Chapter 8 - Thoughtful arrangements

Raquel stepped into the living room and spotted Alec sitted by the fire place with a wine glass placed between his elegant fingers as he gently twirled it.

Her dark brown hair was neatly combed and styled in a low bun with a few long strands falling on her face.

She put on a comfortable knee length gown she picked from the closet after much deliberation on which particular cloth to wear because there were just too many clothes, consisting of both undies and almost everything a woman needed as clothes for a living.

This made her wonder if he was married or had his girlfriend over previously, and this thought made her feel a sting in her heart, why? She couldn't tell.

His house gives a warm feeling where one could spend time cuddling with their sweetheart while reading their favorite book.

Sensing her presence in the room Alec stood up and moved to the dinning. Raquel noticed that he had changed into more comfy clothes and his hair was a little damp like he had just showered.

The table looks cozily set up, bathed in a soft natural light like the supposed lunch was a romantic date.

A crisp white linen tablecloth was spread on the table with three delicate vases which holds bouquets of fresh roses in shades of pale pink, wafting their subtle fragrance through the air and inviting intimacy.

The candles placed at the center and edges of the table emitted a warm glow on the surrounding as their gentle flames burned sofly.

An elegant silver fork and knife lie beside each plate and a white napkin folded with precision, was placed on it.

It gave a simple warm ambiance for a relaxed lunch date.

Raquel had unknowingly licked her lips as Alec opened a plate a mouth watering smell evaded her nostrils, when was the last time she ate such good food? And what was all the set up for?

"Are you going to sit or waste more time standing?" His deep voice had jolted her out of her reverie and she took a sit opposite him

"Very thoughtful arrangements, are my getting proposed to?" Raquel asked with a smile and Alec shifted his gaze to her, he stared at her and couldn't help but notice her natural charm, even when looking so plain, her beauty radiates so effortlessly.

Her captivating brown eyes stared at him in excited expectation of his next words as she clamped her lower lip between her teeth.

A low chuckle rumble from him as he asked her "and if that was the case, what would be your reply then?"

"An unregreteble 'yes', would be my reply"

"Why? Are you already in love with me Fair?" A smirk tugged on his lips and a glint Raquel couldn't decipher lingered in his eyes for a moment as he peered at her through his thick lashes.

"Well, I'm not, but it shouldn't be that hard to love you right?" Raquel reasoned

"How about you find out yourself?"

"If you let me, I will and if that is going to make you keep me by your side then it's worth it, I have nothing else to offer you now"

"So, it's about what it's worth and what it's not?" His tone carried a hinge of disappointment that disappeared almost immediately.

"I don't know... maybe" Raquel was unsure, she is just willing to get married to him, if that means he would be able to help her and protect her for the meantime until she can boldly confront her uncle.

"How old are you?" Alec suddenly asked

"Nineteen"

Hearing her answer he took a deep breath and patted her head "Raquel.." he called her by her name for the first time.

"You are young, try to focus more on reality and stop day dreaming about stuffs you know nothing about"

"What?" Raquel was flabbergasted, wasn't he considering it just now?

"Now let's eat" he said dismissively
