Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Case Becomes Clear: The Sponsored Streamer!

Excited and forgetting to knock, Wang Hu rushed into the conference room with the victim's phone. The issues of it being waterlogged and locked were no trouble for the forensic technology team at all!

In fact, to solve all sorts of strange cases, the current forensic technology team had advanced well beyond just monitoring CCTV. They had expanded their skills to include computer repairs, mobile phone repairs, video recovery, and various other technical capabilities.

As Wang Hu entered, Xu Changsheng pointed to the external screen on the table and curiously said, "Come on, Tiger. Project the phone onto the screen and tell us about the victim."

Wang Hu stepped forward, trying to project the phone while providing the latest information on the case. "The victim's name is Han Mengyao. She's 25 years old and came to Magic City from the Sichuan-Chongqing area to work."

"But her work in Magic City isn't traditional employment; she's engaged in online streaming, a new form of labor. Relying on her looks and figure, even though she doesn't have any special talents and only chats with her audience, Han Mengyao has accumulated quite a fan base, with over 100,000 followers on her streaming platform."

"After browsing through her recent WeChat messages, I've identified two potential suspects."

Wang Hu paused as he set up the phone projection. He opened the WeChat interface, revealing a chat with a contact nicknamed "Sugar Daddy." On the other half of the screen, an ID photo appeared, showing a balding man with a chubby face, clearly older from just his ID photo.

"The first suspect is this man, noted as 'Sugar Daddy.' We just obtained his verified information through communication with Penguin Network Company."

"His name is He Lianshan, 45 years old, and he's the chairman of a cross-border trading company. He met Han Mengyao three months ago, and there was a financial relationship between them."

"In other words, Han Mengyao was his mistress. He's also the one who sent her the most gifts during her live streams."

"A few hours before the incident, He Lianshan had dinner with Han Mengyao at the Golden Zun Mingpin Hotel. The exact details of where they went afterward are unknown."

"Now, onto the second suspect."

The screen displayed another ID photo. Compared to He Lianshan, this person appeared much younger, but his prominent cheekbones and shadowy eyes made him seem somewhat unsettling.

"This suspect is He Yong, 27 years old, currently a warehouse worker at a logistics company. He has a history of fighting and was imprisoned five years ago."

"His relationship with Han Mengyao has been confirmed as that of a former couple. They likely broke up about two and a half months ago, which was around the time Han Mengyao met He Lianshan."

"Although Han Mengyao has blocked He Yong, we were able to recover some of their chat history, which clearly shows…"

"He Yong repeatedly tried to win her back, sending flowers, meals, and even offering her a loan to buy designer bags, but he was unsuccessful and ended up blocked on all channels."

"Three days ago, He Yong seemed to have discovered that Han Mengyao was being kept by He Lianshan and that they had maintained an improper relationship for some time."

"Instead of calling or attempting to reconcile, he simply sent Han Mengyao a text message."

"The message read: 'I know you've hooked up with a real big shot. Tomorrow at 8 PM, I'll drive over to see you one last time. After we clear things up, I won't bother you again.'"

"Based on this message, I personally believe that… He Yong has a high probability of committing a crime out of emotional revenge, even more so than He Lianshan."

"However, to prevent any unexpected situations, we've already locked onto the current locations of both suspects. He Lianshan is at his company, while He Yong is at an internet café."

As Wang Hu finished introducing the two suspects, Xu Changsheng turned to Su Ming, who was calm and seemingly unfazed, and remarked with genuine admiration, "Xiao Ming, you're really incredible."

"I'm genuinely curious… Where did you learn so many investigative techniques? How is it that what seems like a complicated case was all anticipated in your deductions?!"

"If we consider that everything before had some clues to follow, then being able to deduce that at least two male suspects might be involved based solely on a small piece of leather is truly astounding."

This wasn't empty flattery. Xu Changsheng was expressing heartfelt admiration, feeling somewhat overwhelmed.

Although he thought that given a few hours to sort through the case with his experience, he might arrive at similar conclusions, it was still hard to believe that Su Ming could do so after just a quick glance.

Of course, Xu Changsheng would never guess that during Su Ming's past simulations of hundreds of thousands of crimes, he had learned how many times a simple oversight—a piece of paper, a button, a cigarette butt—had led to successful police captures!

Having made numerous mistakes in the past allowed him to better recognize the errors and oversights of others.

"Chronic illness makes a doctor. "

In response to Xu Changsheng's praise, Su Ming smiled nonchalantly and then pointed to the image on the screen.

"Ge Sheng, I think we're getting close to the truth in this case. The murderer is basically confirmed to be He Yong, because someone with He Lianshan's wealth is unlikely to use such cheap synthetic leather."

"So now we just need to find out... if He Yong owns a low-priced car, whether there's a similar-sized defect in the front passenger seat, and his exact whereabouts from the night before last. I estimate we'll be able to obtain the necessary physical evidence and then confirm the identity of the perpetrator through interrogation."

"As for He Lianshan… although we can't really intervene in moral issues like extramarital affairs or keeping a mistress, we can summon him to our team under the guise of assisting with the investigation. That way, he'll face public disgrace and learn a hard lesson."

Xu Changsheng nodded in agreement, stood up, and patted Wang Hu on the shoulder. "Tiger, your report was well-organized, and you've considered various aspects. You're definitely more suited for the forensic technology division."

"Alright, let's not talk about anything else for now. Prepare to act—immediately apprehend the two suspects!"
