He entered the car ,inserted the key into the ignition and turned it, pressed a button, and the car revved back to life . He pulled out of the parking lot and swerved to the right and they zoomed off from the airport.
Jayden picked up the business magazine that was lying sprawled on the back seat, it had the current month's date on it, meaning it had recent news. Jayden flipped through the pages , "Adrian, what happened to the drivers?" He questioned as he kept turning the pages scaling through the words written in it.
"Mom had everyone cleaning up today, so she told me to come pick you up. And Mr Monty fell ill yesterday,so he couldn't come to the airport." He answered as he adjusted the car mirror, "Mom should retire him ,he has been driving for us for so long" Adrian commented.
"And why ?It's a Friday" Jayden was perplexed at his mother's actions.
"You ask me, aren't you her favorite and you're coming back today,connect the dots" Adrian replied.
Jayden didn't reply, and continued flipping the magazine ,the sound of turning pages filling the silence in the car. " Hey , you are reading that magazine right. Our companies ranked 17th richest company in the world, while the software and multi-tech company ranked 16th among the top 20 software and Cyber security companies."
Jayden hummed in acknowledgement as he was currently on that page.
"Damn, that British software technology company is good . They recruit top hackers and Cyber security officers in their company that's why they are always on top. Guess what ? When I came a few days ago ,I saw an email from them. Sean had shown it to me ,I think they sent it out to all American cyber security companies.
It's a puzzle in the form of a hacking program,all the companies that can solve it will receive a ticket to participate in their upcoming hackathon. And the first three companies to win ,will get to collaborate with them. If we can get a collaboration with them, Jayden ,it's going to boost us through the ranks and we'll be more popular worldwide,with access to more topnotch materials."
Adrian pumped his fist in the air after delivering his heartfelt speech , causing the car to swerve out of the road, almost hitting a curb, sending some pigeons that were peacefully pecking on the sidewalk to fly away. He caught the wheel immediately and steered it back to the road.
He didn't dare look back at Jayden, cause he was glaring daggers at his head . Adrian was the jovial one while Jayden was the cold one and always expressionless. They co-owned the J-movies company and J-software and multi-tech company. They were both techy individuals, Adrian loved developing software while Jayden was into hacking.
Originally the company founded by their grandfather was for making appliances, machines and android used in the home and offices, in their father's time he started dabbling into software which Adrian took after while Jayden went into hacking and also studied business management. Now in their time ,it was a full time cyber security, software and website developing company, though they still produced the androids and machines but in other branches in America.
How did J-movies come along? Their mother, Vanessa Coleman, was a famous, worldwide box office actress. She was called Queen V due to her ability to carry the rhythm of the movie , and her topnotch change in expressions,it was dynamic.
Movies she starred in always became box office movies , running into billions of dollars.
Before she got married,she was a small-time actress that was still rising.
Mr Coleman's late mother didn't like her because she was not classy enough. She had someone else in her mind to marry Justin Coleman, despite his rejections.
When Justin threatened to run away with Vanessa, the mother made a deal that if Vanessa didn't give her a son in one year of their marriage, Justin would marry the girl the mother wanted him to marry.
In their one year of marriage, Vanessa had a miscarriage. She was scared and together with Justin begged the mother for another one year.
Justin's mother surprisingly conceded, so after that incident, in one year Jayden was born , during that period her acting career had started being in the limelight and she started her own company.
She was still deciding what to name it until Jayden came along. Vanessa cherished him because his presence helped cement her position in the Coleman family.
Justin's mother loves Jayden so much , he excelled at everything he did as a child. After two years, Adrian was born, then Jayden was no longer the center of attention. Adrian became the favorite of their grandparents ,that didn't lessen their love for Jayden but he had to share with his brother. But Vanessa tended to favor Jayden more.
She handed the company over to them, when she retired, to receive 20% of their earnings. At first it was still producing good movies until they both traveled out.
For the past five years , the quality of movies produced had declined overtime as none of the brothers were around to supervise, letting wolves slip into the company. Adrian had gone to Australia for a business deal and just came back the previous week.
Jayden went to England to start up a company there, it had minimal progress over there. But he came back for the meantime and after receiving the news , he was going to stay for a while.
Soon they approached a huge black gate, there were two black suited guys, who were standing guard outside . When they recognized the car that was approaching them . He punched some numbers into the wall and the gates automatically opened letting them in.
The car drove into a beautiful compound that screamed luxury. The well groomed gardens planted on each side , the car drove past a waterfall ,the water was protruding out from the mouth of a shark that was held in one hand by a supposed replica of the statue of king Neptune and the other hand holding his trident.
