Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Ron glanced back and shifted his body.

The attacker missed.

At that moment, Ron could see clearly that the weapon in the opponent's hand was not a knife but a pair of scissors.

These scissors were a bit special.

They were infused with the aura of Nen.

"Focus!"

However, Ron did not sense any Nen from the attacker.

This proved that the attacker was not a Nen user but had accidentally acquired these scissors imbued with Nen.

After the surprise attack failed, the opponent didn't seem disappointed.

Instead, they straightened up and looked at Ron.

"You little guy, your strength is indeed impressive."

"I saw your battle in the Sky Arena."

"The speed that ordinary people can't catch with the naked eye."

"The power to knock down that bloated flying pig."

"However, from my recent tests, I can tell that you are still hiding your true strength."

"Your real power is above the 100th floor of the Sky Arena."

"But..."

The opponent grinned widely.

"I'm not like the people you faced before."

"I am the Slit-Mouthed Demon!"

A beam of moonlight illuminated the area, allowing Ron to see the attacker's face—one of extreme and exaggerated expressions. But what was even more attention-grabbing was the person's mouth.

There were wounds on either side of their mouth.

The scars stretched all the way to the base of their ears.

Even without any expression, it looked like they were grinning.

But it wasn't a smile.

It conveyed an extremely terrifying vibe.

"I haven't heard of you."

Ron looked at the attacker, involuntarily reminded of a character from a movie in his past life.

However, in this world, in this city, Ron truly hadn't heard of the Slit-Mouthed Demon.

The Slit-Mouthed Demon's expression froze in shock.

"You haven't heard of me?"

"Kid, are you looking down on me?"

"I'm a notorious and brutal killer who has consecutively murdered twenty-six young women in this city!" (T/n Jack the ripper wanna be)

"I've watched them fall before my eyes, their expressions filled with terror, wetting themselves."

"That feeling was truly amazing."

"It was simply a delight!"

"Who in this entire city isn't overshadowed by my fear?"

"But they all deserve it! Who asked them to look down on me?"

"As a man, why should I be rejected by them?"

"Why should they mock me, ridicule me…"

"They deserve to die!"

Ron had no interest in listening to the Slit-Mouthed Demon go on.

He didn't care about that stuff and had no interest in it.

What the Slit-Mouthed Demon experienced had nothing to do with Ron.

Ron only cared about one question.

"Wait a moment. I am not a woman, and I have had no interactions with you. I just arrived in this city."

"Why have you targeted me?"

"Who sent you?"

The Slit-Mouthed Demon was interrupted by Ron and felt quite displeased, glaring at him with a hostile expression.

"Kid, you've successfully provoked me."

"However, since you're about to die by my hands, I don't mind telling you the truth."

"I do the same with others."

"I'm a very merciful person."

The Slit-Mouthed Demon regained their composure.

"The task to kill you was taken from the assassin website. As long as I kill you, I can earn one million Jenny as a reward, which is why I came."

"Who is the client?"

"Who knows? All commissions are anonymous. As long as I kill you and collect the bounty, I won't care about anything else."

"Alright, kid, start resisting."

"I'm giving you this chance."

"But you won't have any hope."

"Everyone I target is bound to die at my hands!"

Ron looked at the Slit-Mouthed Demon with indifference.

"Is that so?"

Not far away, on top of a tall building, Zeno looked down and shook his head.

"Such a lack of professionalism."

"How can someone like this register as an assassin? What were they thinking?"

"Perverted killers are still unreliable."

"They completely fail to meet the requirements of the trial."

"It seems I need to raise the commission amount again."

"Of course!"

The Slit-Mouthed Demon lunged fiercely at Ron.

Ron did not dodge.

Just as the Slit-Mouthed Demon was about to reach him, Ron shook his head.

"You can't even see what's next to me, yet you think you can kill me?"

As Ron spoke, he recalled a scene from the original storyline.

After the journey at the Zoldyck Estate ended, Kurapika did not go to the Sky Arena but left alone.

Kurapika wanted to investigate the Phantom Troupe's whereabouts and take on related missions.

However, when Kurapika arrived at the designated location, because he couldn't use Nen, he was unable to see the aura that the staff was emitting and was thus rejected.

That scene was remarkably similar to the one Ron was facing now.

Ron corresponded to that staff member.

The Slit-Mouthed Demon was like Kurapika at that time.

However, the Slit-Mouthed Demon was not as lucky as Kurapika.

Suddenly, Killer Queen's form materialized, blocking Ron's path.

The Slit-Mouthed Demon collided with Killer Queen.

The impact stunned the Slit-Mouthed Demon.

Yet, the Slit-Mouthed Demon clearly saw that there was still a distance between himself and Ron.

But he was blocked.

What was happening?

Killer Queen placed her hand on the Slit-Mouthed Demon's head.

"First Bomb!"

In the next moment, the Slit-Mouthed Demon's entire head exploded.

Ron picked up the Slit-Mouthed Demon's fallen scissors from the ground and walked out of the alley.

With a thought, Killer Queen vanished.

The Slit-Mouthed Demon's corpse lay on the ground.

Soon after, Ron arrived at the hotel he had booked in advance, collected his room key, took the elevator upstairs, and after entering his room, he took a shower and changed into clean clothes before moving to the edge of the window.

He held the scissors in his hand.

"That Slit-Mouthed Demon was actually quite weak."

"The ability to kill so many people relied on these scissors, not on the Slit-Mouthed Demon himself."

After learning Nen, Ron obtained a lot of information about Nen from the Zoldyck Estate.

In this world, aside from Nen users, Nen tools also have a significant presence.

Some Nen tools that are enveloped in powerful Nen can even be stronger than Nen users themselves.

Nen tools can be divided into two categories.

One is ordinary Nen tools.

The other is those imbued with curse Nen.

Ron remembered that in a certain movie, Nen and curses were separated.

But in reality, Nen and curses are essentially the same thing.

Curses are also a form of Nen.

Compared to normal Nen, curses tend to be more negative, and furthermore, Nen tools containing curses may have a possibility of developing a form of consciousness.

The scissors in Ron's hand were just such a tool.

"So, the Slit-Mouthed Demon turning into that form is actually related to these scissors."

"It influenced his thoughts."

"But to affect me, that's still far from enough."

Ron handed the scissors to Killer Queen.

If it couldn't affect Ron, it would be even less capable of affecting Killer Queen.

Among Nen tools, these scissors weren't particularly strong, but they weren't weak either.

Killer Queen could use these scissors to enhance her offensive capabilities.

Especially in terms of confusing the opponent.
