Summer's P.O.V.
"Relax, Luna…. You are now hyperventilating." I tried to calm our Luna, Ruby Thompson, down while looking at her helplessly. "How can I calm down, Summer? It has been three years that I saw him…. I… I …. I think I will faint due to happiness whe… when I see him." She replied to me in an excited and nervous tone.
I laughed and hugged her. I wasn't from a high rank family, but I share a strong with alpha family. They were more important to me than my real family. "I will make sure that you will stay calm at that time, Luna…. He is your son…. And I can understand your excitement and thrill." I comforted her while massaging her shoulders lightly.
She smiled nervously while looking towards the entry door of the pack house. "O come on, Luna…. We have so many things to finish." I encouraged her and then we both busied ourselves in the final touch of the welcome party of our future alpha, and beta. They went to the alpha's academy four years ago, and they are supposed to come back today.
I gave the menu of the feast tonight overall the last look and was about to give to the head chef when I got a mind-link from my mother. "Where are you, Summer? You know that tonight is a special night for your sister. Yet you are I don't know where instead of helping your sister get ready." She scolded me, and I groaned internally.
"Mom…. She is not 5 that she needs someone to take care of her needs personally. I am busy with our Luna here in the pack house." I replied to her sarcastically while rubbing my temple. My elder sister….. yeah… older by what….. three minutes??????
But she was the princess of the house, and I......
Well… I don't need to elaborate what my status is in my own house….. I guess??????
The pack house has so many people to finish the preparations. Tonight, William is going to announce her as his fated mate to everyone. It's her big night. So…. Leave everything there… and come back home as soon as possible." She instructed me in a bitter tone, and I felt like growling back at my own mother.
For goddess sake…. Pearl, my elder sister, was not the first she-wolf who will be acknowledged by her mate. Almost everyday…. We welcomed a new mated pair in our pack or in the other packs. "Okay… then… tell our Luna to send me home." I replied to her coldly and before she could scream at me again, I cut off the mind-link.
I closed my eyes and started reverse counting to calm myself down. This wasn't the first time my mother gave my sister her first priority because my sister was always her first priority.
Pearl and I were twin sisters. She was only three minutes older than me. The only advantage that she had over me was that she was more beautiful than me. We had similar faces but not exactly are same. I was always better than her in everything but my mother always manipulated things for her so that she could get the praise that I deserved. I endured this partiality all my life, and now I was fed up with this treatment that I got from my family.
"Summer." I blinked harder to push my tears back in my eyes when I heard our Luna calling me. "Yes, Luna?" I replied to her immediately and sniffed lightly before moving towards her. She looked at me with sympathy indicating that she heard my sniff.
"I… I am also excited to… to see my brother after so many years, Luna." I tried to make an excuse in a low tone, and this wasn't a complete lie. "I know, honey…. I am glad that we have you with us. You filled that empty place in my heart that only my own daughter could fill." She said to me in a loving tone.
Our Alpha Victor Thompson, and Luna Ruby Thompson were fated mates, and the best alpha couple in the whole area. Their son, our future alpha, Adam Thompson was always a brother figure to me. My father was a warrior…. Of course, not a high ranker…. Yet Adam and I were best friends for I didn't know how many years.
"It's pity that he hasn't found his mate yet. William is lucky that he found his mate earlier than Adam." Luna Ruby spoke further, trying to change the subject. "Are you sure that he is lucky?" I asked her while raising my brows mysteriously. We shared a look and we both burst into laughter.
I didn't know how and where Pearl met William two years ago when she was on a shopping spree in human world one day, and they informed everyone that they are fated mates. Since that day, Pearl was on cloud nine because she was going to be the beta female after finishing the mating ceremony with William coming full moon night.
"Luna…. The… they reached." Someone yelled in excitement and we looked at each other with excitement. The next second, she grabbed my hand and we both ran towards the exit. I could feel Luna Ruby's excitement, and to be honest, I was also excited to meet Adam for four years.
We almost ran to the training ground where we were holding this welcome party tonight. Almost the whole pack had gathered. The warriors and guards were doing their best to maintain order. "Victor." Luna Ruby exclaimed in excitement when we spotted Alpha Victor talking with our present beta, Hugh Anderson and his mate, William's parents.
He smiled while looking at us and slowly spread his arms in the air when Luna Ruby ran towards him. I smiled while shaking my head lightly and looked around to find my family. I sighed when I felt myself out of place as I was the only one in a plant top and blue faded jeans while almost all the she-wolves of my age, and all the non-mated she-wolves of our pack were all dolled up for tonight's party.
"Summer." I rolled my eyes internally when I heard my mother's stern voice. I slowly moved in her direction and frowned when I saw Pearl overly dolled up, walking in high heels next to my mother.
"You are really a disgrace on our family, Summer." My mother scolded me in a hushed tone after stopping in front of me. "Yeah… that I know." I replied to her in a flat tone and she glared hard at me.
"Look at you… what are you wearing? You are embarrassing our family. You should have changed…. At least for tonight." She grumbled again, but I didn't pay attention to her. "Pearl…. Come here baby." I was thinking how to get away from then when my father called my sister affectionately.
"Coming Dad." She yelled enthusiastically, faking shyness, that made me feel like puking. She always had this perfect daughter façade in front of the whole pack all our lives. Unlike her, I had no desire to show some girly tantrums, and that made me the outcast among them.
My mother grunted in disgust one more time before running behind Pearl. It wasn't like that it didn't hurt me…. Because their treatment hurt me badly, but now I was used to them. Intentionally or unintentionally... I was always a subject of criticism and disgust for them.
I lowered my eyes and took a few deep breaths. "You are fine, Summer….. we are fine." My wolf, Ariel, comforted me, making me smile faintly this time.
"They are coming." Someone suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, making all the unmated she-wolves screamed in excitement. I shrank my shoulders to save my ear-drums from their screaming.
"Let's go, honey." Luna Ruby approached me, and put her hand on my lower back. I gave her a curt nod and walked beside her. Alpha Victor with the beta family were walking on the other side with Pearl who was holding William's mother's hand.
We stopped at the entrance of the training ground and saw five SUVs approaching us. For an unknown reason, my heart started beating furiously. "What happened, Ariel?" I asked Ariel in a confused tone.
"I… I don't know… I… I am just feeling some uneasiness." She answered me in a troubled tone, making my knit my brows. Suddenly, I was hit by an intoxicating smell of Cedar and cinnamon, making me unable to breath.
My eyes widened in shock when Ariel whispered the word that I wanted to hear for more than three years….. mate....
I snapped my head towards the source of the scent, and I felt my whole world crushing at that very instant. "William." Pearl screamed at the top of her lungs in excitement when he was about to look towards me.
In front of my eyes….. she ran towards her like a love-sick puppy and threw herself in his spread arms. He immediately embraced her while looking at me blankly. I felt some explosion in my mind, and Ariel whimpered in pain before retreating in the deepest corner of my mind.
