Chapter 1 - Betrayal

_EVELYN_

"I'm sorry, Evelyn, but you're fired." Natalie Shakes, the receptionist at Port's Hotel said to me with a pitiful expression.

Her words repeatedly rang in my ears like the bell at the Catholic church. It went into my ears, but was refused to be registered in my mind. I refused to believe the words that came out of her mouth.

Fired? What a joke.

"Natalie, please don't joke with me, I'm really not in the mood for it." I laughed, trying to get her to do the same. She needed to laugh as well, she just had to.

But no, Natalie simply stared at me, no traces of a smile on her face, just the look of concern and pity.

"It can't be true right? Mr. Park can't fire me just like that." I shook my head, reaching out to hold her hand. "Please I need to see him."

"I'm sorry, but you can't. He has instructed the guards to throw you out once you are seen within the premises." She said again, politely pulling her hands away from mine.

I felt my legs wobble, fear crawling up my skin. This can't be happening. I was fired. I was fired from work. What was I supposed to do now? Just because of one mistake, I lost my job.

If only I could see the manager, but I knew he wouldn't hesitate to lock me up if he saw me.

I sighed dejectedly, gave Natalie a wide smile that was clearly not from heart, then turned to leave.

A night before, I had done something wrong at the party hosted by the famous actress, Jessica James. And now, it cost me my job. After so many years of working in this hotel, they threw me away, just like that.

I flagged down a cab when I got to the roadside, directing the driver to my house at the estate in the heart of the city.

Today was really a bad day for me.

I felt my shoulders stiffen, back aching from working the entire night, I couldn't believe that after all these, I still lost the job. Mr Park was really a stone cold man.

For the next one month, I was sure as hell that things would turn out extremely difficult for me, but thankfully, Logan just got a job. His income would keep us afloat until I get myself another job.

I decided to call and check if Logan had left home to work, but the moment I pulled my phone out of my bag, I felt a sudden reluctance. There was no need to call him to confirm. It was still early in the morning, he definitely hadn't gone to work.

The driver soon pulled into the estate, heading for my house which was the 6th building in the row.

The driver stopped the moment I told him to. I paid him off and headed for my house.

I pushed the front door open with a sigh, making my way inside. The front door wasn't locked and the house was quiet as usual. I immediately knew that Logan must still be at home.

Walking up the stairs and ready to cry in his arms for my lost job, my chest tightened even more. I knew for a fact that I would cry my eyes out today.

When I reached the door of our bedroom, my steps faltered when I heard a loud scream coming from inside.

The voice of the person who screamed wasn't that of man. It was a woman's voice.

A woman's voice? In my bedroom?

My gaze darkened as I tried to come with a good explanation why a woman would be in my bedroom.

I shook my head, refusing to be the one to figure it out. Without thinking, I pushed the bedroom door open and stepped in.

The moment I walked into the bedroom, I stilled.

There they were. Logan -my Logan- naked, tangled with her, Claire, his new colleague, as he'd always insisted. The same girl he swore up and down was just a friend. My fingers tightened around the door handle, my gaze glued to the sight that should have torn me apart or sparked an immediate reaction.

But I felt nothing. Nothing except the dull ache that came with the pain of losing my job.

My gaze traced every detail, almost as if I was watching a scene from someone's life.

I couldn't breathe, neither could I think. I couldn't decide if I wanted to cry or laugh. Instead, I just stood there watching…. Waiting for something.

For my Logan to look at me, for that bitch to scramble out of my bed, for the universe to acknowledge what was happening right before me.

Logan was the first to finally notice me. His eyes widened in shock, blood draining from his face as he scrambled out of the bed, almost falling. "Evie," he choked, panicking. "Evie, I swear it's not what it looks like…." He fumbled, struggling to put his shirt on as if he could erase what I just saw.

Logan then stepped towards me, his face filled with guilt. "Evie, just let me explain. She… she seduced me. I swear it wasn't intentional!" He began to say, but I heard a scoff from behind him.

Claire, who had been initially quiet chuckled haughtily, her gaze sharp as spat. "Seduced you? Logan, don't lie! You were the one who told me you loved me! Tell her you don't love her and stop fooling around."

"Shut the fuck up, bitch! I never said that." Logan panicked again, turning to look at me. He shook his head, denying her accusations.

I bit back the sob that threatened to crack my resolve. I would never cry here. I wasn't that weak to show my emotions In front of such betrayal.

"Evie…you have to trust me." Logan said softly like he was approaching a fragile thing. "It's really not as she said it. I didn't mean for this to happen. I was seduced, okay? She came to me, I didn't want it. You have to believe me. You know I love y_"

"Shut up." I cut him short, finally saying a word. Thankfully, my voice wasn't hoarse, but had the amount of harshness needed to deal with the both of them.

" Evie.."

"Get out." I added sternly, making way at the door for him to leave. There was nothing left to say. He had already chosen his own part. After all we've been through and everything I did for him, It was of no use now.

"Evie please let me explain_"

"Logan Windsor, Get. Out!" This time, my voice was stronger. I watched his shoulders sag, as the realization finally dawned on him.

With a defeated sigh, Logan slowly walked out of the room, followed by his mistress, Claire.

The moment I was left alone, I slumped to the floor by the door, the tears I held back rocking my world completely.
