Chapter 8 - Getting used to The New Life

Amadeus stared at the panel, his mind swirling with questions. Although Dante had read countless stories about people using systems in his previous life, he had never encountered anything quite like this.

[Profile Menu]

Level 0 - Need 100 Devotion to next level

User Name: Amadeus

Heir of: Omega, The God of The End

God Rank: 0

Followers: 0

Power Level: Human

User Age: Error

"Why does it say error under my age?" asked Amadeus.

"Maybe it's too high for the system to calculate. But how old do you think you are?" the Crown responded.

"I have some memories that are too old and unclear, but what I know clearly is around 10,000 years," replied Amadeus.

"10,000 years? Well, that explains why you talk like an old man," the Crown said, surprised. "Anyway, forget about my age. Let's see what else is on this menu," Amadeus said.

"So XP is replaced by Devotion," noted Amadeus.

"Yes, Devotion can be generated by followers over time. The more followers you have, the faster you will level up," explained the Crown.

"And power level—does it mean I am as strong as a human?" asked Amadeus.

"Close, but the power level refers to your limits in your stats menu. Now, your limit is 9999, which every human has, but you can increase the limit by increasing your power level," the Crown clarified.

"Finally, what is god rank?" asked Amadeus.

"Your god rank determines what you can access of Omega's skills. Every 50 levels, your god rank will increase, unlocking new godly skills that belong to Omega," the Crown explained.

With a heavy heart, Amadeus closed the system panel and looked at the sky. He took a deep breath and said, "Basically, I need to get followers to give me Devotion so I can become stronger. Then I have to kill every god in my way to reach Alpha. So in the end, I become the thing that I hate the most."

The Crown came close to Amadeus, trying to comfort him. "There is a good saying for this kind of situation: 'The only way to fight a monster is to become one.'"

Amadeus lifted his head and said, "You're right. I give myself a promise that no matter what, I will take my revenge."

Amadeus started doing warmups and stretching his body. "Now shall we see what this body can do?" He jumped into the air so high it looked like he was flying, maneuvering and leaping from place to place.

Suddenly, Amadeus's eyes locked onto a giant wild boar, its tusks shining menacingly in the sunlight. Without a moment's hesitation, he charged at the beast, his speed blurring his form into a streak.

The boar, sensing the imminent threat, let out a roar and pawed the ground aggressively. It lowered its head, preparing to charge, but Amadeus was already upon it. In one fluid motion, he leaped into the air, bringing his leg down in a powerful arc.

With a resounding BOOM, his foot connected with the boar's skull, the force of the impact echoing like a thunderclap. The sheer power of the kick was enough to snap the beast's head back and crush its skull instantly.

The giant wild boar crumpled to the ground, lifeless, the grass beneath it stained with blood. Amadeus landed gracefully beside the fallen creature, surveying his surroundings for any other threats.

"That was almost too easy," he remarked, brushing a speck of dust off his clothes. The adrenaline still coursed through his veins,

Amadeus cut and cooked it, but something felt off. He thought he would feel hungry after being reborn, but he didn't. Then he remembered the immortality skill; he didn't need to eat, sleep, or drink. He was sure he wasn't human anymore.

He ate anyway because he could still taste the food, and it was delicious. After a day of hunting and getting used to his new body, the Crown remarked, "Till when are you going to stay naked?"

Amadeus was reborn with no clothes, so he had been running around naked the whole time. "What's the problem? It's not like I'm cold or anyone is watching. If you have clothes, I won't say no," said Amadeus.

"Touche, the boar," the Crown suggested.

Amadeus did as told, and the boar skin disappeared. A window appeared.

[New Item]

Boar Skin: A crafting material.

"Now use the crafting menu and create clothes for yourself," said the Crown. A window appeared.

[Crafting Menu]

Boar Skin Clothes: Durable thanks to the boar's strong skin. Adds 5 defense with no special effects.

Do you want to craft this? (Yes) (No)

Amadeus chose yes and equipped the clothes, which looked like caveman attire but were better than staying naked.

"You see, Amadeus, through the crafting menu, you can upgrade and craft items. There is a success rate that will increase the more experience you have in crafting stuff, like learning to be a blacksmith," the Crown explained.

"So there is a lot I still don't know about this system," said Amadeus.

Amadeus lay on the ground, looking at the stars and eventually fell asleep. Not needing to do something does not mean he can't do it.

That night, Amadeus dreamed of the day his family was sacrificed and other painful memories from his past lives. He woke up sweating and angry but found solace in the pain and nightmares because they would help him remember his revenge.

Amadeus spent the next three days scouting the area, but all he found were dead trees and destroyed villages. He hadn't found a single living creature apart from monsters like goblins that filled the area, but they posed no challenge.

On the fourth day, Amadeus stumbled upon a group of eight orcs while scouting the area. Seeing an opportunity to test his newfound power, a predatory grin spread across his face. Without hesitation, he leaped into the fray, landing directly on the nearest orc and smashing its head into the ground with bone-crushing force.

The remaining orcs, initially caught off guard, quickly rallied, their war cries filling the air. Amadeus dashed forward with inhuman speed, his fists a blur. He delivered a series of devastating punches, each strike shattering an orc's skull. The sheer speed and power of his attacks left the orcs no time to react. Within moments, three more orcs lay dead at his feet.

