Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Luna." He repeated, placing a gentle yet firm hand on her petite shoulder. His fingers flexed against her soft white blouse, urging her to back up a little. Luna obliged, pulling away reluctantly, licking the remaining drops of blood from her full lips. Derrick's eyes followed the entrancing motion, his own lips parting involuntarily, craving to taste what she just had. His gaze darkened with desire, pupils dilating to near obscurity as he stared at her.

"Thank you, Derrick." Luna whispered huskily her cheeks flushed crimson from the intimate exchange. She stepped back slightly, giving him space to recover from their encounter.

Derrick didn't move for several tense moments, his chest rising and falling heavily, as he tried to regain his composure. He reached up to this throat, tracing the puncture marks lightly with his gloved finger.

"Might want to take care of that…tent of yours's later, Derrick," Luna teased him a bit. "Now I'll hold my end of the deal and answer your questions." Derrick's cheeks flushed a deep red underneath his tan completion when luna called attention to his obvious arousal. His hand involuntarily clenched at his side, fighting the urge to correct himself. How could he allow a vampire, even one claiming to be harmless, affect him so? He mentally berated himself, though his frustration quickly dissipated as he locked gazes with her again. Her hazel eyes gleamed with amusement at his expense, making it impossible for him to stay annoyed for long.

Derrick cleared his throat awkwardly, straightening his posture as much as possible given his current predicament. "Apologies," He murmured gruffly, attempting to brush off the tension between them with practiced ease. "Your kind always seems to have a knack for bringing out…unexpected reactions."

He leaned back against the wall, the coldness of the bricks a stark contrast to the fire igniting inside him. Composure restored somewhat, he crossed his arms over his chest, eyeing lima expectantly. "Alright then, luna." Derrick said, his voice steady once more, the playful edge vanishing from his tone. "Let us begin. Tell me, how does a creature such as yourself manage to live amongst humans without succumbing to your instincts? And why choose this existence?"

"I manage to live among humans, because I've gained their trust. As for my instincts, most vampires don't know they can control it. I didn't choose this life, I was born into it, sadly." Derrick listened intently, surprise etching itself onto his ruggedly handsome features as luna divulged her secret. Control it?  He pondered, no vampire had ever told him such a thing was possible. It challenged everything he though he knew about the creatures he spent his life hunting. He studied her closely, searching for any sign of deceit, but her gaze remained sincere and open, holding his own.

Derrick pushed himself off the wall, closing the small gap between them again. "Show me." He demanded gruffly, his voice laced with barely concealed fascination. He extended his wrist towards her, the veins pulsing temptingly under his tanned skin. "Show me that you can stop yourself."

This is madness, Derrick. You're supposed to be the predator here! Not enthralled by your quarry. A voice of reason echoed in the back of his mind, but he ignored it easily, too intrigued by Luna's claims. He watched as her eyes zeroed in on his exposed flesh, a hunger flared briefly before receding like a wave. His heart pounded against his ribcage, his pulse quickening with each passing second.

If she could truly control herself like this…then perhaps there's more to these mythical beings than just bloodlust and death. He mused silently, the though both terrifying and exciting in equal measure. "I've answered your questions, now…you should be heading off somewhere to ease that…tent of yours."

Derrick chuckled lowly at Luna's blatant dismissal of his earlier command. Normally, such audacity would irritate him, but coming from her, it only served to fan the growing embers of desire he couldn't deny any longer.

"Luna," Derrick drawled out her name slowly, enjoying the way her eyes flickered up to meet his at the sound of it rolling off his tongue. He captured her small hand in his larger, calloused one, pulling it gently towards his still hardened form, pressing it lightly against him. I shouldn't be doing this. This is playing with fire. But something about luna drew him in, made him yearn for the burn. "It seems our little interaction has left us both…wanting." He spoke huskily, his breath tickling her earlobe, causing goosebumps to erupt along her slender neck.

Releasing her hand abruptly, Derrick took a step back, his expression morphing into one of controlled hunger. "Answer my final question, beautiful." He growled, his eyes darkened with desire, no longer hiding the effect she had on him. "Why are you unaffected by my presence? Most vampires I meet either cower in fear of become ravenous." he took note of neither emotion reflected in her expressive eyes, only curiosity and a hint of amusement.

Luna's boldness and unorthodox nature intrigued him, awakening something primal within himself that he had buried deep years ago, convincing himself it would only serve as weakness during hunts. Now, with her standing before him, so vulnerable yet fierce, he found himself craving more than just answers. He wanted to peel away her layers and uncover every secret she held.

Derrick's eyes trailed down to her lips, painted crimson from his own blood, and he felt an almost animalistic need to taste her lips clean, to mark her as his own. Shaking his head minutely, he forced his thoughts back to the present. He couldn't allow his growing fascination for her to cloud his judgment. He needed answers. And perhaps…something else. Something more carnal.

