Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Night of the Mares

It took a solid minute for me to reform to the sudden shift in location, during that minute, Hollyhocks picked Snidely up, and began slapping him, speaking In a language that could pretty much only be described as out of this world. One world I remember her saying the most though was a flag....or was it fatine? I couldn't quite remember, since I wasn't in my right mind. After Hollyhocks was done speaking to Snidely and slapping him silly, his eyes went back to normal and he clutched his cheek."Owwww" he whined"What was that for?""Sorry Snidely, you were possessed and unfortunately, slapping combined with speaking the ancient words of the old ones, is the only way to get a ghost out of someone" Hollyhocks muttered, in a somber tone."So he was possessed?" I asked for clarification which was stupid in hindsight because it was pretty clear that he was possessed judging from what she just said."Yes he is was" Hollyhocks replied."Oh well at least that explains why when we were falling earlier, he didn't just teleport us away immediately"Hollyhocks opened her mouth and was about to speak but before she could even get a word out, Plasmeus interjected and said:"Actually that's just a normal thing for mind mages. They are very full of themselves. Like, extremely narcissistic. There was this one Luck mage who thought he could beat this Skeletal Dragon. Let's just say.....-" his the voice trailed off for a while before he finished, "-his luck ran out."Well, that certainly explained it. The whole reason Snidely was always annoying is that it's just something all mind mages share"Well now that's all cleared up, you should both probably head back to your classes seeing as your punishment is over and you have learned to work together." Plasmeus said."Yeah because you put us on the island and nearly killed us" I muttered under my breath."I'm sorry what did you say?" Plasmeus asked, Spontaneously bursting into lightning that completely covered his body as a show of his power."Uhh...Nothing. Nothing at all" I said, as I walked back to the cafeteria." I considered leaving the door open for Snidely but he could teleport so walking was kind of useless for him anyway. Right when I entered the cafeteria, A bell buzzed and we all had to leave. But there was one problem. I didn't know where to go. The other new kids didn't know where to go eitherWell most of the kids didn't know where to go. Clara was acting like she did but the other death mages weren't letting her unless she told them. Clara was getting frustrated. Like really frustrated. She began hissing at the other kids."Hey stop that" One of the death mages said. She was blonde and her eyes were violet. Clara screamed at her and was about to launch at the girl, but in midair the skin on her face began to crack like a mask. And she began running right at me. I instantly raised my hand to her and shot out a blast of lightning. It was weak of course. I wanted to stun her, not kill her. That'd be something I couldn't live with. She began convulsing on the floor and spazzing out. "What's wrong with her?" I asked no one in particular. Suddenly I heard the rustling of bone behind me, and I turned around to see me necrosis. He was eyeing Everyone with a look of confusion, at least I thought it was confusion. It was kind of hard to tell what with him having no eyes."Well this is something I'm not quite used to" he said as he walked towards Clara."Why is her face cracking unless..." he trailed off. Suddenly, without saying a word, Necrosis bolted over t to Clara, and grabbed her by the neck tightly. Clara's eyes rolled into her skull as she suddenly went limp from the touch. "Clara!" I shouted, bolting over to Necrosis. "Get away From her!" I screamed jumping out at Necrosis. But it was already too late.Necrosis along with Clara disappeared in a puff of thick black smoke, causing the whole area to reek with the smell of sulfur and death. And I crashed into the hard linoleum floor, letting out a weak gurgle as I did so. I slowly rose to my feet, anger seething in me. What happened to my sister? Where was she? What did Necrosis s to her? These questions and many more began swimming in my mind with the frenzy of a crazy piranha swarm. I opened my mouth and was about to say something, only for no sound to come from my mouth. Not even a whimper. Suddenly my mouth closed, but not from my own control. I peered around and saw other people just standing there, only seeming able to move their eyes in horror. Then suddenly everyone began walking out of the cafeteria, clearly by their eyes, they weren't in control. Suddenly, I felt myself walk out of the cafeteria with everyone else. The instant I left the cafeteria I gained