"Puff, puff…"
The monster's purple-black tentacles thrust forward, but instead of dodging or resisting, Reiki stood his ground.
"Ahhh…" The next moment, as the tentacles pierced through Reiki's body, he dissolved into a flurry of crows that scattered into the sky.
"This world is no longer the one you know," Reiki's voice echoed as the crows reassembled behind the demon. "Your mental power is formidable, enough to resist ordinary illusions. But you've forgotten one crucial detail: your current vessel is only human."
The demon turned, eyes wide in disbelief. "Impossible! Your illusion… it can trap my soul?"
Before the demon could react further, a blade pierced through its body.
"Now, I just need to destroy this vessel completely, and you'll have no body to return to," Reiki said, driving the sword deeper with each thrust. "Besides, you're already drained. You've lost."
One minute later, the possessed guard crumpled to the ground in defeat.
"Reiki, are you alright?" Shisui appeared, worry etched on his face. He had felt the powerful waves of genjutsu from afar and knew it was connected to the Sharingan.
"I'm fine. Focus on taking down more of the undead puppets to weaken the demon further. Leave the rest to Lady Maitreya," Reiki replied, looking at the fallen body with calm determination.
At first, Reiki had been apprehensive about facing the monster's assault. He hadn't anticipated the demon would resort to illusions, the one area where Reiki, equipped with the Tsukuyomi experience card, was unbeatable. After all, the Uchiha were the masters of genjutsu in the ninja world.
"Damn!" A surge of energy exploded from the corpse, its violent aura spreading rapidly.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" Shisui shouted, unleashing flames that rained down upon the demon, engulfing it.
"Blade Technique!" Hatake Sakumo joined in, his short sword glowing white as he slashed through the demon's chakra.
"Boom!" Nozuki followed up, smashing her fist down and driving the demon into the ground.
The three warriors stood by Reiki, ready for what came next. Reiki, exhausted from continuous treatment, knew he had done his part. Now, it was their turn.
"Reiki, insert the seal's mark into the demon's body!" Maitreya's voice echoed urgently in Reiki's ears.
"Understood," Reiki replied. "Uncle Sakumo, leave this part to me."
Reiki dashed through the lingering dust and mist, pressing his hand to the ground. A godly figure appeared behind him as he activated the seal.
"Fate Seal: Luo Tian!" Maitreya, free from the monster's grip, formed a series of hand signs and raised her hand, casting her unique sealing technique. A giant hand appeared, mirroring the one behind Reiki, and they clasped together, trapping the demon inside. A point of light sealed the area as the undead legions crumbled into fragments and disappeared.
"Did we win?" A young ninja dropped to the ground, exhaustion and disbelief on his face. He had only recently become a jounin, eager to test himself, never expecting a battle of this magnitude. He had prepared himself for death, and if not for Reiki, he would have likely met that fate.
"Yes, victory!" Shouts and cheers erupted among the ninjas. Despite the invigorating potion, the oppressive fear had lingered throughout the battle. Now, relief flooded them.
"Reiki, are you alright?" Nozuki asked, concern evident in her eyes. Reiki sat silently, taking a moment to catch his breath.
"I'm fine. There are still injured out there that need treatment. Let me recover a bit, then bring them over. Today's treatment is on the house," Reiki said with a smile before closing his eyes to rest.
Nozuki rolled her eyes playfully. "Shisui, he's definitely fine. Let's spread the word."
Maitreya, sitting on the ground, exhausted but triumphant, sensed a presence behind her.
"Maitreya, you know what must be done next," a low voice whispered.
"Yes…" Maitreya nodded, her expression serious. She stood, reinforcing the seal before leaving the battlefield.
Back at her residence, Maitreya felt a sense of unease. If she followed through with what was required, it could lead to significant consequences. Deep in thought, she made up her mind about what needed to be done.
By evening, Reiki and the others returned to Fengcheng. While the mission seemed straightforward, it had been anything but simple. Without Reiki's efforts, Maitreya might have managed to seal the demon, but at great cost. Thanks to him, there were zero casualties—an unheard-of outcome in such a battle.
"Reiki, Lady Maitreya requests your presence," one of her guards announced as Reiki arrived back at their quarters.
"Now?" Reiki asked, puzzled.
"Yes," the guard replied, making an inviting gesture.
Reiki nodded and followed. When he arrived at Maitreya's courtyard, he was surprised to find a meal waiting, with wine set to the side. Maitreya, though clearly fatigued, had prepared everything.
Reiki frowned in confusion. Why the elaborate setup? Maitreya should have been recovering, and the presence of wine was even more baffling. After all, she was pregnant, and he was barely eight years old. Something about this scene felt off.
