Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Person Behind the Incident

DAISY JOYCE

"I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. It was just a mistake. Are you really pretending to be blind?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly with a mix of confusion and concern. He swayed on his feet, the drunken haze clouding his expression as he mumbled, "I tend to stumble around whenever I drink too much. I'm really sorry for bothering you."

The absurdity of the situation didn't escape me. "Then what on earth are you doing in my room? It's not like you ever bother to check on me," I shot back, frustration bubbling to the surface.

He seemed to shrink under my glare, his disheveled hair and wrinkled shirt making him look like a lost soul.

"I'm sorry, my bad. I will leave now," he hurriedly exclaimed, stumbling out of the room as if trying to escape reality.

I can't shake the feeling that something is off with Damond. He's been acting strangely for quite some time now. At times, he looks utterly exhausted.

In the mornings, he presents himself as a responsible businessman heading off to his company, but by the time night rolls around, he seems like a lost child.

Often, he wouldn't even come home, and his assistant? A real oddball, too. I need to be cautious and a bit skeptical about this situation.

But, well, that's not my concern. I'm here to focus on my work, not to babysit him.

He's got to deal with his own issues—it's not my problem. All I'm here for is to earn more money.

"Damond, you're like a cash machine for me. And who do I have here? Miss Millionaire Daisy?" I chuckled to myself, sounding a bit like a witch.

I couldn't figure out when I dozed off.

The next morning, I was roused by the cheerful chirping of birds and the soft rays of sunlight streaming through my window.

A gentle knock on my door broke the calm. It was Lucy, the maid, standing there. "Good morning, madam. I was just coming to wake you up."

"Good morning! Thanks, I'm up now. I'll join you all shortly; I need to take a quick shower," I replied. "Alright, madam," she answered before heading back.

After freshening up, I made my way downstairs, only to find Damond sitting at the breakfast table. I took a seat across from him.

"Morning," I greeted him, but he offered no response. Wait, did he forget what happened last night? Oh God, this guy is like a loose cannon. I get the feeling he's skilled at putting on a façade.

You know, you never acknowledge me when I say hello, and don't even try to say you've forgotten what went down last night.

What does that actually mean? To be clear, I'm not your beloved wife. I said this without realizing that the maid serving my food looked taken aback by my words.

I recognize your kind. I'm half African, and that heritage flows through me, influencing my being without my consent.Harassing me? Oh, you want to...

He surprised me by handing me an ATM card.

"There's three million dollars on it. Spend it however you like, but I don't want to hear you mention anything unreasonable in my presence again.

I don't want to listen to it, parrot," he said as he stood up and headed to work.

"Who do you think you are? Do you believe you can buy my silence with your filthy money? No way! You can't bribe me."

You've broken rule number four of the contract!" I exclaimed, frustration bubbling over. He didn't seem genuinely remorseful; did he think I was that gullible? He was unwilling to discuss it any further—what a useless man.

Well, never mind that. Business is looking up. I can practically smell the ATM card, and the scent of money is quite enticing. I'm ready to withdraw it all and transfer it into my bank account.

Speaking of which, I've got a meeting lined up with one of the sales agents today. Once I finish my meal, I'll get dressed and head out.

DAMOND CHRIS

Why is she asking such questions? Has she never been through anything before? Honestly, no man would want to get close to someone like her just to keep her quiet from going on and on.

I handed her one of my cards. "Take it; I know you could use some cash to sort things out," and then I stood up to head to the office.

During the conference meeting with my team, I explained, "This is the design and concept for the detection device we're going to develop, and from now on, it's time to get to work."

One of my employees, Fiona, my secretary, asked, "How long do you think it will take to develop?"

"Well, it might take a bit longer depending on our team," she replied. "Then I'm giving you all six months to finish the task."

Just then, Assistant Moore strode into the conference room with purpose. "Boss, you have a visitor waiting in your office."

"Alright, I'll check in shortly," I said. "Make sure to start working on it right away and let the team know," before I left for my office.

Underground Boss, we've uncovered some information from the investigation we conducted.

It appears that the Williams family may be involved in the incident with your company rival, but the connection runs deeper than we initially thought.

However, it's not only to the Williams family; we will get them through the Williams family, Tobi said.

"Boss, the accident you orchestrated a decade ago to eliminate the bad guy's family—they managed to slip away quietly. Instead, we ended up taking the lives of an innocent family returning from their vacation. It was a mistake on our part," Tobi admitted.

"Perhaps their fate was already sealed; it has nothing to do with me. They were just unfortunate. Did they have any relatives or survivors?" I inquired.

"I'm not sure, but we'll look into it, Sir," he replied.

"Alright, what's our next step?" I asked him.

"Boss, we have two plans. Plan A: we would kidnap his heir and Plan B: he would be having a cruise ship party this weekend on Saturday."

Executing Plan A isn't straightforward, but I believe Plan B is a wiser option. We'll have to attend the cruise ship party in disguise to locate the other attackers. Now isn't the right moment to strike, I cautioned.

"Understood, Boss. I'll let the others know and start preparing for that day."

"How exactly do we plan to get onto the cruise ship? It's a tricky mission, so keep that in mind and update the rest.

We're not looking to resort to violence to avoid raising any suspicions," I replied, keeping my tone measured.

"Absolutely, sir, I'll find a way to get the invitation card to you," he replied before stepping out of my office.

I gave him a nod. "Moore, remember we have an outing scheduled for Saturday," I reminded him. "I understand, boss, but you also have a wedding to attend," he pointed out. "The wedding is during the day; we'll make it to both events."

Also, order some event dresses for Daisy. "Got it, sir. I'll take care of that right away," Moore said.
