Chapter 2 - Chapter 2:The chosen

Ash blankets the battlefield, bodies piled one over the other, motionless, as if the earth itself swallowed their souls. The air is still, heavy with death. Among the thousands of lifeless soldiers, a faint tremor begins, and then... movement.

A man stirs beneath a thick layer of ash. He gasps for air, his chest rising and falling violently, struggling to breathe. As he sits up, he looks down at his hands in horror—his skin is gone, leaving only his skeleton visible. "What... what is this?" he whispers, trembling. Then, before his eyes, his flesh begins to regenerate. Slowly, his skin, muscles, and bones knit back together, leaving him whole again, though the shock still lingers in his eyes.

Nearby, another body glows bright, and a scream pierces the air. "Help me! I'm on fire!" Flames engulf the man, his skin alight, yet not burning away. He flails, trying to put out the fire, but the flames cling to him. Then he realizes—they aren't consuming him. He is fire. He stumbles around in terror, his body a living blaze, unable to understand what is happening to him.

All around, bodies begin to stir, and the meteorite in the distance starts to glow faintly. The chosen ones rise from death, about fifty in total. Some begin to hover above the ground, their newfound powers of flight lifting them effortlessly. Others awaken with strange abilities—one man's skin hardens into stone, while another's eyes glow with light, allowing him to see far into the distance.

Confusion and fear ripple through the group. A woman cradles the body of her brother, crying out, "Why didn't he wake up?!" Others stand in stunned silence, trying to make sense of the devastation around them.

One of the awakened speaks, his voice hoarse from disuse. "I... I don't understand. Where did the meteorite come from? Why did we wake up from the dead? What caused this? It... it was a devastating fall of the warriors. But why us?"

The question lingers in the air, unanswered. For now, the only truth they have is the power they hold, but no knowledge of how or why they were chosen.
