Ivan had a plan.
However, he saw no reason to help Ronald improve his skills.
Yes, improve his skills.
During his time at Hogwarts, Ivan discovered a way to enhance abilities in the library—through a method called magical transformation.
Magical transformation is an advanced subject that combines potions, spells, transfiguration, and even dark magic. It's a crucial method for ordinary wizards to become powerful ones.
But this process is very risky, with only a one-in-ten chance of success, making it a dangerous gamble with one's life.
At Hogwarts, Professors McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout have never attempted magical transformation, remaining as ordinary wizards.
For regular wizards, reaching the level of a magical master is the highest goal they can achieve.
Ivan, having read the original Harry Potter books and watched the movies, understands the vast difference between magical masters and true great wizards. The gap is enormous and unimaginable for those at the lower level.
"No wonder an attribute score of 5 is considered legendary," Ivan thought.
With his magical vision and spiritual insight, Ivan had a unique advantage when it came to magical transformation.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find any books about magical transformation in the library.
He suspected that this information was hidden away in the restricted section.
'I won't be able to accomplish anything alone in the future.'
The only people Ivan trusted were Hermione and Yumi.
This girl and her cat were his close confidants.
Although Hermione was talented, Ivan could see her future limits.
At best, she would reach the level of Professor McGonagall and become a master of spells.
'But with me around, she should be able to achieve even more.'
Ivan planned to study hard at Hogwarts for a few years.
Once he gathered enough knowledge, he would experiment on small animals, and then on Yumi.
He wouldn't risk Hermione's life unless he successfully completed magical transformation on Yumi first.
"Thank you so much!" Yumi said.
"Okay, children, class is over for today," Professor McGonagall announced, and the little wizards began to put down their wands.
Ivan looked around and noticed that only he and Hermione had successfully performed transformations in the first class.
The best others managed was Harry, who had turned one end of a matchstick into a needle.
Most of the others, including Ronald, Neville, and Seamus, hadn't changed their matches at all.
Next came the class that all the students were really excited about—Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Ivan didn't have high expectations for it.
As expected, Professor Quirrell's performance in this class was almost laughable.
The classroom was filled with the smell of garlic. It was rumored that this was to keep away a vampire he encountered in Romania, as he feared it might return to get him.
He claimed his scarf was a gift from an African prince, who wanted to thank him for helping with a problem involving some resurrected zombies.
However, no one seemed to believe his stories completely.
During this time, Seamus Finnigan asked Professor Quirrell how he defeated the zombies.
Quirrell's face turned red, and he stammered, mumbling about the weather and trying to change the subject.
'This guy is a fool,' Ivan thought. Quirrell might believe his act was convincing enough to fool everyone at Hogwarts, including Dumbledore.
But his poor acting was so obvious, it was like he had "I have a problem" written all over his face.
'Voldemort must have lost his mind after splitting his soul, and now he ends up possessing someone like Quirrell.'
However, considering that Voldemort was hiding in Albania and almost hopeless, it wasn't surprising he wasn't choosy about who he possessed.
"Ivan."
After class, Hermione and Neville walked alongside Ivan. The little witch complained, "Hogwarts' Defense Against the Dark Arts class is so disappointing."
As a good student, Hermione usually didn't disrespect teachers, but Quirrell's teaching had really surprised her.
"It's not unusual," Ivan replied calmly. "I heard there's a curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, and professors can't teach for more than a year."
"Is that true?" Hermione's eyes widened, and Neville looked scared, as if the class was something terrible.
"Don't worry, the curse only affects professors, not students."
"That's still scary," Hermione said, considering whether she should comfort Professor Quirrell, since he was in danger just to teach them—even though his teaching wasn't very good.
"Don't worry," Ivan assured them. "If Hogwarts is willing to hire him, and he's willing to take the job, there shouldn't be any real problems.
If things were really that bad, Dumbledore wouldn't let him stay."
As the three of them walked and talked, Ivan and Hermione did most of the talking while Neville listened quietly.
"By the way," Ivan said suddenly, remembering something. "Let's keep a low profile in tomorrow's Potions class."
"What do you mean?" Hermione and Neville exchanged puzzled looks.
"You'll see tomorrow."
Not wanting to explain further, Ivan led them to the library. They planned to borrow some books to take back to the dormitory and read at their own pace.
The potions class was held in a chilly basement. It was much colder here than in the main part of the castle. Glass jars lined the walls, containing animal specimens that made everyone shiver.
When Ivan, Hermione, and Neville arrived in the classroom, many students were already there.
Most of them were from Slytherin.
First-year Potions class was shared between Slytherin and Gryffindor, which was Ivan's first chance to meet the Slytherin students.
Malfoy was there with his usual followers, Goyle and Crabbe, along with a short girl named Pansy Parkinson.
"Look who it is!" Malfoy sneered as soon as he spotted Ivan. "You really stole the spotlight, Ivan Ambrosius. Everyone says you're the most impressive little wizard this year."
"I," Ivan raised an eyebrow, stopping Hermione, who was about to respond. "Malfoy, I don't really understand your logic."
Their conversation quickly drew the attention of the other young wizards in the class.
But no one dared to intervene.
Malfoy came from an aristocratic family, a pureblood in first year, and he considered himself important.
Ivan was even more remarkable.
He came from the Muggle world, yet in just a few days, the magical talent he had shown in class was enough to earn the respect of all the young wizards.
In short, neither of them was someone others could afford to mess with.