Their car stopped in front of the mansion. Jayden opened the car door and came down, he tucked on his trench coat as he looked at the mansion, a wave of nostalgia hitting him. One of the maids rushed to get his box from the car trunk. Adrian came down and handed the keys to one of the drivers ,who entered it and drove it to the garage to park it amongst the other many cars they had.
"Oh Jayden, my son" his mom sauntered over to him and hugged him , his huge figure enveloping her small frame. As they separated, she pulled out a handkerchief from god-knows-where and dabbed at the corners of eyes.
"How I missed you, you have been gone for ages." She said and hugged him again.
Jayden rolled his eyes inwardly at his mother's acting antics.
"Vanessa, please he just came back , it's not time to hog him all to yourself. The boy just came back, he needs to rest" Mr Coleman came to pry off Vanessa from Jayden whom she had clung to like a leech , which he was internally grateful for.
"What! Leave me and my son , he has been away from me" she protested as she was dragged away by Justin.
"Yeah right, she didn't even hug me that much" Adrian snickered.
"What are you saying? I hugged you and prepared food for you too" Vanessa tried to defend herself.
"Uh-huh?" Mr Justin raised an eyebrow at her claims.
"You don't believe me? Justin, how could you?" Vanessa clutched her chest in feigned hurt
They bantered as they walked inside, 'the Coleman family was complete for now' a small smile fought its way to the corners of Jayden's mouth, as they walked into the house , heading towards the dining table.
Varieties of dishes decorated the table , mouth watering, hot steam floating above them indicating their hotness. Adrian rubbed his hands ,as they settled down at the dining table . He proceeded to to take one of the chicken wings in a bowl at the center of the table, a plastic spoon hit him at the back of his hand at a speed faster than his hand could touch the chicken.
"Mom!" Adrian cried out dramatically with wide eyes,he held his hand that was beaten, looking like a wronged child whose candy was taken from him.
Vanessa sized him up, before stabbing a juicy chicken wing with a fork and placing it on his plate, which incited a mischievous grin from him.
Mr Coleman shook his head as he took his fork and spoon, "let's eat"he said. And they began eating.
"So how was your trip?", Mr Justin asked Jayden.
"Good" he answered as he sipped his wine.
Jayden has always been a man of few words literally,unless it was of dire importance,emphasis on dire,will more words be added . Hell, he wouldn't say much to save himself.
"And the company" he probed.
"It has hope of thriving", he paused "I just need an opportunity",he added ,he was not going to elaborate further.
"Okay " his father said barely above a whisper though it was audible to all around the table.
They resumed their eating.
"What about Chloe?" Vanessa asked.
"She's fine" Jayden replied as he stuffed himself with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
"That's all?" Vanessa asked her voice laced with a tinge of disappointment and something else.
Jayden paused his action of eating , blinking his eyes slowly at her. "Ah!", Vanessa huffed, "look at your son Justin, so unromantic"she berated her husband.
"Should we keep telling you what to do?do you want that girl to marry at a grey age? Have you two not set a date for your marriage,huh?" Vanessa massaged the space between her brows with her fingers as though talking about Jayden was tiring.
Jayden just lifted the glass of wine to his lips and sipped it unhurriedly as they waited his answer.
"Chloe would be coming back at the end of the month. Then we will sign an agreement for the collaboration of our companies,while you have the honor of deciding the date for the marriage." Jayden replied as he directed his attention back to his food, like he did not just drop a bombshell on their heads.
Everyone paused what they were doing gaping at Jayden, who was unfazed by their reactions.
Adrian was the first to recover, he smiled roguishly as he slapped his brother's arm earning a glare from him. He laughed it off, "that's my man, and here I thought we'd have to wait til his 60's before he gets married to Chloe."
Vanessa was grinning from ear to ear, "oh my son, I'm so proud. Soon Chloe will become part of our family. I've been wanting this for years ." She dabbed at the corner of her eyes, "I'm so proud of you"
"Mom, can't you go a day without drama?" Adrian scoffed. She glared daggers at him , if eyes could kill he would be 10ft under, "and when are you going to introduce a decent girl to us?"she deadpanned.
Adrian pulled his mouth into a grimace , and made the motion of zipping his mouth, locking it and throwing away the key. "We were talking about Jayden and Chloe now" he grumbled.
Mr Coleman smiled at Jayden ignoring the mother and second son banter. "Congratulations"Justin clasped his shoulder firmly. Jayden nodded, "but we are yet to announce it" he turned to Adrian, "so Adrian here is going to help me plan it out. I intend to do it in our collaboration party as well as her welcome party"
Vanessa clapped her hands, "if I didn't know better ,I would have thought it was an imposter sitting with us. Go ahead and do all that and leave all these other preparations for me. Like the cards ,the after party just concentrate on the collaboration party and the marriage registration with the court. Mom will ensure everything goes perfect." She clapped her hands as she listed out all the plans feeling all giddy.