"Why I'm not affected by you? Because I think your cute looking" she smiled. Derrick froze at her words, genuine shock flooding his features before giving way to a deep, rich laughter that echoed throughout the abandoned alleyway. He hadn't expected such honestly from a being he had been conditioned to view as a monster, and certainly not in such a playful manner. His chiseled abs contracted as he laughed, causing the muscles underneath his black t-shit to flex temptingly. "Cute?" he repeated incredulously, amusement dancing in his now softened gaze. The word sounded foreign coming from such dangerous lips, yet strangely endearing coming from Luna's.

How can she see me that way? He mused internally, trying to reconcile the deadly hunter he knew himself to be with the image she painted of him. Perhaps it's because i am just a man to her right now, not the monster she expected. Derrick found himself oddly touched by her candidness. It humanized him in a way that hadn't occurred in centuries, making him forget, if only a fleeting moment, the divide between predator and prey.

As laughter subsided, Derrick's gaze lingered on the blush that bloomed across Luna's cheeks. The sight of it made his chest tighten, an unfamiliar feeling of fondness stirring within him. He took a step close to her, his movements fluid like the shadows that danced around them. "Cute?" He repeated softly, this time teasingly. His large hand reached up, tracing the outline of her flushed cheekbone, trailing down to cup her delicate jawline. He tilted her face upwards, forcing their eyes to meet.

"And here i though I was terrifying," derrick husked out, his tone full of mick hurt, his thumb grazing her bottom lip, eliciting a small gasp from luna. His eyes dropped to her lips, painted such an enticing shade of red by his own blood, and all rational though evaporated in an instant.

She's unlike any woman I've met…human or otherwise. Derrick acknowledged, surrendering to the pull between them. He leaned in, capturing her mouth in a slow burning kiss. Catching luna off guard momentarily, when derrick pulled away reluctantly. She ushered "You think your terrifying, because that's how everyone has treated you. To me, your cute…rather handsome at that."

Derrick paused millimeters away from Luna's tempting lips, surprise etched clearly on his handsome face. No one had called him 'cute' in…well, he couldn't even remember the last time. Usually, it was 'merciless', 'cold-blooded', or worse. Hearing the endearing term from this petite vampire, who should be trembling at his very presence, sent an unfamiliar warmth spreading through him, melting the ice encasing his heart.

Had decades of hunting blinded me to the possibility of finding something like this? Derrick wondered fleetingly before discarding the though as quickly as it came. Now wasn't the time for self-reflection; there was a more pressing matter at hand- or rather, lips inches away from his that he ached to claim.

"Hmm, handsome?" he repeated her words back to her, a teasing glint returning to his eyes, a dimple appearing in his cheek as a charming smile formed. "Is that so, luna?"

Lowering his head, he brushed a featherlight kiss against her lips, savoring the taste of his blood on her lips mixed with a hint of cheery lip balm. He groaned softly at the contact, his body reacting stronger than he anticipated. No! Control yourself, derrick. Despite his inner warning, derrick found himself unable to pull away completely. Instead, he rested his forehead against hers, their breath mingling in the cold night air. "You are quite different than i expected, little vampire," Derrick whispered huskily, his thumb tracing lazy circles along her jawline, enjoying the feel of her smooth skin against his calloused digits.

He leaned back in, capturing her bottom lip between his teeth lightly before releasing it with a gentle nip, watching as her pupils dilated with desire. He couldn't remember the last time he had been so captivated by someone so unlike himself. His resolve crumbled piece by piece as Luna's unique allure drew him deeper into her web, and he found himself wondering how far he'd be willing to go.

"Now, shall we help you down there?" Luna asked. The bold suggestion caught derrick off guard, a surprised chuckle rumbling in his chest before turning into a deep growl of approval. He never would've guessed luna capable of such forwardness, further intriguing him about the complex layers hidden beneath her timid exterior. His eyes darkened further, pupil dilating in desire as her words ignited a blaze inside him that he knew wouldn't be easily extinguished.

What is happening to me? Derrick's thoughts swirled in confusion as he struggled to rein in his primal urges. His entire existence revolved around hunting and killing her kind, yet here he stood, entertaining the idea of sharing such an intimate act with her. But the rational part of him seemed to have taken a backseat, consumed by the intoxicating mixture of her scent, the taste of his blood still lingering on her lips, and the knowledge that she wanted him as badly as he craved her.

"You're playing with fire, luna," derrick warned huskily, his voice laced with a heady mixture of arousal and caution, his hand sliding down from her chin to trace a seductive path down her neck, eliciting a delicate shiver from her petite frame. "Once I start," he paused, eyes flashing dangerously, "I don't know if even I can stop myself." it wasn't a threat, merely a truth spoken between two predators who understood the fine line between desire and devouring.

He took another step closer, towering over her small form, feeling the coldness of her body against his like a beacon calling out to his own pent-up needs. His free hand snaked around her waist, pulling her flush against him, making no attempt to hide his obvious arousal. He needed luna to understand what she was offering herself too fully. Derrick lowered his head once more, capturing her lips in a kiss that was anything but gentle. His tongue teased hers, tangling in an ancient dance of dominance and submission that apple volumes more than words ever could.