control of my body back. It was at this point I noticed there were arrows on the wall that were moving. So with nothing else to do, I followed them. After walking for a bit I reached a bridge where there were other buildings each covered in a different element.I noticed one of the buildings was covered in flames. Perhaps this was the plasma building? There was only one way to know for sure.i walked into the building and the instant I did, I I was hit by a rush of heat and nearly doubled over. Keep in mind im a plasma mage mage and already have resistance to heat. If a human or non plasma mage entered the building, they'd probably melt like a chocolate bar on a hot summer day. I was in a really long hallway with a single elevator. There was an arrow on the wall, pointing to the elevator. I heard the pitterung and pattering of rapid feet behind me, and turned to see other plasma mages bolting at me, probably because there was one elevator. I quickly ran over to the elevator, dodging fireballs and energy blast until finally, I entered the elevator and saw an arrow hovering over the number 3 button. I pressed the button rapidly but nothing was happening. The kids were getting closer and closer, until finally, the titanium elevator doors closed, blocking a stray fireball from hitting me.I took a sigh as the elevator rose. After a while it stopped and the doors slid open, revealing a long hallway filled with metal doors. Their was a banner from the ceiling that just had the illustration of a lightning bolt on it. I saw a giant arrow hovering over one of the doors. I walked over to the door and noticed it had my initials written on it, which was Kind of creepy since I had only been in the Lazarus agency for like a day.And Hollyhocks was a mind mage so maybe she raided everyone's minds to get their information. As I was thinking that, I suddenly got this massive migraine and suddenly ended the instant I stopped thinking about Hollyhocks as a bad person. So that was certainly odd. I looked for a handle on the door only to find none, so instead, I just laid my hand on the door, and voila it slid open, revealing my room. My room was an unbalanced mixture of bland and extreme. The walls were painted blue, The bed was varying shades of brown and black, the ceiling was a dull grey, there was a closet that had nothing except a blue jacket with a lightning strike on it's hoodie, and the floor was made of glass and What I saw below it made me jump back in shock. Below the glass was another a version of me, drowning and flailing in the water. Screaming and trying his hardest to get out of the water, only his movements to slowly get stiffer and stiffer until finally, he let out a weak gasp before submerging into the water, leaving no trace at all. I was terrified of seeing what happened before me, I was even more terrified of the fact that The only thing stopping very scenario before me actually playing out was a thin panel of glass. I quickly decided to try to not focus on the glass floor and instead I carefully walked over to the bland bed. The sun was beginning to set and I was way to exhausted from the day so I plopped onto the bed with a tired sigh. I couldn't sleep though.Partly because there was a thin layer of glass between me and death, and partly because what had happened in the last 16 hours filled me with such Intrigue and excitemecouldn't sleep.I tossed end turned and eventually I just got up and looked around and saw the dresser left ajar. I opened it and saw a bag marked with the words: "Warning: "This can help you sleep but don't take more than one bite" Inside the bag was a caramel chocolate bar.I opened up the bag and took out the chocolate bar. Strangely enough, it didn't melt. It was like it was always in the same temperature, warm. I hesitantly took a bite out of the chocolate bar. The chocolate seemed to taste far more unnatural than any other chocolate I had ever tasted. The instant the bar touched my tongue, it seemed to make my tastebuds explode with delight all at once, before quickly being replaced with the regular creamy taste of caramel chocolate. The taste was short and sweet, like a gnome drowning in maple syrup. It made me feel relaxed and awfully calm. I felt like I could die right then and there, because nothing in life would ever be as blissful, as the first taste of that chocolate bar. I lazily waddled over to my bed, lied down on it, and drifted off into unconsciousness. I found myself in the black abyss, floating like I had no mass. Suddenly I saw...somethingg of in the distance. It was fluid and shimmering. Almost like it was....water! That's what it was, water. Tons of the stuff. Now I was in a really long school hallway, with red lockers on the walls. The sudden shift in setting