Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Maybe...?

The next day, Emily prepared for another long day of filming, feeling the weight of the new responsibilities she now bore, not only as an actress but as a rising public figure. Her brief from the company included strategic media engagements and a campaign to support freedom of the press, a theme that resonated deeply with her character, Amara, as well as with Emily.

On set, the atmosphere was hectic. The production seemed to grow in complexity with each passing day, and the crew worked at a rapid pace to capture important scenes. Emily was preparing for one of the film's most emotional scenes, in which Amara confronts an authority figure involved in the corruption schemes she is investigating. The director explained the intensity and emotional weight of the scene, guiding her on the tone and impact she wanted.

As the cameras began rolling, Emily focused deeply on her role, allowing herself to be carried away by the intensity of Amara's emotions. Amidst the indignant and determined speeches, she was surprised by the depth she found within herself, channeling her own frustrations and anxieties. At the end of the scene, the set fell into a respectful silence, as if everyone there had been transported to Amara's own journey.

"Cut!" the director exclaimed, visibly impressed. "That was one of the best scenes so far, Emily. Really powerful!"

Emily smiled and thanked him, taking a deep breath to ease the intensity of the moment. But she was soon approached by Rafael, the actor with whom she had shared a brief tension earlier. Today, however, he seemed friendlier and more open.

"That scene was incredible, Emily. I think we were all mesmerized," he said, smiling.

"Thank you, Rafael. That means a lot coming from you," she replied, surprised and pleased by the positive reaction.

Despite the intense day, she knew that her commitments did not end there. She still needed to dedicate time to the duties the company had entrusted to her. During breaks, she would take a few minutes to record short videos for the press freedom campaign, conveying the importance of honest, fearless journalism—something she had learned to value more deeply through Amara.

"You're getting the hang of it," commented Gabriela, who had arrived on set to help her coordinate the extra demands. "These videos are coming out great and authentic."

Emily nodded, still thinking about the next shoot. She could sense that Amara's intensity and emotional charge were spilling over into her personal life, and it helped her bring more realism to her campaign speeches. "It's like I'm living two lives at once," she told Gabriela.

"And that's only going to make your performance even richer," Gabriela replied. "These campaigns and the role itself are part of who you're becoming, Emily. People are already talking about your connection to Amara."

At the end of the day, after a long day of filming and social media shoots, Emily was exhausted but satisfied.

As Emily wrapped up her long day of filming, Matthew was immersed in the responsibilities and challenges of managing Lancaster Corp. He had barely slept the night before, still distracted by the meeting at the party, where every word and smile exchanged with Emily resonated in his mind. As the day began, he had several important meetings and decisions to make, but whenever he had a moment to spare, he would pick up his phone and consider sending her a message.

As he was reviewing some contracts, a notification flashed on his phone: a message from Emily.

"I hope your day is going well. It's been very intense around here. But you were right... I'm loving every second of it."

Matthew smiled, immediately responding: "And I knew you'd do well, even with all the pressure. Don't forget to take advantage of your breaks."

They exchanged a few quick messages, little escapes that brought a little lightness to Matthew's busy day. But the work routine was soon interrupted by a call from his mother, Mariana, a strong woman with a strong personality, known as much for her love of family as for her relentless expectations.

"Hi, Mom," he answered, already anticipating the tenor of the conversation.

"Matthew, honey, how are you? I hope you're not burying yourself in work again," she began, her voice soft but with a note of firmness that Matthew knew well.

"I'm fine, Mom. A little busy, but nothing out of the ordinary," he replied.

"Yes, yes, but let's get straight to the point," she said bluntly. "You'll be 22 soon, and I still don't see even a hint of a serious relationship around you. I'm already looking forward to being a grandmother, you know?"

Matthew laughed, trying to lighten the seriousness. "Mom, I still have a lot to do before I can think about marriage or children."

"That's what you always say," Clara replied, a little impatiently. "But the truth is, you're letting life pass you by. You are already a grown man and you need a partner who will walk alongside you, someone who understands the weight of your responsibilities and complements you." Matthew sighed, knowing that his mother had her reasons, but he was not ready to give in. "I understand your concern, but when you find the right person, you will be the first to know." Mariana let out a dramatic sigh, but accepted. "Well, Matthew, just don't take too long. I really want to see you happy, with a family of your own." They continued the conversation for a few more minutes, talking about their family and their end-of-year plans. After hanging up, Matthew reflected on his mother's words. Although he was focused on his business and all the responsibilities he had inherited, the meeting with Emily made him wonder if, perhaps, his mother was right in some way. Later that night, as Emily reviewed her lines for the next day's filming and Matthew finished his last work emails, they both thought about each other, each with a slight anxiety. There was something there, a connection that blossomed slowly but surely, something that was beginning to make sense amidst their very different and intense lives.

After a long day of filming, Emily accepted an invitation from her friends on set for a relaxed outing. She put on a light jacket, comfortable jeans, and tied her hair in a casual ponytail. She needed a break, a moment away from the pressure of the cameras and the constant attention.

The bar she had chosen was cozy, with soft lighting and background music, perfect for relaxing. As soon as they entered, Emily was greeted with laughter and greetings from her colleagues, who were already seated at a table in the back. Among them were Rafael, who played the antagonist, and a few other members of the production team. They all seemed excited, exchanging jokes and telling stories from the filming.

"You're finally out having fun, Emily!" Rafael commented, smiling. "We were starting to think you were all work."

She laughed, taking the drink they offered her. "I didn't even know I needed a night like this so much."

As the night progressed, Emily allowed herself to relax, laughing more than she had in a long time. The group talked about the most challenging scenes, the blunders on set, and even did some imitations of the most dramatic lines, making everyone laugh out loud.

In a calmer moment, Rafael approached her and, in a more serious tone, commented: "You know, we're all impressed with what you brought to the character. It's inspiring."

Emily smiled, feeling welcomed and recognized. That night had been a necessary relief, a refreshing pause to remind herself that, despite all the work, she still had room to enjoy the present.
