Seven got a interest in cooking. She is actually pretty damn good and became damn good pretty damn fast.
The food she make is also pretty damn perfect...and I dare you to ask for more salt.
She was preparing a meal for the senior crew when Voyager was pulled into The Void. A bubble of space sitting in subspace, 9 lightyears across. It got nothing in it. Even the normal interstellar gasses are rare in there. No stars, no planets, no asteroids.
Just ships that's been trapped when funnels randomly open in space and suck them in.
There is only one way to get more resources to feed your crew and power your systems...take it from new arrivals.
Voyager was under attack as soon as we arrived...and this place is more savage than I remembered from the show. Likely a rating thing.
While Voyagers hullplating and alien power systems caused them to fail to get more than some antimatter from the unconverted shuttles, we where able to detect what they tried to beam out before we where able to remodulate the shields to compensate. They not only tried to steal food, fuel and equipment...they tried to steal crew.
Soon after we ran into General Valen and he explained where we are and what had happened. Some arrivals have gone further than just stealing resources. They have gone mad from the constant dog eat dog and fight over resources after spending years here and descended into a reaver like lifestyle.
If they can they loot everything on a ship and eat the crew.
This entire area of space got some kind of energy dampening field in it. While the gravimetric power generation are more efficient than AM, they dont ramp up as easily. We are stuck at a max of 70% power.
The rest worked similar to OT. We failed to escape through a forming funnel on the first try. The Captain then went onto Plan B. Gather technology and allies and protect incoming ships so they join until we know how to escape.
To save power we shut down things we don't need, like interior lighting and holodecks.
It took almost a week but in the end we managed to escape together with a group of seven other ships.
I stand in the messhall, looking out over the stars as I hear someone behind me "Captain." and she give me a nod before continuing to the replicator to collect a cup of coffee.
"Mr Hiver. Couldn't sleep?" she ask while sitting down in a nearby chair as I nod
"Yeah. Didn't want to disrupt Sevens regeneration so I came here instead."
She watch me for a moment before frowning "You got some kind of idea again, don't you?" and I snort before nodding
"I do. That Void and these funnels. I cant help but wonder if you can create one of those funnels into subspace using artificial gravimetrics and siphon power from there. The 'energy state' in subspace is higher than in this layer of space."
Janeway nod "Federation scientists have had the same thought in the past after we discovered a particle fountain for the first time. They never got it past the theoretical state."
Mmming I nod "I know, I checked the database. But they didn't have our readings of the natural funnels, nor did they have our new gravimetric technology." before I sigh and shake my head "Still, to even get to the testing phase will take many years even if I manage to figure it out. I'll run the idea past Seven tomorrow."
The Captain smile and sip her coffee "Let me know what you two come up with...and no throwing my ship into subspace if you please."
I give her a grin and a nod "Deal." before starting to head out "Good Night, Captain."
"Good Night."
AN// No update last night. Not because I'm giving up on the story, but because i was completely /Meh about writing anything at all.
