With the recent upgrade of his *Holy Hand of Benevolence*, Reiki noticed that the rewards in his surprise gift packages now often related directly to the treated person's characteristics. When treating someone from the Uchiha clan, for instance, he'd often receive spiritually attuned items, while working with someone like Might Guy yielded items beneficial to physical prowess.
"Now that I've planted seeds with the Uchiha, they'll likely seek me out again," Reiki thought. "No need to visit the Hyuga clan just yet… but I think I know the perfect place to gain more experience."
Having planned his next steps, Reiki spent the evening refining his chakra in preparation.
---
The following morning…
"You want to train the medical staff at the hospital?" Tsunade looked at Reiki, a bit baffled.
"Yes," Reiki confirmed, meeting her questioning gaze.
Medical ninjas usually gained experience through routine treatments and endless practice of medical ninjutsu. Special training wasn't typically part of the regimen.
"Teacher, how effective do you think it is to have medical ninjas embedded in combat teams?" Reiki asked.
"It's certainly beneficial. Medical support increases survival rates and helps ninjas recover quickly in the field," Tsunade replied, still trying to understand Reiki's line of questioning.
"Have you considered that medical ninjas are usually trained as pure support, but very few of them actually know how to protect themselves?" Reiki continued. "Not every medical ninja can reach your combat standards. Without self-defense capabilities, they become a liability."
Tsunade fell silent. She had based her ideas on her own high standards and overlooked that not every medical ninja could achieve her level of strength and combat experience. While Reiki was a uniquely talented fighter, most medical ninjas lacked combat readiness.
"I see," Tsunade said thoughtfully. "So, how are you planning to train them? Do you need my involvement?"
"Yes, I'd like you to lead the training," Reiki replied. "As your disciple, I'm too junior to lead this initiative. Some of the hospital's medical ninjas are your contemporaries or even older. It would be best if you initiated the training."
Tsunade nodded. "Alright. When do we start, and do you have a training plan?"
Reiki handed her a detailed schedule. "The hospital workload isn't too heavy right now, so most of it can be managed by the on-duty medical ninjas. I've arranged the training to minimize impact on hospital duties."
"Very well. Let's begin today. If this works, consider it rewarded," Tsunade said, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. She had always been committed to reducing casualties among the village's ninjas, and perhaps this training could make a real difference.
---
When they arrived at the hospital, Tsunade, acting as the honorary director, summoned all the medical ninjas to the conference room.
"Special training for medical ninjas?" one of the senior medical ninjas, Hajian, looked puzzled. "Lady Tsunade, surely you're joking?"
Hajian, a seasoned medical ninja with over a decade of experience, had always relied on his mastery of medical ninjutsu, earned gradually over years of service. The idea of "special training" seemed foreign to him.
"Hajian, do you really think medical ninjas don't need combat abilities?" Tsunade asked, her voice steady. "If you can't protect yourself, how can you protect your patients? During a battle, would you prefer to wait at the rear for the wounded to be brought to you?"
Hajian faltered. He, too, had served during the Second Ninja War. He remembered Tsunade and her team pushing forward to treat the injured on the front lines, often intervening in battle when needed. Medical ninjas who stayed at the rear had always justified it as a matter of safety, yet it was Tsunade who had fought to elevate their dignity and status.
"If medical ninjas could defend themselves, they wouldn't have to wait in the back. We have excellent chakra control and bodily awareness, and with the right training, we could be more than capable in combat situations," Tsunade continued passionately.
Young medical ninjas, inspired by her words, began to stand, eager to join the cause. They were tired of being seen as mere support and wanted the chance to prove themselves as warriors.
As Tsunade's words rang through the room, it became clear: a new era for medical ninjas was beginning, one where they could stand alongside combat ninjas, protecting themselves and supporting their comrades on the front lines.