practically, made me fall on my feet. "You got this!" A familiar voice said. The water kept rushing at me. I turned around and ran like the wind away from the rushing wave of water to the door at the end of the hallway. Strangely enough, I couldn't seem to ever reach the door, no matter how fast I would run. Suddenly, locker doors began to fly off of their hinges right as I went near them. I had to use a combination of jumping, rolling and just plain running to get past the flying heaps of metal. I quickly grabbed a stray flying locker door and put it in front of me to use a makeshift shield. It was a little hefty but I would much rather deal with sore arms as opposed to getting decapitated by a locker door. I began bashing away other locker doors for a while. I was still running and once again, the door appeared to be farther away, when I would get close enough to it. I had to get out of here. I screamed as I felt a single drop of water touch my back, sending chills down my spine. I wasn't exactly scared of the drop per-say but more of what came with it: Water. A wave of water that just wouldn't hesitate to swallow my body whole. And I would die a horrid and slow death. I began running no, springing towards the door, dodging ducking and diving past locker doors as I did so. Everything was purely reactionary. No time to think, only time to react. The locker door was hindering my speed so I blocked one more door before dropping it at my feet. Unfortunatualy, in the time it took for me to drop the door, the rushing wave caught up with me and I had to use the door as a makeshift surfing board. I screamed as I tried my best not to fall into the water, doing so would definitely end in my demise. The locker doors were stil, flying at me, so now I had to avoid them, and avoid not drowning. Lovely. At least this time the door was staying in the same place and not moving away from me so that was good. There was a single golden locker right next to the door, shaking violently. I continued barely dodging the locker doors until suddenly, with a clack, the golden locker door flew off of its hinges with ungodly speed, and bum rushed towards me, cutting the other locker doors in half. Also water was beghinging to seep in through the slits on the locker door I was riding. I was already on an adrenaline rush, but when I felt the water on my feet time began to slow to a crawl. It was just like with the robot fight. I now had light speed reactions. Couple that with the adrenaline rush and I managed to jump from locker door to locker door. With each Jump, time began to quicken, I was getting less and less reactionary and more focused, and the golden locker door was getting faster and faster. Still, I kept jumping. I had to escape this horrid nightmare. I very quickly ran out of lockers to jump on, time had resumed and the wave was rushing at me. The door was about five feet away. Unfortunately, so was the golden locker. I could only do one thing. I swan dived into the door, barely missing the locker door. I fell on the hard pavement ground of a street. I slowly got to my feet and turned around, only to see that the hallway was gone, leaving just more street, "Congrats you survived!" The same voice from earlier said right above me, "it would've been horrible if you were to die in your sleep on your first day at Lazarus" I turned up to see that the speaker, was in fact Bob floating obove me. I let out a gasp of surprise. "How are you here" I asked bob," I'm not even in the Lightning training room." "True, but we are linked till death, remember?" Bob said to me as he slowly began descending to the ground. I suddenly remembered what Zhou had told me about how Bob is particularly clingy to those who survive his dream attacks, and how he always puts people in dangerous situations, especially when they are linked. That was bad. That meant that from now on, every time I go to sleep, I would be at risk of dying. Is there anything at this damn agency that won't try to kill me? Probably not. At this rate, I wouldn't be suprised if the food they served in the cafeteria were oddly shaped monsters that were slowly eating us from the inside. "Anyway now that you've complete that challenge, you must now..." Bob trailed off, beggining to breathe heavily all of a sudden. "No no no!" He muttered, his eyes shiftily turning to every direction as if he was looking for someone. It was at this moment I noticed that to the side of the road was seemingly endless desert. There was a remarkably loud boom off in the distance. It was like a nuclear reactor went off. It shook me to my very core and made my vision incredibly blurry. "Get out of here Luke before it's too late!" Bob shouted. At least I think he shouted. It was more like a whimper because I