "She's such a sweet prize, I'll be sure to give her back for the right price," Zander taunted, continuing to kiss her cheek, "Oh and I'll be sure to have some fun. Seeing that you don't love her anyways. How can I pass up a sweet deal?"

"Three," Ansel snarled, waving his sword, singling a guard.

Shoooo

A guard shot an arrow, piercing Zander's knee cap.

Zander let go of Gabrielle, dropping to the ground in pain. He held his knee.

"You shot me," He groaned.

"Shield your eyes," Ansel muttered, looking at Gabrielle as he walked over to Zander

She covered her eyes, hearing Zander's shrieks. She turned away.

Silence filled the air, as she heard a sword be put away, and footsteps walking towards her.

She jolted, feeling an arm wrap around her shoulder, she turned around, uncovering her eyes, to see Ansel.

Her eyes widened, feeling Ansel wrap his other arm around her, holding on to her tightly.

"You're safe now," He soothed, as she buried her head into his chest, "You're safe."