Three of the orcs, more prepared than the others, used their weapons and charged at him.

Amadeus dodged their swings with ease, his movements a fluid dance of precision and agility. He weaved between the orcs, striking with lethal efficiency. Each hit was a fatal blow, and within seconds, the three orcs fell to the ground, lifeless.

The final orc, realizing the hopelessness of its situation, turned to flee. But Amadeus was faster. In the blink of an eye, he was on the orc's shoulder. With a savage twist, he ripped the orc's head clean off its shoulders, blood spraying in a crimson arc.

"Is that all? My body didn't even warm up," Amadeus said, tossing the orc's head to the ground. He stood amidst the carnage, unfazed, his eyes scanning the horizon for the next challenge.

[New Item]

Orcs Armor: Crafted and used by the orcs. It's a good armor that can withstand damage, adds 10 defense with no special effect.

Orcs Weapons: Low-quality weapons, including 4 swords, 2 hammers, and 2 axes. They can easily be destroyed if enough force is applied. Adds 10 strength when used with no special effects.

Amadeus equipped the orc armor and kept the weapons for when his fists weren't enough anymore.

On the seventh day, standing on a cliffside, Amadeus was talking to the Crown. "I've been looking for life for the past few days, but I can't find anything. Are you sure anyone is alive in this realm?" asked Amadeus.

"Of course, there will be life. You just have to look harder," the Crown reassured him.

With his improved hearing and eyesight, Amadeus finally spotted a group of people. He moved quickly to their location and hid, observing the situation.

The group consisted of about 20 slaves chained together, guarded by six armed soldiers. Suddenly, one of the slaves fell dead from exhaustion and hunger. After kicking him multiple times, the guards cut his chain and left him to be food for the monsters.

The Crown descended and said, "Now is our chance to save these people and let them worship you as their savior." Amadeus ignored the Crown.

After they moved far enough away, Amadeus came down with an idea. He touched the slave's body, and the clothes vanished. A window appeared.

[New Item]

Slave Clothes: Worn clothes with chains around the neck, legs, and arms.

Note: It offers no increase to stats with no special effects.

Do you want to equip this? (Yes) (No)

Amadeus chose yes. The clothes started forming around him, and now he looked like a slave. To perfect the disguise, he took dirt from the ground and rubbed it on his body, then punched the ground, creating a hole. He placed the slave's body in it and covered it with dirt.

Amadeus did this because he was once a slave who died for the same reason. Then he started sprinting, following the group.

While following them, he had a thought. "I've been thinking about this for a bit, but do people see you?" asked Amadeus.

"No, apart from your followers, only people you choose can see me," said the Crown.

"Good, then I have nothing to worry about," Amadeus replied.

On the way, he found a wild boar. He gave it a light kick to make it follow him, then let it loose on the group after jumping away and hiding behind a rock.

This created the perfect distraction for Amadeus to join the group of slaves. After the soldiers killed the boar, they continued their journey with Amadeus among them.

"What are you doing?" the Crown screamed in Amadeus's mind so no one else heard.

"I thought you were smart. Rather than saving 20 slaves, I will let them take me to where all the slaves are being held, and I will save them all," Amadeus answered the Crown in the same manner.

A guard approached Amadeus, who was playing his part very well, with dead eyes and a hunched back, using his past life experience. The guard noticed the broken chain but simply reconnected it, thinking it had broken on its own from old age.

After walking for two days, the group reached its destination—a place that seemed like a giant mine with a large hole in the ground. What Amadeus saw exceeded his expectations. There were hundreds of slaves working in the mine like ants. He thought to himself, "I think I just hit the jackpot."

"Move it, you'll have all the time to see the place later," said a guard as he pushed Amadeus forward. They gathered all the new slaves together, removed their chains, and a person who seemed like the leader of the place stood in front of them, explaining the rules.

"There are three rules in this place: first, you will work no matter your condition. Second, your performance throughout the day will decide if you get food at the end of it. Third, if you try to run, you will face a fate worse than death."

Amadeus gave the leader a thorough look. The man used a sword and heavy armor, and from his posture and hand movements, combined with the atmosphere around him, he seemed like a strong opponent and an experienced fighter.

Amadeus smirked and thought to himself, I can beat him. The Crown then interjected, "And how did you decide that? You don't have any skill that lets you scan people."

Amadeus replied confidently, "When you spend your life on the battlefield, you learn to feel how strong a person is so you won't get yourself killed by attacking a strong opponent."

The guards led the new slaves to where the tools were kept. "Each of you, take a tool and start working," they commanded. The slaves, who had been starving and walking for who knows how long before Amadeus joined them, began working.

Amadeus took one of the tools and started working, which was easy thanks to his high stats. The Crown, frustrated, asked, "Why are you working? You said you could defeat the leader and the other guards are not worth mentioning."

Amadeus smiled in his head and said while mining with an axe, "You told me to take time to cool my head, so I'm doing what you told me."

The Crown angrily screamed, "So this is your idea of a vacation? Working as a slave in a mine?"

That might be what Amadeus said to the Crown, but he had other plans for this place—plans that went far beyond taking a vacation.