could barely hear him over the loud boom. I could barely see an oval-shaped portal appearing a few feet away from me. I stumbled over to the portal, only for it to move a few feet away. "That's not me!" Bob shouted in fear, "That's her quick you must leave you must leave before-!" Bob was cut off as a feminine, gnarly, pure white hand burst through his chest, sending his blue blood splashing onto my face and making me scream! The hand quickly receded as Bob fell to the ground in a pool of his own blood. I couldn't help but scream at the grisly sight. My vision stopped blurring. I stumbled back in shock and fell down. "How did she find us..." Bob muttered as he weakly got to his feet and clutched his chest wound. "What's going on?" I asked, my voice shrill and low. "Never mind that," Bob said frantically, "just get to the portal!" I nodded and ran at the portal and once again. it kept teleporting away from me. Suddenly, I felt myself get grabbed by the legs and launched me off into the air. There were this intense crackling and popping sound that wasn't too different than whenever I would shoot lightning from behind as I hit the ground. I turned back to see a laser beam about as big as a bus hit where I once was standing,S throwing up smoke and making aha huge crater. The hand was completely obliterated from the blast, leaving a bloody stump. Bob screamed as he clutched his hand. "RUN BOY!!!" He shouted. I tried to run back into the portal but it just wouldn't stop teleporting away. Eventually, I abandoned the idea and ran across the road and onto the sandy ground. I heard a flapping noise from above. I turned in the direction of the noise and saw something quite strange. I saw a shadowy figure with oily black wings and bulbous glowing red eyes. Staring at me. It grinned showing its serrated teeth. I shuddered violently. Suddenly the figure swooped down at me with unholy speed, letting out a loud screech as it did so. I barely had time to jump out of the way, and the creature crashed into the ground, sending sand everywhere. I stumbled back as sand flew into the back of my eyelids. I scrambled to get the sand out of my eyes. And finally, I got the sand out of my eyes, just in time to see the eyes of the figure flash briefly in the air before it released a laser beam point blank at me. Luckily I had my light speed reaction speed and I was able to jump over the speeding laser beam as it passed by me, grazing me on my leg. Even though it was a graze I was hit with an immense wave of pain, both sending me flying in a perfect spiral and causing my blood to fly into the air around me. I face planted into the dirty street, hard. I slowly got to my feet just in time to get my picked up by my right arm about 6 feet Into the air by the same feminine pitch white hand from earlier. The hand then began furiously flailing me around in midair before hurling me to the ground. As luck should have it, I was right next to the portal and for once it wasn't teleporting away. I guessed the strange being that was distorting my dream was distracted briefly when it attacked me.Suddenly the hand flew down at me but I quickly grabbed it. It was at this point. I realized there was a mouth on the palm of the hand, blood began to seep from it, completely freaking me out. "Just let me into your mind already!" The hand shouted, squirming and thrashing trying to release itself from my grasp. Suddenly I heard the intense crackling and popping of the shadowy figure charging up its laser. I turned to see said shadowy figure blast a laser beam directly at me. Screaming, I raised out the hand in front of my face, hoping to block the blast. Strangely enough at the last second, the laser diverted off to the left and vanished in the distance. I was confused. It was almost as if the shadowy figure and the hand or what was behind it were working together. The brief moment of confusion seeing the bullet change path, caused me to let got of the hand. The instant I did, the hand grabbed me by the neck and threw me at the a shadowy figure, who's eyes suddenly bulged as if it as remembering something, and it quickly grabbed me by the feet and threw me like a football into the portal. slapped me across the face, knocking me into the portal. The hand quickly tried to follow me into the portal, but it was repelled. "Luke come here!" the hand screamed over and over again as I fell down the portal. it's voice slowly growing more and more distorted until it was completely incomprehensible and finally was silenced as I opened my eyes and was back in my bed. There was a wet feeling down in my legs.I hesitantly pulled back the cover, expecting to see piss. What I saw instead was far worse than piss. What I saw was freshly conceived blood, dripping from my foot.
