His father glanced at him for the last time and smiled in response before he reached for his wife's hand on his arm and gently squeezed it and they resumed going downstairs, walking past their son. "Come now, Nasten'ka. The flowers you picked earlier were absolutely beautiful. Will you walk me in the garden before dinner?"
