I can't believe I pulled that off. I've always been the sweet and gentle Viv, while Nica—well, she's always been the bold, no-nonsense version of me. Maybe that's why our little "switch" trick worked. I finally managed to channel her confidence, and it actually worked. I stare at my phone, adrenaline still coursing through my veins, and send a quick text to Nica:
"Pulled it off."
Almost immediately, my phone chimes with a reply, and then it starts ringing. It's Nica. I pick up, grinning.
"Pulled what off?" she asks, her voice bubbling with excitement.
"The switch," I say, barely able to contain my triumph. "I ran into your favorite nemesis today."
"Oh, no way!" she gasps. "I wish I'd been there to see it."
